So long Bobby

- March 27th, 2014

Bobby Ryan’s season is over early.
The Senators confirmed Thursday morning the club’s high-scoring winger is in Montreal to have surgery to repair a sports hernia that he has been dealing with since November.
He will miss the final 10 games of the regular season. League sources say the recovery time for this type of surgery is 4-to-6 weeks. That means Ryan won’t play for Team USA at the world championships either.
GM Bryan Murray said Ryan had been trying to put off the surgery.
“Both Bobby and our medical staff were hopeful that we could hold off from having surgery until the completion of the season, but he aggravated the condition last Saturday in Dallas to the point that surgery is now the only option.”
Murray said Ryan will be fine next year.
“Bobby has worked hard to play through this injury to help his team and his teammates, and had yet to miss a game this season prior to the injury progressing to this point, so we’re obviously disappointed that we won’t have him available to us for the rest of the season,” added Murray. “We’re confident that he’ll recover in time to have a full summer of training that will allow him to be back in our lineup and help this team be successful next season.”
Ryan finished the season with 23 goals and 48 points. His spot on the roster has been taken by Mark Stone from the club’s AHL affiliate in Binghamton.

  1. PaV says:

That could explain why he has been struggling down the stretch. Hopefully he will make a full recovery and we manage to sign him to a short term deal. This is Stone’s chance.

We are going to get waxed by CHI on Friday.

  2. Dan the Man says:

If Ryan’s hernia problem was affecting his play since last Nov, then I think Murray and MacLean are two of the most incompetent individuals in the NHL. Seriously, any player from Bingo, would have been better than Ryan or any player for that matter operating at less than 100%. Ryan should have been shut down then and there unless his hernia was not affecting his play at all. If that is the case, then lets stop making alibis for his somewhat mediocre performance over the last 3 months or so.

Chicago will be tired and fatigued from playing tonight so the Sens will win. That is usually the rubbish we hear all the time when a team is playing back to back games. Just check the official NHL book of jargon, rhetoric and BS that is mandatory reading for all media and journalist wannabees.

  3. FKevin says:

There you go making sense again Dan, had introduced such a idea I would be accused again of being a conspiracy theorist. Has a injury such as this ever healed itself by continuing to practice and play in a sport that strains these body components to the max?Did desperation to justify the steep price payed for the player lead to his attempt to play through the injury until the Sens were almost 100% eliminated questions that will never be answered cause they will never be asked.
Sure muddies the resigning of Ryan even further, I think you can forget about a short term contract Pav, I bet he comes back next year flying, he might even be able to spell certain words. Good in the short term for the Sens, but if he does light it up, the Flyers, Devils and others will be waiting with 7 year huge money offers.
I expect the Leafs will announce when, if?, they are eliminated that Clarkson has been playing with a nagging injury since October. Insert smiley face please.

  4. Bobby Goodman says:

Dan, you are absolutely correct but Ryan wasn’t forced to play with a severe injury because it wasn’t a severe injury. The DAC made it very clear Ryan was bothered by it, but not enough to hamper his play? If Bergeron can play with broken ribs and punctured lung as was reported last year (absolute nonsense of course) certainly Ryan could play with his “injury”. Spezza played with back and groin issues…Karlsson plays with a bad heart!

It is a damn shame he is out of the picture but I have a feeling he wasn’t the happiest camper the last 2 months. He made it very clear he was “very frustrated with line changes” (he served time in purgatory playing on the wing with Zzz as his centerman). He didn’t look enthusiastic on the ice, on the bench and in the Skills Competition, he looked totally disinterested. I really like the kid and know he will make a full recovery…but can he recover the enthusiasm he had when he announced to the world “I’m coming in hot”? We’ll see.

