He’s no Colonel Klink

- June 26th, 2012

First, let me apologize for the lack of postings on this blog of late. We’re going to pick up the pace again, starting now, and I may be speaking out of school slightly by leaking to you that Bruce and I are going to start our own, separate blogs soon, so stay tuned.
Secondly, a quick comment on Rick Nash. I know there are reports Ottawa is not on his list of teams to which he’d accept a trade. I was told again late last night by one source that Nash does not want to play in Ottawa. But I’m going to stick with the Nash-to-Ottawa possibilities because another source who has chatted with the Columbus Blue Jackets sniper says Nash WOULD play for the Senators. So I believe there’s still a chance, especially if he really does want out of Ohio, as it sounds like the most appealing package talked about to date could be provided by Bryan Murray.
So again, stay tuned.
Finally, a word on Justin Schultz, and why the Senators are anxious to sign the former Wisconsin Badger defenceman.
How good is he?
“The competition for Schultz will be every bit as intense as the competition for (Ryan) Suter and (Zach) Parise,” analyst Ray Ferraro said on TSN radio, referring to the two established NHLers expected to draw the most attention when free agent bidding wars begin first thing Sunday morning. “This kid has the potential to step in and play next year and to be a Top 4 guy next year.”
Schultz is flying to Toronto to meet with his agent today (Tuesday), and will start hearing the presentation, as well as start making a short list of teams he’d play for, on Wednesday.
Stay tuned.
