Let it be noted right off the bat that I’m posting this about an hour from the start of the Senators-Coyotes game…now, I find it amusing how so many people are very concerned about Ottawa’s start to the season.
Before the Senators headed west, I thought a 3-3 record after the first six games would be satisfactory. I asked Bobby Ryan. He agreed. Picking up six of a possible 12 points when one of the games is in Toronto and the next four are on a tough, tough trip to California and Arizona, would be “OK”, Ryan said.
So if they win in Phoenix, that leaves them 2-2-2. With six points. So what’s the problem?
I know they’ve started games poorly, and their defensive zone work has left little to be desired, but the fact is the Senators have only laid one real egg, and that was Sunday in Anaheim – less than 24 hours after they played in the Shark Tank.
I mean, I’m not making any excuses for them here, but really, what’s all the fuss?
I guess fans are believing the publication that picked the Senators to win the Cup this season. Truth is, they still have a lot of work to do.
But they also are what they were when the season started, a pretty good team that was faced with the difficult task of playing their first six on the road, most in very tough buildings against strong teams.
It’s not yet time to worry. Not yet, an hour before they take on the Coyotes.