If, as I suspect, Zzzz wasn’t nursing an injury at all, but sat out for his lack of effort, it begs the question, how many times can a 20 year old be guilty of lazy play? Some here said he “needed waking up”….ya think? How in the world could any kid float around when they see the effort others make on the team every shift and every game? Watching Galchenyuk and Gallagher effort last night in Montreal’s win ovr Detroit should be an expample for Zzzz but I have never seen that level of effort and courage from him. Yet, he will be back in the lineup and he will be “in the middle where the DAC likes him”. He will be see time on the special teams because he is…special.

Wouldn’t be interesting to get a preview of what we can expect next year (or the year afer) by promoting Prince or Peumpal for a couple of games? I don’t think it would hurt Bingo in any way but it would give the kids a little taste of what it’s like in the Bigs!

According to a die hard fan the Sens are going to get “waxed tonight”. Wouldn’t it be interesting to have him explain to us why? The same Fan wants the Organization to find yet another defence partner for Karlsson. I would like to know that kind of defenceman he thinks might be the best fit, afterall, he has had a few now and he’s currently paired with the Sens best defencive defenceman?

The Sens wont have to deal with Rund’sbad. Now on his 3rd team, he was a healthy scratch against the Bruins and I suspect the will be in the press box again tonight.

I was a huge ‘Spos fan and went down to see them often. We made a trip with our spouses in ’94 when they had the best team in baseball and the ball park was empty; it was a damn shame. Montreal didn’t deserve a Major League franchise.

  5. Bobby Goodman says:

Many times this year we have read posts from the anti-Spezites who complained about his lack of defence. They complained about his horrible minus number (currently, minus 22). It is an eye sore to be sure but how could it possibly be better? He has had the pleasure of having Zzzz on his line who sports a tidy minus 15 and all year he’s been with Milan Michalek who is minus 24! When he did have a plus player with some courage (Conacher), he was removed. Spezza’s had Neil, Smith, Condra, Grant, Greening and the list goes on.

Does it matter who a center has his line? Consider the following:

    Crosby +11 with Kunitz, 63 points, +25
    Seguin +13 with Benn, 69 points, +17
    Getzlaf +28 with Perry, 72 points, + 29

    …see a pattern here?

Malkin +10 with Neal, 53 points, +14 (both have missed a bunch of games)
    Toews +28 with Sharp, 71 points, + 17
    Thornton +21 with Pavelski. 72 points, +24

What is really interesting is to see the numbers associated with the Washington Capitals:

Backstrom, -20 with Ovechkin, 72 points, minus 24

All the great centermen have a plus player by their side and the ones with the best numbers have the very best patrolling the wing with them. Can you imagine what Backstrom’s numbers would be like if he had to play with the wingers Spezza’s had this year:

Spezza, -22 with Michalek, 34 points, minus 24. Some of the others inlcude:

    Zzzz -15
    Greening -15
    Neil -9
    Smitty -8
    Condra -2
    Grant -3

It is a double whammy so to speak. Not only can his wingers score, they are just as bad defencively! Had Michalek been able to increase his point production to equal that of the lowest in the list (Neal – due to games lost) 53 , Spezza’s -22 would be -3. Had Spezza been with Ryan and MacArthur (48 and 49 points), he could have been +17 or so. On a team that has allowed 243 goals (the league’s worst), it wouldn’t be too bad. Would it?

The masses write thier letters and hop on the blogs and vent, but I often wonder if they actually bother to look at it closer. I read the tired lines like: “he should make others around him better”…what nonsense. The basic premise, if that were to be true, is the “other” should possess some talent and actually want to make the effort (especially a big strong, healthy 20 year old who isn’t playing on surgically repaired knees).

While the tireless and talented Turris played most of the year with wingers that shared his talent and work ethic, Spezza was saddled with anybody and everbody. He isn’t a rover playing the wing with the team’s best (Karly on the wing primarily with Turris and Spezza), nor does he spend 2 minutes every powerplay. He just accepts what the DAC gives him, and does his best even when he was hurt. He never offered excuses, always took responsibility and never shied away from the media, even though they have often been brutal!

