The end of the road

WINNIPEG _ The Senators made a move in the wrong direction in the standings Friday.
They fell further back.
As they prepare to wrap up this four-game road trip Saturday afternoon at the MTS Centre against the Winnipeg Jets, the Senators sit six points back of the Detroit Red Wings for the final playoff spot in the East with only 19 games left.
I calculated it the other day: My guess is they need to 12-3-4 in the final 19 games to have a hope. Now they don’t have winger Clarke MacArthur either.
They also need a lot better effort than they got during that dog and pony show in Calgary the other night.
Give the Flames credit, they worked hard.
The Senators didn’t seem to know what the word work meant.
The club had an 80-minute practice in Calgary Friday before taking an afternoon flight here. Chris Neil and Jared Cowen exchanged a few punches. There was a little passion.
It was odd. I can’t recall this team ever holding that long a skate the day before a game. There is no morning skate today so it’s not like they have to spend any energy this morning.
Still. You don’t see it. That’s why it will be very interesting to see the first 10 minutes today and how they react.
Winning is the only way they make the playoffs and even then that may not be good enough.
Have a nice weekend.

I am predicting a 4-2 win against Winnipeg. This is based on the fact that most teams ultimately win a game just before hitting rock bottom.

As this year appears to be a write off and the rebuild appears to need 3-5 years more, I simply don’t understand signing an old slow and not so effective defenseman to two more years.

  2. Dan the Man says:

4-2, 5-3, whats the difference. Bobby, Winnipeg is a mediocre team with a few good players, less than stellar goaltending and a pile of mediocre players, not unlike most teams. Why you think they are a good & upcoming team is beyond me. Their recent success under new coach Paul Maurice is very typical of most average teams who have a sudden and somewhat controversial coaching change. To lose at home on national tv at this point of the season against another mediocre team simply demonstrates that they are at best a mediocre to weak team. Then again, what the hell do I know?

  3. Bobby Goodman says:

Isn’t it amazing what Spezza can do when given some talent to work with. Isn’t it amazing what Hoffman can do when given some talent to work with. Zzzz doens’t help these gifted players.

The Sens won yesterday and it was fun to watch. With his 3 points game, Spezza now has 50 in 59 games played. Ryan, Turris and MacArthur have 45 in 64, 46 in 64 and 44 in 62 respectively. The gap is widening. But where is the love? What no letters to the Editor praising his play? Shocking!

As I predicted the usual suspects didn’t show up for this hard game against a very tough team. The “Shooter” Zibanisbad played 7:51 minutes; he didn’t register a shot nor did he register a hit. Again he didn’t score a goal nor did he get an assist. The best defenceman and fastest skater in the world didn’t get his usual 30 minutes; the DAC limited him to 22:51. Against the big, fast, strong Jets, Karly didn’t lead a rush, had all of 2 shots on net, didn’t hit a single body, had no goals, no assists and led the team in Gva. Methot however, was outstanding.

But this stuff never gets any ink, just like Spezza’s 50 points in 59 games this year playing with those not blessed with talent. With Zibanisbad out and Hemsky in, Spezza has someone to pass the puck to who can actually do something with it. Hemsky really is a skater (Zzzz is not). Puck possession is sustained, as opposed to being lost once it is on Zzzz’s stick. Hemsky can hold on to it and make a play (Zzzz gets rid of it). Hemsky is smart and can read the flow and get into position to give and recieve. He doesn’t pretend to want the puck.

The Hoff showed off his stuff…again, yesterday. The 24 year old who has been great in the manures for 3 years, loves the puck, is magic with it, is a wonderful passer, has magic hands, is an explosive skater and he is defencively responsible. It took him until this game against the rough and tumble Jets to gets some points but you saw the tools and effort was there. You have to wonder why he never got the 10-20-50 game audition many other did. All he needed was confidence and I think he may have it now.

Spezza set up The Hoff for his first NHL goal (I think that makes his first one that much more special), it was one of the Captain’s 3 points and his line had an aggregate of 10!

