Toronto fashion week: Get runway looks, step by step

- March 21st, 2014

Maybelline makeup artist Grace Lee has been the go-to woman for the makeup looks at World MasterCard Fashion Week, from the heavy, crystal-coated black eye at VAWK to the cold-flushed cheeks at Joe Fresh and everyone in between.

As diverse as the Fashion Week collections have been, the trends on the runway have skewed toward naturally beautiful looks featuring nude lips, bronzed eyes and dewy, glowing skin. We sat in with Lee backstage last week to learn how to get those looks, including subtly exaggerated lashes, an edgy ombre lip, and that model-perfect glow (spoiler alert: put lip balm everywhere).

Toronto fashion week: This season’s gorgeously natural beauty look

- March 19th, 2014

To your average fashion lover, runway makeup is often seen as a wild, sculptural art form — one that stands completely apart from the mascara and concealer we slap haphazardly on our faces each morning. The runway’s where designers’ flights of fancy migrate onto models’ faces — we’re talking blue clown mouths, feather lash extensions and, horror of horrors, red eye makeup.

We tried it: Makeup looks for a Valentine’s Day date night (and girls’ night)

- February 13th, 2014

Rosalyn and I are expecting very different evenings on Valentine’s Day – girlfriend is engaged to sweetheart and I’m about to have my first love day as a singleton in many years. So we’ll need different looks.

We asked Melissa Ortins, makeup artist and national trainer for ACI Brands, to dream up a date night and girls’ night makeup look for us. Here’s out to get ‘em at home.