He was booed as a plus player and gets grief when he’s minus. I wonder what he truly thinks about it all.

  6. Bobby Goodman says:

Didn’t Wiercoch look a lot better than The Big Rig has all year?! Didn’t he look a hell of a lot better than Cowen?! Wasn’t P/Dubya better on the PP than TBR? It all begs the question, why did he sit for so many games. The big kid can carry the mail, has a long reach and possesses a big shot.

Damn Turris and MacArthur compliment eachother, don’t they. Stone is on the same page hockey sense wise but can’t keep up with them. Yet he has played well on the line. Turris and Mac are great skaters, beautiful with the bisquite, couragous and relentless. It is a treat to watch.

The Shooter didn’t score a goal, didn’t earn an assist and he didn’t register a single shot! But, he drives the middle well!????? He lost 75% of his draws and saw icetime in all situations. When Condra and Hoffman were fighting for the puck, Zzzz was parked very high in the slot. Yep, I like him in the middle! Potsie said it well the DAC “will have him on the ice in all situations”; he neglected to add whether he deserves it or not. The kid can’t take a pass, give a pass, can’t carry the puck, win draws/battles and the speedy prospect aint speedy!!!!! He lumbers around! But hey, some here love him even if he is incapable of “showing even a lttle bit of creativity”. He is so uncomfortable with the puck he often does these touch passes that go to….no one. The kid, like Karly has no compete in him what so ever.

Karly was ignored in both papers today. Shocking! Potsie and the media weren’t shy to point out that Keith was minus 4 but was he worse than Karly? Karly was (again) on for all 3 goals scored by the Black Hawks, it happens all too frequently but it was his “effort” level that continues to make me ill. For the first 2 Chicago goals he stood around and merely waved at the man and the puck. He could have used his “explosive speed” to step in the way, but he chose to stand, watch and reach instead. Chicago got their 3rd goal because Karly was lazy and casual going after the puck against the boards. He was beatr off the puck as he was all night but hen he stood stationary and watched as they scored. Even the religously loyal group here had to be disgusted.

Spezza’s line wore a minus 1 (and that is the way it has been going for most of the year). They didn’t deserve it of course. Karly should have been minus 3 but because (as I have often pointed out) he is on the ice for most Turris and Spezza shifts, he ended the night zero in the +/-. He didn’t earn a point. Everyone has off nights but who on this hockey club are guilty of not even trying (besides Karly and the speedy Zzzz)? Did the DAC punish the best hockey player in the world for his defiant disregard for defence? No maam? He didn’t miss a single shift. Now I ask you all, what do you think the others on the team think when they are at ice level watching this every game?

Yes, the Sens took down the mighty Hawks but they allowed 49 shots! Anderson was spectacular.

  7. OD99 says:

So many tears shed for poor Spezza by his biggest fan. It is amazing the theories that a fan boy can come up with to try and deflect the fact that Spezza doesn’t back check and doesn’t really care about defence.

Trying to compare him to Thornton, Crosby and Getzlaf?!?! HAHAHAHA!!! Not even close to the compete level of those guys – they care, they hit, they battle. Spezza does none of that unless he is behind the opposition net and then he will try like the dickens to get the puck so he can just blindly throw it out to the slot (as we saw last night, he killed a few nice cycles by CLEARING THE ZONE with a pass to nobody). And Spezza was -1 last night despite 5 goals by the Senators…only he, Hoffman and Hemsky managed to be minus players.

Also watched Keith give the puck away and get walked around a few times. Add in his 1 shot, 0 hits, 3 GVA and -3 and that Norris favourite is sure to get slammed by our resident whiner – he has to, right because THAT guy says what he sees, not what people tell him to see.

Karlsson didn’t pad his points lead but he was also even on the night despite being stuck with Spezza a few times and a few of his give aways (how he was only saddled with 1 is laughable).

