Uh-oh

Not the way it was supposed to happen.
Washington is closing.
Buffalo is closing.
The Senators are in the midst of a three-game losing streak and the Pittsburgh Penguins are coming into town.
Not exactly what the doctor ordered.
Not at all.
The playoffs hang in the balance.
I don’t think they’ll beat Pittsburgh. I really don’t. The Penguins are rolling right now. They are on fire. The best team in the league.
The thought that Sidney Crosby coming back was going to screw up the chemistry was so stupid it was beyond belief.
Crosby has just made them better. Evgeni Malkin is the MVP. Cast the ballots right now.
Big test for the Senators.
It was good that Craig Anderson went back in Friday night.
It will help him get ready for a big test Saturday and I think he will play. Let’s put it this way, he has to play. He has been the horse that has carried the Senators all season. He is the guy that is going to carry them down the stretch.
That’s the way it goes.
Have a great day folks.

No Bruce, they wont win tonight and Anderson shouldn’t have been pulled! Don’t you have anything to say about some players on the team? Are you good with some decisions the Coach has made? I certainly do; I really don’t know what the coach was thinking. I don’t know what the coach is doing other than to keep telling us the team played well and hard. What has happened to the second line production? What has happened to Michalek? He should have scored 2 goals last night! Will Konopka play again tonight and continue the gong show? Will Kuba, Philips, Gonchar, Gilroy and Karlsson actually use their bodies. Will Karlie take it out of 2nd gear, carry the puck across two lines and go into a corner? Will Condra hit someone and finally score for the first time in 26 games? Will the Missing Klink score a goal? Will the slick center Obrien actually make a play and set some one up for a goal (so much for him getting into a fight last night). Will Butler be inserted in the lineup and continue his productionless contribution or will we all get to be entertained by Daisy the Air Rifle? Should Carkner dress, at this point it certainly wouldn’t hurt the team? Will Smith again be forced to play left wing? Will the PP ever score another goal? Anderson was clearly miffed. To say he will be the guy to carry them down the stretch is asking far too much. The Team in front of him needs to play a hell of a lot better (if they can). To ask for a dance when the opposition is up by 4 goals is goofy. Why would they want to? Montreal wanted the puck more than the Sens did, were willing to pay the price and the defence made it that much easier for them.

The wonders a backup goalie and disinterested Penguins team can do for team morale.
Calling the Senators in at this point. They only need about 4-6 more points, Jets were eliminated tonight realistically so not much to worry about from them….

Full marks for the win but we need to put it in perspective; the team was outshot (40 -28), out played most of the night and again, had to rely on great goaltending by Anderson to win. It also helped that the the Pens had a kid in net who was playing his 3rd game in the NHL (it showed). The fact that he stayed in the game for all of the 8 goals scored against him was a testimony to how much Bylsma wanted to rest Fleury!

Isn’t it a shocker what can happen when Konopka, Gilroy and Bulter aren’t in the lineup! Isn’t it a shocker what can happen when Foligno isn’t stuck with Obrien! Shouldn’t skllled players be put in a position to COMPLIMENT skilled players (like Turris and Alfredsson)! There is a very good and logical reason Turris’ line erupted offensively, they weren’t playing a man short by having the Missing Klink on the wing! Amazing huh? And, what does the team get when they put the Missing Klink and Zero-brien together, exactly what you might expect, both were -2 (because neither of them are NHLers). Now that they coach has decided to put them together, sits the bums, put Foligno with Turris, it is time for him to make another move and put Neil and Smith together and have a real physical line. If you have to, put Klink on that line, at least he can skate and put Daugavins, Condra and Zero-brien together. I don’t believe in weakening 2 or 3 lines when the team can have only one and make three very good!

Why, again, wont anyone write about Karlsson? Bruce, your paper must make a conscious decision not say say anthing that may be construed as negative, why? Are honesty and candor bad? Again last night, he was minus 1 and worse yet, he gave the puck away 3 times in his own end! Very simply, he looked terrible and has looked terrible for a while now! Where is all the amazing speed that was talked about all year? When does he take the puck and go coast to coast (like we saw Letang do last night and Subban do the night before). He looks scared and his play shows it. Indeed he has put up some amazing numbers this year, there is no doubt about it, but a defenceman he is not. For an NHL defenceman he does not skate backwards well enough, he concedes every corner, is afraid and God awful in his own end of the rink. If he had a chance to win the Norris, it has all but vanished because of his play the last couple of weeks (just my dumbass opinion).

The Coach must have stumbled on some good decisions because again last night, he made another bad one putting Karlsson and Cowen together.

Spezza got 2 points last night but he could/should have had 4 if the Android could finish. I think of what could be if Petersson was allowed to play a few games for the big club and worked out with Spezza and Michalek. The Coach could then make a fantastic 3rd line and roll 3 confidently!

Great win for the Sens last night. It was just what the doctor oredered. Hockey is a funny game to say the least. I guess Pittsburgh thought they would have an easy time against the Sens as demonstrated by starting a relatively unknown goalie. Hopefully this explosion of goals will carry forward.
