Fighting back against consensus media

We like to say that we’re on your side here at Sun News.

It’s not that I think the other media are against you or the country, because I don’t think that. But sometimes I do have to wonder if they live in another planet. Some of my media colleagues live in such rarified air that their brains aren’t functioning right.

The CBC’s screaming headline for their online story was that

Anti-oilpatch activist Wiebo Ludwig dies at 70

A man convicted of bombing gas wells, suspected in bombing several others and also suspected of shooting a teenage girl is first and foremost an “activist.” To the good folks at CBC.

Ludwig was suspected in the 1999 shooting of 16 year old Karman Willis, the young girl shot to death while joyriding on his farm. He suggested that her parents should have asked themselves why she was out so late.

Ludwig was also a Christian pastor who believed in withdrawing from society, that women should be subservient to men. These are normally things that make the CBC crowd uneasy but due to his environmental activism they give him a pass, they wipe away his other sins.

I’ll admit that there was much to admire about Ludwig including his self-sufficiency and his determination to fight for a cause he believed in. But when you turn to blowing things up and eco-terrorism, you have gone too far and your sins wash over whatever positive qualities you posses. CBC and much of the media have it backwards when it comes to Ludwig.

It’s much the same with my colleagues in the media all a flutter over Fidel Castro, yes that Fidel Castro, writing a rambling letter and posting it online – he mentions Canada, and Stephen Harper but he says such wonderful things about Pierre Trudeau.

People in Ottawa were gleeful and fascinated by this. Really?

The decrepit old leader of a murderous and oppressive failed socialist state mentions Canada and you all get excited. It’s that latent tendency, that youthful love of communism – you know it’s a great system just never implemented correctly so many will say.

Balderdash, it’s a horrible system that strips people of their freedom, their individuality, their unique place in the world.

But the worst piece I’ve seen lately to show how many of my colleagues live in another dimension, a different planet, I’m not really sure what is this story in the Globe and Mail.

The story details how Occuppy protesters and their allies are shocked, shocked I tell you, that ITAC, a division of CSIS, wrote up three reports on the Occupy movement.

“These are explicitly pacifist organizations that have never attacked any kind of civilian, so to group this within the national security anti-terrorism network is really problematic,” said Jeff Monaghan a sociologist at Queen’s University.

Explicitly pacifist organizations he says.

Interesting.

The first report was written before the first protests began in Canada on October 15, the report came out the week before. It detailed what security services, be they police or otherwise should expect.

Isn’t that what police should do?

I talked about the Occupy movement before it came to Canada, I had watched what was going on in the states.

This was originally called “Days of Rage” not Occupy Wall Street. Occupy Wall Street was what they intended to do but they called it Days of Rage. Here’s the poster:

 

The next report was written after a video was posted online claiming to be from the group anonymous and threatening to attack the city of Toronto’s websites and online services, remove them from the Internet they said.

Apparently the Globe and their friends at Occupy don’t think our security services should look into threats from groups that have struck important government institutions around the world.

The third report was on a threat to shut down the Port of Vancouver.

Along the West coast of North America the Occupy movement had shut down ports and damaged economic activity, they cost people jobs not just money for big bad business but jobs for real people with real families to feed.

There was also violence.

None of this is mentioned by the Globe piece, instead it is all about the shocking fact that our intelligence services are doing their jobs. I’m all for critiquing them when they don’t do their jobs or they do their jobs badly – like the case of the Toronto police busting spiceman and letting a thug go, but I’m not against them doing their job.

The Globe, or at least this writer is. So are all the people they quote because they didn’t ask a security expert.

So what gives? Why do this?

They don’t want Canada to have an intelligence service. They don’t want police or security officials to know what is going on.

Maybe that’s because the Occupy movement and those that support them aren’t the pacifists they’d have you believe but radicals that want to smash the system.

To the people living in the rarified air of too much of the media though, I doubt they view that as a bad thing.