Stone looked very good again, too bad he was a 6th round pick by Murray because as the crotchety crier will tell you he can’t possibly be any good. But then again, he is a Canadian and did play in the CHL…so I guess he is good? No, being drafted by the Senators trumps the CHL – it’s only if ANOTHER team drafts you and you are from the CHL that you are automatically better than anyone drafted outside of the CHL.

The hopelessly hostile drama queen will keep up his, “look at me” posts with fewer and fewer people caring…we can only hope he never changes and keeps up the entertainment.

  8. Dan the Man says:

Eithet Ryan’s sports hernia hampered his playing or it didn’t. If it did, then Murray and MacLean are fools for playing a player who is not capable of playing at 100 %. If the injury did not affect his playing then using his injury as an excuse for significantly poor performance is not valid. I would be therefore rather concerned about Ryan and his future value. You simply can’t have it both ways. One has to wonder if Ottawa could have won a few more games with someone like Stone or Hoffman playing instead of the injued Ryan since last Nov. A playoff spot would be more likely.

    PaV says:

    ====================================
That’s from the resident hockey expert

Scary eh, but not surprising hahaha

  10. PaV says:

Choke I actually laughed out loud. Very witty comeback. Hey by all accounts we should have had our asses kicked eh?

  11. Dan the Man says:

Pav, for numerous years it has been common knowledge that we were in dire need of a big tough solid defenceman and a stud winger who can score and is a legit top 6 forward to put us over the top. We have thrown away alot of assets over the years that could have been used to secure the two above mentioned players. Sadly Murray has failed big time. If Melnyk knew hockey, he might realize this. Then again, what the hell do I know!

  12. Bobby Goodman says:

Spezza’s a bum; he doesn’t back check, he kills cycles, loses the puck, doesn’t compete, care or hit. I suspect Davey-boy isn’t a fan; what do you guys think? The Captain doesn’t lead his team/league in give aways. Nor does he lead his team and perhaps the league in TGA. They belong to the Best Player in the World (per Davey-boy). Karly was on for all 4 goals against versus Nashville and he was on for all 3 against Chicago. It is a re-occuring theme. Perhaps Davey-boy was excited with Karly’s defiant disregard for defence, but I suspect his team mates weren’t. I think they were just as sickened as I was. Early in the year Methot said Karly played a casual game, he said that the same guys doen’t buy in and play hard game after game. Ryan, Turris and MacArthur have taken turns asking for more effort. Who are they eferring to?

Was it unfair for Spezza and his line mates to expect Karly to make an effort to stop a goal from being scored (he did it 3 times!)?

Yes, the lousy Spezza has 60 points in 68 games, good for 29th (17th among centers). Personally, I think it remarkable since he is coming off back surgery! But mostly because he has played with 10 wingers including Zzz (13g, -15) and Michalek (14g, -24)! Spezza has been blessed by playing with Grant, DaCosta (both in the manures), Neil, Greening (6g, -15) and others. He had Ryan for 3 games and briefly Conacher. Conacher has 3g and 3a in 11 games in Buffalo where he isn’t playing with Zzz.

Davey-boy doesn’t think I should compare star centers but I say of course you can. I am not saying one is better I am only taking a closer look. Crosby (the best player on the planet and perhaps the best that ever lived) has Kunitz and his 34g, Getzlaf has Perry’s 38 and Thornton has Burns (21) and Pavelski (38) and Marleau at times (31). Spezza is only 2 points behind Krejci’s 62 points in 74 games (Spezza played 68) and his line-mates are Lucic and Bergeron! Spezza have more points than others who are also celebrated:

    O’Reilly – Duchene and McGinn
    Backes – Steen, Tarsenko
    Staal – Skinner
    Johansson – Ovechkin

What would Spezza’s numbers be like if he had players who could finish. Davey-boy thinks Spezza should makes others around him better, but no one has been able to make Zzz better (he is afraid of the corners and the puck). Spezza’s helped Annika, Heatley, Michalek and Greening have their best years! Karly attributed his best year to Spezza (which Davey-boy now poo poos). In Edmonton Hemsky had 9g and 17a in 55 games, good for .47 PPg. With Spezza “in the middle” he has 2g and 7a in 11 games good for .87 PPG. He’s also making Hemsky better! Forget about having Perry, Kunitz, Kessel and others of that ilk on his line, what would Spezza’s numbers be like if he had Hemsky who can skate, goes into corners, wants the puck, can take and give a pass and create opportunites!

