The Canadian Bar Association is one of those groups that people assume is above politics.
Hah!
The CBA, like many groups, is highly political and today they proved it once again by calling for MPs on the Access to Info Committee to back off in their quest to look into CBC’s refusal to abide by the law.
“The committee should cease its hearings on this matter until the courts have issued a final ruling,” said Fred Headon of Montreal, second vice-president of the association.
“Members of Parliament must respect this important legal principle. The committee would be well advised to await the outcome of the judicial proceedings before continuing its deliberations.”
Now what is interesting is that the Bar Association wanted the Harper government to repatriate Omar Khadr from Guantanamo before his trial was over and they supported the release of Taliban prisoner docs even though those were before a judicial process at the Military Police Complaints Commission.
In fact if we followed the flawed thinking of Mr. Headon and his colleagues at the CBA then there would never be any laws up for reconsideration that might also be before the courts.
Bill C-4 dealing with human smuggling is directly related to the MV Sun Sea and the 492 people that came aboard that ship. Some of those people are still before the immigration and refugee board others will be before the Federal Court. Shall we scrap that bill until there are no cases of a similar nature?
Bill C-19 seeks to scrap the long gun registry, some cases before the courts include material drawn from the gun registry. Shall the government wait until there are no cases involving the gun registry before moving forward?
The fact is that Parliament moves on legislation that is before the courts all the time. How can it reasonably be argued that MPs should be able to see documents about Taliban prisoner transfers or the Libyan mission while it is still happening but that they cannot see documents about CBC. And just for the record, the documents before the court have nothing to do with journalistic sources.
Here once again is a list of ATIP cases before the court in the battle between CBC and the federal information commissioner.

They outed themselves quiet some time ago with their radical leftist ideology, but like a lot of other groups they believe they are still in the closet and we are unaware. Their credibility is down the drain big time.
How is it that reporters go where news of sorts break whether it is in a grocery story, restaurant or whatever.. how is it that reporters find news to report and yet can’t seem to go to the one place CBC that is spending our money on things they refuse to tell or reveal.
Why don’t any of you reporters work for us instead for your own ego.
CBC was ordered to reveal to show the books our books and still we wait for a reporter to go to CBC to get answers.
CBA street cred – zero.
All organisations are political in nature as they are made up of people who are well political by nature. One percolates into the other. You’re how old Brian and just coming this realisation?
If you really think the CBC is failing to abide by the law, take ‘em to court. Take it to the Supreme Court.
Sun Media is always claiming “Here we grow again”. There ought to be enough of a movement to support a Supreme Court Challenge, to declare the CBC unconstitutional, with all that growing of anti CBC sentiment in the country.
How much can a Supreme Court Challenge cost to mount? A few million dollars. Why not solicit donations from the Sun Media fans.
I came across an even more obscene link for the CBA, I have a case before the Human Rights Commission and I had complained about my Charter sec.34 Disability Rights during the HRC process because my Employer’s legal team had access to me Employment file and extracted mainly the dirt about me and exploited my functioanl Limits for my Disabilty . I also came across a photo of Barbara Hall at a Function hosted by my Employer and this now explains why my case had dragged on for almost 2 years and how the HRC keeps siding with my Employer and Lawyers that have lied about me and had tried to fire me while on LTD for a workplace injury they caused and now deny happened.
If the Human Rights tribunal and Commission allows for the Charter Rights violation t othe Disabled during the Process by the respondants, then the whole Human Right Commission is a farce and charade to pick and choose who gets Rights and then allow Lawyers to Violate the same SEC.34 protection to the Disabled that the HRC gets money to pretend to enforce.
The SCOC should rule that the HRC’s violate the Charter Of Rights and abuse the Rights of the Disabled during the process.