But before we got too excited it is worth noting the team escaped with a victory because Anderson was spectacular. The Sens allowed 49 shots on net compared to their 32. The were beaten 37 -28 in the dots. Gave the puck away 12 times to their 7, had less take aways and and again, took dumb penalties. Philips and his partner were minus 1 as was Neil and his linemates. They were the only ones on the team on the wrong side of the ledger. I feel sorry for Smitty being stuck with Neil and Greening.

We got to see an emerging star in Trouba yesterday and he’s only 19. I think that greatness means more than accumulating points; you have to show up when needed.

  4. OD99 says:

Just wondering; did someone say that Zibby was better than Hemsky? I don’t recall that argument but good to know we have cleared the air. Yes, the veteran Olympian and NHL start is better than the Zibanejad.

One thing I agree with is that the Jets took it to Ottawa for long stretches yesterday but most of that was when the game was already essentially out of reach so the Senators may have been guilty of sitting back a bit.

Hoffman did look good again too which is awesome and bodes well for the rest of this season and future seasons. Maybe some of the youngsters will be making an impact for this team.

Spezza is doing what he should and while I appreciate his play I don’t see the point of trying to somehow make his turn-around a negative towards the line that has clearly been the teams best all season. I guess some people prefer to be negative – who knew?

What love are you looking to see Bobby? How can we rectify this injustice? I am happy to write a letter to the editor about how good Spezza has been in recent weeks if you like.

  5. Bobby Goodman says:

Dan my man, you may be right and I may be wrong…I have been wrong far more than I have been right but I think the Peg is far further ahead than the Sens and had it not been for Cheveldayoff’s unwillingness to fire Noel, this team would be in a much stronger position to make the post season (Noel was just plain awful).

The Jets should have won the game yesterday, they were all over our Sens. Goaltending was the difference. If I look at the Jets, I see a team that is enertaining, unafraid, very tough, can skate and score goals! Lowry is a kid starring in the WHL (no NCAA) and will replace Enstrom at some point. They have another big tough D in Redma

Little is a wonderful hockey player, he and the huge Wheeler would be tied with Spezza on the Sens in scoring with 50. Ladd is a big strong hardnosed guy who can put up points and he would be tied with the Turris and Ryan and he can and will go if needed! B4, when motivated, is one of the best players in the league! Noel was bad for him but B4 works hard for Maurice. He has 46 points (again, tied with Turris and Ryan). Scheifele is only 20 and he is really is a prospect (unlike Zzzz). He shows up, can skate, has skill, goes into the corners and scores goals. 13 so far this year. Kane, when motivated, is another star! He has 15 goals and should score 30 goals or more a year. He can really skate, can shoot, stickhandle and fight! And he is only 23. The 26year old Frolik is a nice hockey player who again will show up and bleed for the team. 19 year old Trouba will win a Norris one year and sooner than later. The 25 year old Elerby is 6-5, Pardy is 6-4, Bogosian 6-3 and and they aren’t big slow pylons. Bogosian is a dandy; all are physical! They will show up everygame no matter who they play against. No no-shows among them. And even their big tough guy, Peluso can skate. Tangardy is huge and a decent 4th line player.

The goaltending hasn’t been great but I think it can be much better than it has shown. This hockey club was in complete disarray under Noel (who was way out of his league and I saw it early last year) and it can effect every player no matter the position they play. Maurice is allowing them to have fun and it shows.

This hockey club truly is hard to play against. They forecheck with a purpous (Karly knew that gong into the game…that is why he was invisible). This team can skate, score and battle and IMO they are damn close to being very good. At the very least, they entertain!

  6. PaV says:

Just so there is no ‘fake’ facts posted here on the Habs loss yesterday, PK was a minus 2.. so he has fallen from grace being a plus 13 months ago to now a plus 3… yeah… do the math Bobby.

Hey Dan the Man, it’s now time to panic!