Most will celebrate the worthy; people like Davey-boy can only celebrate who their told.

  13. OD99 says:

The fan boy can’t help himself – his crush is just too deeply cemented.

All of Spezza’s shortcoming are due to his linemates and all of Karlsson’s negatives are because he doesn’t try…hilarious, one sided, short sighted and just plain wrong.

The drama queen can’t quite figure out that some of the wingers are having good years because they have a center that gets them the puck in the right spots and leads charges by making defensive plays deep in their own end. We all know Spezza doesn’t do that – and this is from a guy who likes Spezza and defends him to most other people. Just not the ones who are so in love they are blind to the realities – Spezza is not close to the best centre in the league.

Karlsson is even on the night and the hater decides it is because he gets to play with good players. The fan boy doesn’t realize how idiotic he sounds when he says stuff like that because he lives in fantasy land – where all good things are due to Spezza and all bad are due to Karlsson and Zibanejad.

Tell me drama queen – do you attribute the marginal point lead of Couturier over Zibanejad to the fact that Couturier gets to play with skilled NHL players who score a lot of goals compared to the guys Zibanejad gets to play with? No, of course not. That argument is saved for when it fits your agenda.

Twisted facts and made up stories are the mandate in the “reality” of Booby Badman. So much has come into focus in the last few weeks. He pretends he wants to actually create dialogue but he doesn’t, he is in capable because he is delusional. Now it is just funny all the time.

  14. Dan the Man says:

Kudos to Don Brennan for making the pre-game radio show interesting and controversial. It was probably the best sports talk show I have listened to in a long time. It is unfortunate Mendes and the two Wilson’s feel obliged to tow the company line and try to espouse the glass is half full concept. Well done Donnie, you were great.

  15. PaV says:

Dan we are lacking a lot. I wasn’t happy with the two year deal with Phillips. The pre game was nuts. Don made some really good points. At knee point I thought they were all going to throw down! Ha!

  16. Bobby Goodman says:

Davey-boy, I think your imaturity is showing. If you are trying to appear foolish, you’ve have been exceedingly successful. The name calling is…telling.

I didn’t realize how intense your hatred for Spezza was. How can a player so bad as he, have 6 points more than Turris, having played 5 games less, losing a year to back surgery and having played with 10 wingers, some as God awful as Zzzzz? Turris is a fantastic hockey player! He has 25 goals! His wingers have 24 and 23! He (they) are having fantastic years! How good a year is Turris having you ask, he’s only 6 points behind the bum Spezza!

Do I have a crush on Spezza? Absolutely not! I love the guy! Unlike you and the mindlesses masses, I decide who to celebrate! I love a lot of players: Duchene, Seguin, Stamkos, Crosby, Neal…but I really love a star playing for my team!

You’re stubborn boy, Dave, you admire a conceited, arrogant, selfish, crass and lazy kid who quits, who wont make an effort and is minus 29 for his career. But you will hate a guy with 681pts in 679 games, plus 58, never offers excuses, never complains, never shuns the media (even though they have been brutal) and who takes full responsibilty for his performance. I shouldn’t be surprised, you are a lemming afterall.

Any success Couturier enjoys is entirely due to his effort and skill. Skill can’t allways be counted on, inevitably players will go into a slump and that’s passion/intensity is mandatory. Zzzz’s had ample opportunity to play with the Team’s very best but it’s becoming abundantly clear he simply isn’t a good hockey player. The marketting people say he’s great so you have no choice but to celebrate him (like all the others over the years). Zzzz suffers a double wammy, he has no skill and he needs a heart transplant.

