Debating Canada leaving the United Nations

- July 5th, 2012

I’ve been arguing for Canada to leave the United Nations for some time now, recently this call began appearing in my columns. It’s good to see that after years of being critical of the UN, this conversation is picking up.

On Thursday afternoon I joined CJAD afternoon host Aaron Rand and RMC professor Walter Dorn. I honestly don’t think Professor Dorn has read the documents surrounding Agenda 21 and other sustainable development documents out of the UN. You can find out more about that here and here.

What was shocking though were his suggestions for improving the UN which essentially calls for it to get more money and greater powers. That frightens me.

Now is the time to do it. The Great Money Grad is the only discussion at the UN, while people around the world get stompted on. Canada is a global leader in human rights achievements and in protecting the rights of others. Celebrate our heritage with a rejection of those countires where human rights are not respected and back it up with our world respected armed forces where needed. The UN for the past 40 years backs only dicators who stomp on innocent humans as they grad the cash from democratic countries. Stop the flow of cash from Canada where all humans celebrate this great land and democratic freedom.

So let us say there is a vicious man-eating tiger on the loose and according to the professor you offer it more people to eat in order to improve the situation. I seriously doubt that the supporters of the UN in Canada are all that aware of all the facts with the exception of the hard core pro global government crowd.

No one I know thinks it is beneficial for Canada to remain in the UN, but I do not know every single Canadian. I am convinced that it is beyond repair and find it a mystery why we remain in this hostile cesspool and even give it money.

I think Mr. Rand is either being completely disingenuous or he’s a useful idiot. Philosophically the UN is quintessentially Progressive. The UN doesn’t need to have the power to undermine sovereignty. All it needs is for like minded Progressive leaders to implement its Agenda in their own countries. And its happening right under Mr, Rand’s nose. Property rights have been all but destroyed in the Progressive Tyranny of Ontario under McGuinty’s Green Act.

Mr. Dorn believes that some kind of local improvement is flowing from a kind of shaming process taking place at the U.N. In the videotaped argument he spoke about the ambassador of Syria walking out from a discussion of the human rights record of that country. This is typical “feel good” / “hope for a miracle” left wing “thinking”. People should urgently pick up Denis Prager’s latest book “Still the Best Hope…” and/or Thomas Sowell’s “Knowledge and Decisions”. These books are critical for understanding the foundations of this kind of liberal “feel good” discourse. Nothing improved in Syria as a result of being shamed at the UN. Assad’s only real concern is to prevent an international intervention, and he had enough friends at the UN to ensure that. What UN rules have the redeaming qualities the good professor is talking about? The order in which representatives of various illegitimate and tyranical regimes speak? Or perhaps the mindless and lofty incantations of leftist dogmatic pet peeves based on fabricated crizes and aimed at stoping development and job creation in countries such as ours? What UN rules have or had a redeaming effect on Assad’s regime or North Korea? How do the UN “rules” prevent China from engaging in a ferocious currency war with the West? The dictators that ended up in front of the International Court where those abandoned by the club of bastards, and tend to be selected from those who do not hold anti-Western views. Coincidence? Much worse is tolerated in the U.N. Only a liberal can think that serving a round of duty in the UN Human Rights Committee improves the practices and culture of the country from where the ambasador (let’s say North Korea) is coming. The result is a profound contempt for misguided liberal naivete that will continue sponsoring the dog and pony show, allow this bizzare creature to siphon money from the West (including to countries such as China – who is incomparably richer than Canada), and use the Canadian and American soldiers as cannon fodder when some agreable to all need arises. Canadians should be truly blind not to realize that they have been grossly exploited (when was the last time you saw Chinese or Russian soldiers bearing the grunt of peace keeping missions?). More importantly, this so called craddle of international peace and development can no longer hide its contempt for Canada (not to mention the U.S.). The professor is right that the U.N. is backed by the West, but fails to see that it is shamelessly using it and could become the instrument of its demise. All the liberal crowd gloating over the Agenda 21, enviromental demagogy and tax the rich countries and individuals (China and Russia always exempt) don’t even hide their contempt for the Western civilization. Mr. Dorn believes that it is the “rules based” UN that prevents chaos in the world. He offers no evidence of that being the case. A 5th grader could tell you that it is the American…
