Greetings from Winnipeg

WINNIPEG _ Just landed. It is cold here. Just like it is cold in Ottawa but colder so I’m not complaining.
Good to be on the road and not standing on a sidewalk in New York.
Interesting decision to be made in the net. I do think Craig Anderson will start. I really do. There wasn’t a lot of drama on cutdown day because there weren’t many cuts to make.
So, who do you go with Anderson, Ben Bishop or Robin Lehner.
I think they owe Anderson the first start.
Lehner is the popular choice. I don’t think he gets the start.
I’m sure Anderson will be rusty. So will about 20 other goalies in the league. Here’s a look at the roster.
I will update after they skate tomorrow. Will try to spend more time here:

Ottawa

Milan Michalek-Jason Spezza-Jakob Silfverberg
Guillaume Latendresse-Kyle Turris-Daniel Alfredsson
Colin Greening-Zack Smith-Chris Neil
Peter Regin-Jim O’Brien-Erik Condra

Defence
Erik Karlsson-Marc Methot
Sergei Gonchar-Chris Phillips
Andre Benoit-Patrick Wiercioch

Excellent – I like that Greening / Smith / Neil are back together and I like the look of the 4th line too.

D looks scary…Gonchar and Philips together could be really ugly OR their veteran savy could help keep them from running around too much – Philips needs to be physical and stay close to home.

Had a very interesting flight from Minny to Chicago – had the pleasure of having Blair Mackasey beside me (familiar to most on here from his days with Hockey Canada I am sure but he is Director of Player Personnel for the Wild). He was very engaging and we had great conversation on plenty of hockey topics.

Crashing now but will post some if tomorrow.

Have fun Bruce, DOn and all the Sun Boys!

Going to be a fun season, hope the Senators players grow as a team win or lose.
And people, people (looking at you Ottawa fans) stop putting pressure on the kid Jakob. Comparing him to a close to 20-year very in Alfredsson isn’t fair, just let him grow.

Going to predict a close one, 3-2 Jets in OT (that place is a madhouse!)

  3. PaV says:

I personally think that Anderson gets the start. I don’t see why there is any question about it. Everyone is going to be flat coming out of the gate. I don’t care of you played overseas or not. If the player you are playing with is flat, you are going to be flat as well.

I am calling a 3-1 with for the SENS tmw.

Its going to be hard not to watch the CHI vs LA game on NBC……. that will be a fast paced game.

  4. Bruce Garrioch says:

I totally agree with you Pav. By the way gang, Pav owes me beers so if there is a road trip I’m not going on we’ll all hook up and he can pay me back. Bobby Goodman has to come.

  5. PaV says:

Bruce, I also owe Potts and Bobby beers as well. So first and second round is on me. Just name the time and place.

    Have fun in the ‘Peg!

I have to say, I am kinda excited about watching the game….

  6. Daniel Murphy says:

Since when did the Sens or any team go on a one game road trip carrying 3 goalies? Has this happened before? I don\t quite understand this overkill. Is it simply a team bonding thing which seems silly since pretty well everyone knows everyone quite well. Comments?

Sens will win 4-2. Anderson will be great and Spezza will bag a pair of goals.

  7. Bobby Goodman says:

Bruce, I would be proud to raise a glass with anyone of you fine men (Patton: circa 1978?).

Pav owes everyone at least one beer!

Hell…I will watch all the games!

The experts on Sportsnet all believe the Habs wont make it to the post season and I say they will (contingent on them signing PK of course). He will have a break out year.

All of them have far too much faith in Randy Carlyle (even he can’t make a silk purse out of a sow’s ear).

It will be fun mes amis (oh, it looks like Caligula and Mclroy wont make the cut in Dubai…damn shame.

  8. Bruce Garrioch says:

I didn’t know Pav owed the whole world. Ha.

Hello from the Dominican Republic. I am in a small town near Peurto Plata called Sosua, and I am hoping to catch the game at a sports bar. I think they should start Lehner, he is on fire right now and may steal a few games early.

  10. KevinF says:

You owe me too Pav, Kessel 30?

  11. Bobby Goodman says:

Mikey…are you having good weather???? Did you bring your sticks (do they play golf down there?). Are there any “Idle no more” drumbashing sit ins and hunger strikes that allow one to gain 30 lbs? Doesn’t Pav owe you a beer as well? I know I won one legitimately on the very same bet that secured Kevin a cold one.

It certainly would be fun to get together and put a face to a few names. I know I would recognize Kevin by the blue and white face painting and the Lord Burke-like tie draped over his shoulders ;-)

I know you would all notice Pav………just Sykh and you will find him….6′, 5″ of big! I wouldn’t want to wrassle him for a beer…that’s for sure! And he plays competitive rugby….YIKES!

  12. Mike8888 says:

    Bobby,
I’m back. The weather was great. I watched the first game from an outdoor sports bar. The beer was cold and the game and waitresses were good. I don’t golf though.

We all should get together for a beer sometime soon. I’m not sure Pav owes me one, but what difference does 1 beer make when your buying a round of 30?