Karlsson saw only 21 minutes of ice-time, why? Is it within the realm of possibility the DAC took minutes away? If that’s remotely possible, why would he? Perhaps is is due to his inactivity. You are enamoured with his inactivity, Davey-boy I am disgusted by it. I imagine what he could do if he possessed the heart/courage of a Conacher, Galagher, Ennis, Johnson or Gerby who are all much smaller! Karly would have been worse than his -1 last night, but he spent a lot of his 21 minutes on the ice (AGAIN) with the Spezza and Turris lines (5g). Still, he was one of the 3 who in the minus column. Like the game against Chicago (on for all 3 of their goals), the game against Nashville (on for all 4), last night the best player in the world, was on for all 3 scored by Calgary! Those who shared the ice with him, again were penalized.

I hope I make you laugh Davey-boy, you can’t be taught anything! But of course I have an agenda son, I want the Team/Organization to be better!

Wasn’t it a shame Ceci sat for Philips, The Big Rig. Ceci would have loved the opportunity to play against his good friend Monohan but the DAC sat him down. No class what so ever!

  17. Bobby Goodman says:

Dan, what did Donny have to say in the pre-game show that may have challenged conventional wisdom? Did he point out some flaws, holes, cinks in the armour? I’m curious because Pav seems to be on board!

Pav, as we all know, never had anything to say all year about the hockey club. He can’t even say who may be the best player in the NHL or who might win the Calder. What up with that? He only posts here to complain about some who “trash his team” or to trash Suckubban and the Habions (he hasn’t had much to post recently; the Habion’s have 93 points while he and his team mates have only 76).

It is interesting that some are now willing to concede there are issues. The DAC and DAACs are now under suspicion. Writers are questioning Karly’s courage, committment. The Big Show’s propensity to put his ego (bad penalties) ahead of the team is garnering attention. Greening has been criticized (it took long enough). Cowen is the subject of much debate. Pav sat waiting until is was safe but now possesses the courage to say the Philips signing was…less than good. Is he questioning the GM? The horror! I wonder, do Dave and Pav have opinions on the Conacher file (Davey-boy shat on him early in the year…why…’cause I liked him of course!). Conacher has 3 goals and got 3 assists in 11 games since being let go; was that another “rebuilding move” by the GM? How is can the fast skating and couragous Conacher enjoy success away from the guy Dave likes at center “becasue he drives the middle”????

Yes, Dave loves Zzz’s 1 assist in the last 13 games! He drives the middle! Perhaps Dave means Zzz stays in the middle where it is safe, far away from corners and the walll. Dave and Pav must love Zzzz’s 2 goals this month, both with an extra attacker, one on the PP and the other with 6 seconds left and the team behind by 3 goals. They have to be really impressed with Zzz’s 6 goals in the last 45 games (including the 2 inconsequential goals this month)! The DAC, who “likes Zzzz in the middle” knows he can absolutely count on Zzzz for .133 points every game! He also knows absolutely for certain Zzzz may score a goal once every 7.5 games (if he continues to see a lot of time with the man advantage)!

Yes, Zzz is one of the Dave’s faves. The shooter has 15 assists in 63 games this year but earned only one assist in March as a centerman! What!!!! Yet, Davey-boy loves Zzzz and hates Spezza. Where as I will question the moves/motives made by the DAC and the GM (like playing Zzz, using him at centre and in all situations) there are some who are simply, all to willing to accept anything and everything, regardless. It is blasphemy to question, to want more, to want better! I am not familiar with the mind control techniques employed by the Senators marketting and promotion department, but damn they are effective on the mentally feable.

  18. OD99 says:

They hypocrite strikes again! The drama queen and egomaniac is now pouting because someone called him a name? Didn’t realize you were such a delicate flower princess. Maybe if you get into such a tizzy due to a few names you shouldn’t live in a glass house…

Booby thinks he is so important on here that people will actually lie or create counter arguments just to disagree with him. Of course half the time it is completely a figment of his imagination but still…he sure things highly of himself.

