Playoffs: Tweet it out Loud

- April 20th, 2013

OTTAWA – It wasn’t long after helping their team earn a first playoff berth in nine years that a couple of Maple Leaf players took to twitter to celebrate with their thousands of followers.

Long before the team boarded their charter to Tampa, where they will rest and practise in advance of Wednesday’s game against the Lightning, Joffrey Lupul and Carl Gunnarsson chimed in on the popular social media site.

“Thanks for sticking with us,” wrote Lupul, who scored the Leafs fourth goal, his 10th of the season. “Playoff hockey back at the ACC. Sounds pretty good to me.”

Defenceman Carl Gunnarsson, who was back in the Leafs lineup after missing three games with a lower-body injury, also weighed in.

“Been waiting for this and I know the fans have too,” Gunnarsson wrote. “Let’s go.”

With a playoff spot clinched, Toronto coach Randy Carlyle said the team will get Sunday off to golf or soak up the sun in Florida before players will return to practice on Monday. The two-game Florida trip wraps up with a game in Sunrise, Fla. against the Panthers on Thursday leading to the season finale against the Habs back at the ACC next Saturday.
