Silk Purses

- June 26th, 2012

In the backroom sweatshops of federal politics, Sun Media’s resident lefty liberal, Warren Kinsella, is in a class of his own.

We’ll leave it there, but I will tell you this. He is a master of creating a silk purse from a sow’s ear.

Example? Justin Trudeau.

In his column last Sunday, Kinsella gave 10 reasons why Trudeau is a “winner,” and why the Liberal Party of Canada should choose such a vacuous entity to lead them out of the wilderness now that Bob Rae has realized he is no Moses.

It was quite the spin job.

Despite Kinsella’s best efforts, my opinion of Justin Trudeau remains this: He’s cute but he’s dumb, and falls far short of of having the political brilliance of his father, the most destructive prime minister of the 20th century.

Kinsella says Trudeau has “more charisma than the royal family and Lady Gaga combined.”

Yes, that’s what he said.

Kinsella lost me long before typing that ridiculous line, of course, but that’s how he conjures up the silk purse.

To me, columns such as this are little more than comic relief, but many readers take Kinsella seriously. Try not to be one of them.

  1. Jacques Lambert says:

Kinsella is a true Canadian since the objets of his comparisons are strangers to this country (Royal familly, Lady Gaga).

And at the same time fill define the Canadian identity : British and American.

Ukranians, Polish, Germans, Chinese are also Canadians as long as they have agreed to become Canadians : British subjects with the American way of life.

So, moose, mooses, meese, mosinee or elks ?

Trudeau or Chrétien were great – and duly elected – as long as they fought against Québec.

Harper has been elected without Québec votes. So now, what is Canada without the burden of Québec?

What is a Canadian of the ROC? What makes a Canadian Canadian?