Why do you oppose Karlsson so much? Only because most people here enjoy the flair he brings and the offence that helps win many games. You just want to be different so you rant, over and over and over, day after day after day, year after year after year. If it wasn’t so hilarious I might start to think of how sad it really is that your life and your personal self worth is 100% dependent on the reactions you get to your comments on this site.

Myself and many others have posted numerous items over the past few weeks and despite your protestations of wanting to have discussion they all go ignored so you can spout the same drivel you spout each day.

You are a simpleton with only a few original thoughts but I am the big sucker because yet again you dragged me down to the mud so I can wallow with you.

  19. Bobby Goodman says:

Hows that hanging out with your idols going there Pav…smoked…cigars recently?

  20. KevinF says:

Wait… He does what to hot air AND Brian Burke????

  21. Mike8888 says:

    Kevin.
I believe that was the worst thing ever said about Bobby.

  22. Bobby Goodman says:

Name calling…I love it….and believe I said that a few times.

Do I think I’m important, no…but you must, you keep bringing it up. Why? If I am willing to go out on a limb and make a call on a player and you consistently have a different opinion, wha can I assume? Expecially when you can be so inconsistent (you now hate the Captain). I believe I have always suggested my posts are just my dumbass opinions and that I have been wrong far more than I have been right…haven’t I? If you like so many players I didn’t think were great and history has proven they haven’t lived up to your lofty expectations, is it my fault? You liked Daisey the Air Rifle over Smitty (who I have always really liked). You were “really excited when DaCosta was with the team (’cause your fave, Zzzz didn’t make an effort and was sent down). You loved Rund’sbad who can’t make the NHL and has now been with 3 teams. You love Cowen who may be the worse than TBR. And, you have loved Silfverberg, Pageau and every other player signed by the Sens. But you save most of your adoration for Zzz and Karly. Hey, I am not a fan…c’est la vie.

Why do I oppose Karly so much? It certainly isn’t because you like him Davey. I wasn’t a fan before you let the world know you were! I can’t even believe you are asking me the question because anyone who comes here (even once in a blue moon) surely knows I don’t like any player who doesn’t care if the team wins or not, no matter who they may play for. Everyone knows I hate if a player quits, doesn’t even try, disapears for tough games, is afraid to go into a corner (even with the 5, 5 Gerby). And, I don’t like floaters who are one dimensional, conceited, arrogant and beleive they are entitled. If you ask me again next year, the answer will be the same.

You and the other super fan, Pav, keep talking about how my life revolves around this blog. How very silly of you. Where does this come from. I will take a few minutes to scribe some thoughts (which would probably take you two half a day) and this my life? I want to be different? No Davey, I am different…most are…only you mindless lemmings are the same.

Davey, I was wrong, I don’t want a discussion with you. It would be like talking to a 10 year old (Booby Godman?????). You think a kid is a Star even if he quits and doesn’t try. You don’t mind players who lead the league in Gva. You celebrate bad behavior. You believe 1 assist in 16 games, 7 goals in 56 and 37% FOW is worthy. That great, you and your friends should have a lot in common and much to talk about.

Indeed Davey, I am a simpleton…but his simpleton has forgotten much more than you will ever know.

Hey Mike if it’s true it don’t make him a bad person, live and let live is
my credo. But I know what you mean I was shocked when Pav said it too !
Thats why I asked for clarification.

  24. PaV says:

Yeah – sorry – please accept my apologies Bobby – the statement should have read:

Blowing more hot air than Brian Burke

I wrote it on my iPAD must have made a typo and the autocorrect kicked in.

  25. PaV says:

Just sayin’ iPADs were not meant for stubby fingers…!

Bobby you forgot what you had for breakfast and that is the main reason there is no use engaging with you. You don’t understand what is written and then create stories in your head.

