CALGARY – Dion Phaneuf put it best when he said his Maple Leafs must “turn things around fast.”
That’s an understatement.
When breaking down the Maple Leafs season-high four game losing streak, there are some alarming stats and facts.
- The Leafs have been outscored 16-5 in their past four.
- Even worse, they’ve been outscored 10-1 in their past two.
- They lost 5-1 to a Calgary Flames team on Tuesday that is so banged up, Blake Comeau and Tom Kostopoulos were their second-line wingers.
As they walked out of the Saddledome after the game, two players who watched the game from the press box expressed their desires to get back into the lineup on Wednesday. Both forward Colby Armstrong and defenceman Keith Aulie are hoping to lace up the blades against a young fast Edmonton Oilers team that will be looking for revenge after absorbing a 6-3 spanking at the hands of the Leafs back on Feb. 5 at the Air Canada Centre.
The Leafs have to do something to change their fortunes. As their captain noted, it’s time to turn the ship around in a big hurry.
