Oh hi

Anyone miss me?
Took a little time off. Tough summer. Losing my Dad. Happy to be back.
Now, hopefully there is hockey.
The two sides were at the table today. The NHL made a new offer.
The talk is it may be window dressing. Not a lot of changes. The two sides will be back at the table Wednesday afternoon.
Life is going on. Kyle Turris signed a five-year contract extension. The players are skating in Kanata daily. Some days there are a lot of players. Other days there aren’t many.
Captain Daniel Alfredsson is in town. He got back on the weekend. The word is he will resume skating next week. He wants to get ready for another season but like everybody else can’t predict what’s going to happen with the new CBA.
Alfredsson returned with defenceman Erik Karlsson. He hasn’t been out for the informal skate either. I would expect both of them will be around next week. Players are trying to prepare like the season will start normally but nobody is sure that is going to happen.
Like everybody else, we’re all just going to sit here and wait.
It’s nice to be back but this could be a long wait.
Junior hockey will played at Scotiabank Place this winter. Get back to you on the NHL later.

  1. In the famous words of John Sebastien of the Loving Spoonful, “Welcome Back”! When it does, I fully expect a trade to be made by the Sens with 3 goal tenders in their stable. This may prove to be a difficult decision identifying who would go.

I like Kyle Turris but it surely was a leap of faith for Murray to award him a 17m dollar, 5 year deal don’t you think? What do you think the team expects from him (certainly more than 29 points). He did go into a prolonged slump until Maclean finally united Kyle and God with Foligno. I love the kid but am not sure he deserves that kind of money until he validates what he can do. I would alos like to see him put on 10 pounds of muscle. Speaking of putting on muscle, it is my understanding that Karlie isn’t into it and we will see the very same slight Karlsson we saw last year. One could build a case for him changing nothing but there is nothing wrong with getting physically stronger,

Did Gilroy get a contract to play anywere this year? Did Daisey get a contract to play anywere?

I think Andre Petersson will have to blow the doors off the barn to make the Senators this year. His rant in Bingo last year surely offended some powerful people. What will be very interesting is comparing his perfromance to that of Sly and Zibby should they all be in Bingo this year.

I suspect Magnus Paajarvi is not happy in Edmonton. As a 19 year old rookie in the NHL, he scored 15 goals and had 19 assists on a very bad hockey club. At 6-2 and 205 he is big, strong, very fast and unafraid! Again, I compare Zibby’s 5 goals in the Sel with Paajarvi’s 15 in the NHL.

I don’t know if you got to see any of the Amateur,Bruce (I did not) but from what I read, the kid that won was absolutely dominant. The only other that may compare was Allen Miller’s victory at the original and magestic Ottawa Hunt Club back in the ’70s.

Welcome back mon chum et mon vieux.

    I missed you Bruce.

  3. Bruce Garrioch says:

    Thank goodness!

  4. Chris Reid says:

Sorry to hear about your Dad Bruce….we all leave this world, the luckiest get to stay the longest but it is still tough. Stay strong bro and remember my insults and the rest are a result of the bait you feed us ;)

Would love to see a trade of a few of our young prospects for an established veteran looking for a final shot. Thinking Hossa or Iginla actually….do we really expect Zibby, Silverberg, Stone, Noessen, Puempel, Petersson, Pageau, and others I surely have missed to become top 6 forwards with our team in the next few years? Impossible, we do not have space for all so why not make a move for a team in need of some youth and or a goaltender?

Get back in the saddle Bruce and shame these people into playing this year!

  5. OD99 says:

Personally I like the deal for Turris. This coming season still has him at a $1.4M cap hit and if his numbers from last season are extrapolated through an entire season he would be around 50 points which isn’t bad at all for $3.5 in today’s game. And I would argue that we should expect him to improve on that in 2 years.

Apparently he has put on at least 10lbs this off season already and for a guy is so good on the defensive side as well I think this will look like a steal in a couple of years.

Training camp should be a very good battle, there are a ton of good young forwards coming up with potential and if we can start to add a few more defensive prospects this team will be pretty deep at all positions.

  6. …Danny-boy…….I think I am going to cry… You da Maam!

  7. ChokerHater says:

    Sorry about your dad Bruce
hope you spent lots of time with him

Don’t think there will be an NHL season this year, hope there is, but if not, hockey just lost a fan, just like baseball did