I hate Spezza? Show me where I ever said I don’t like him. You can’t because I haven’t. You get all whiny because I simply point out that Spezza and Karlsson are essentially the same player and you can’t wrap your pea brain around that. You have a crush on Spezza and that is fantastic but at least pretend to have a pair and admit his short comings are the same as the guy you hate and waste your life complaining about.

Your same tired old lines too about Winchester, etc….so much made up it is hilarious. Shall we go back over your all time favourites? Regin, Shannon, Schubert, etc…?

You even still go back to a quote Karlsson said when he was a ROOKIE about getting Spezza the puck – you will hold on to that for ever though because you can twist it to fit your fragile storyboard.

Ya you have forgotten a lot alright but one thing I don’t believe you ever learned was respect, maturity, comprehension or social skills. Keep on keeping on child.

Bobby, as I said earlier, Donnie’s input on last Sunday’s pregame show was for once entertaining. He challenged MacLeans decision to start Anderson despite his disappearance over the last three weeks for unknown reasons He also suggested that thought should be given to trading Karlsson to speed up the rebuild etc…. Mendes and Murray Wilson were almost giddy with shock and awe to what Donnie was saying and suggesting. Naturally, in my opinion, they could not debate the above subjects with any flair or serious counter arguments. Anyway, for the first time in a long time, I thought the pregame show was good radio, thanks soley to Mr Brennan.

I think we all knew that Pav just a little levity.

  29. Bobby Goodman says:

Dan, I’m disapointed in Murray. I expected more! He played in the NHL and has (I think) 4 Stanley Cup rings playing for the Habs. Those teams didn’t have players who played on the periphery, no did they have anyone who quit or worse yet, not even show up. Every player bled for the team and the Organization reaked of history, pride and class. He knows exactly what it takes to win, but he has been silent. I really don’t understand it at all.

Murray is a hell of a nice guy and one of the very best athletes to ever come out of the NCR. We know about his hockey skills: starred for the 67s, the Vs in Halifax and the Big club in Montreal, but he excelled in other other sport and in particular, Track and Field winning events (setting records) in various discipliines for Laurention HS. Murray could really skate and like his brother, had a fantastic shot but t was a shame he belonged to Montreal. The team was packed full of great players and Murray would have had more opportunity with another team. His back prematurely ended his career (if my fading memory serves).

Pav said I live in the past Dan, in part, most do. I remember when we didn’t have to applogize for a team’ names. I played Little League for the Hurons! Why do the names Black Hawks, Indians or Red Skins offend? Couldn’t they be seen as honoring native people? Are Skandinavians offended by “the Vikings”? Why would Tomohawk offend? Would Spear or Bow be bad? Why change the name of a mascot to pacify a few who look for reasons to be offended (bilingualism costs billions to please a militaristically, unilingual Quebec?).

I long for the days I could say Merry Christmas, Happy Easter (it never really had a religious connotation but rather a message of peace and good will)! I remember when Haloween was simply a night for kids to dress up and collect candy. I remember when people got jobs based on merit (gender and race had nothing to do with the selection process). Living in a poor neighbourhood, I had friends of every color and religinon but no one noticed or cared, being Canadian could be defined and Government only governed (they didn’t tell us what to eat etc) and new papers weren’t tabloids with an agenda.

I remember when good behaviour was celebrated and hockey played in this town entertained. Much has changed Danny-boy. Remember when we could all affort to play hockey and the theme was about having fun! Words like structure and systems were never part of the lexicon. We got on the ice and we just played. Today, if an adult doesn’t take a course, he can’t coach (I’ve seen some who never played and can’t skate, coach!). I see coaches taking up 20% of ice time while kids stand and barks away. We were all comfortable with the puck, for the most part, kids today aren’t, they are encouraged to “move it quickly”!

Athletes get better every year but much has changed Dan, I don’t have to like it all, do I? Should I appologize for that too?

  30. Dan the Man says:

    Bobby, I couldn’t agree more.
