Such an excellent video, really interesting, this is the particular topic I have always wanted view/hear. And you, Brian and Hon. Jason Kenney covered it. Thank you.

I am thoroughly impressed with Minister Kenney’s performance. I am beginning to think that moving him from portfolio to portfolio may actually clean house. :-)

I’ll have to look up the proposed legislation to see if the deportation rule will also be applied to convention refugees (which I doubt).

Just as an idea – how about ofering foreign citizens the option of being deported immediately after serving one third of the sentence they are currently serving? We may have to go even lower in some cases given the statutory release rules used by Corrections – but the key point is to offer an actual incentive for saving time and money?

Anoter key issue that needs to be adressed is the circumvention of government policy by other government agencies. For the case in point, the Courts increasingly take into account “immigration consequences” as serious externalities in sentencing and the result is the bypassing of immigration policy by sentencing convicted foreigners extremely leniently. It would be helpful if the legislation would outlaw the consideration of immigration consequences in sentencing in criminal courts.
