Komarov: I’m just going out and playing

- January 30th, 2013

Leo Komarov didn’t goad Jochen Hecht into taking a double minor on Tuesday night.
He swears on it.
Komarov is making his mark with the Maple Leafs as a physical agitator, but it’s not a role, or a reputation, the 26-year-old Komarov necessarily relishes.
“I don’t like it,” Komarov said. “It is not fun. Sometimes I get a lot of people talking about me getting under skin, but I don’t see why. I just try to give 100% in every moment. Maybe I hit one second too late and they don’t like that, but it is nothing I am going to change.”
Does Komarov say anything to tick off opponents?
“My English is not so good,” Komarov said with a smile. “Nothing special.”
Hecht of the Buffalo Sabres was assessed a roughing penalty and another for unsportsmanlike conduct near the end of the second period of the Leafs’ eventual 4-3 overtime win. Toronto did not score on the power plays, but Komarov’s influence was clear.
But Komarov tried to play it down.
“Nothing I try to do,” Komarov said. “Just the moment. He took a stupid penalty. I just went to the net.”