  7. Dan the Man says:

Well Pav, if somehow we can reel off 5 or 6 wins in a row, we will have a fighting chance. I figure 91 points wii get you the final playoff spot. I really don’t see any of the teams ahead of us battling for the last playoff spot plaing much better than 500 hockey. If Columbus and Detroit play 500 hockey from here on in, they will finish with 89 points. All is not yet lost, but losing to Edmonton and Calgary s
    last week was un-called for.

  8. PaV says:

Did you all notice that the HABS didn’t fair much better (actually didn’t fair better at all) than the SENS on their current western road trip?! They only took 1 of 4. At least the SENS took 2 of 4. Granted they should have won vs the Oil and Flames but still.

PK stock is falling fast. The guy is a huge liability on the ice. Falling from a +13 back in late December to now being a +3 –

Some may say I am repeating my self, but I am taking a page out of The BobbyG play book… just sit here and repeat and repeat the same old stuff over and over and over and over and over and over again.

  9. Bobby Goodman says:

Again, predictably, you missed the point Dave. You’re right, no one said Zzzz was better than Hemsky. I’m saying Zzz isn’t worthy of playing with Spezza and the Captain’s numbers, although very good, could have been even better with a hockey player on his right side. The Club has tried desperately to make Zzzz a good hockey playe: they promoted him when his numbers did warrant it, he played with the teams best, he saw lots of PP time but the reality is, he simply isn’t very good at all. Its not just Zzz, I wanted Spezza playing with some hockey players, not bums, all year! Yesm the veteran Olympian is better than you boy, but then again, so was Conacher. Don’t take it personally Dave.

Again Dave, you are missing the point (are you doing this on purpose?). I have been a huge supporter of the Turris line all year and have even called them one of the best lines in the NHL. I have said the Sens have one good line and that is all! My point is, radio, TV and the newprint media all have done their damdest to viligy Spezza for years and this year has been no different. I NEVER read a good Letter to the Editor printed in either paper, but there have been many published that are absolutely brutal. My point, obviously, is Spezza’s numbers are spectacular, how spectacular you ask…even better than those on the Turris line! Get it?

You must have a high opinion of yourself Dave, I am not referring to you (understand this, no one cares about me and no one cares about you). Where as Zzzz and Karly will be celebrated incessantly, Spezza only gets attention when he plays bad and the articles can be viscious. That all Dave. I am not talking about you and don’t give a damn about you.

Oh by the way, how did you boys play on the weekend? How can an old, angry, hateful, misogynistic, prejudiced/biggot idiot like me predict with alarming accuracy when Karly will have a bad game (not show up, actually). What about your 50-60 point man Zzzz. Did he impress you the same way you were impressed by Butler, Daisey, Rund’sbad, Silfverberg, DaCosta, Stone, Cowen and the many others?

You have stooped to Pav’s level Dave. Why not post some of your thoughts rather than focus on commenting on mine. Especially, when you make a conscious effort to misinterpret what is being said. You are better than that…aren’t you?

  10. Bobby Goodman says:

Pav, Pav, Pav…you’re not comparing the Habs and their games against LA, San Jose, Anaheim and Phoenix with the Sens and their games against Vancouver, Edmonton, Calgary and Winnipeg…are you? You really are a silly fool. The small, gutless, talentless and unworthy Habs are second in the Atlantic Division with 77 points, the Sens are 3rd last with 67 (just so you know, this isn’t a good thing…the idea is to get as many points as you can…more is better…K?).

Yes, the road trip didn’t go well for Montreal, but even a fool could have predicted that (well, most fools). The best teams in the entire league, come from the Western Conference and the Canadians played against some of the very best! The best team in the league (at the time, I think St Louis may be first overall now) Anaheim (93 pts), was beat by the unworthy Habs. They lost to: the Sharks who have 89 points, LA with 78 and Phoenix with 69. They all play in the West! All of them have more points than the teams the Sens played!

Yes, the Sens beat Vancouver who are in a tailspin led by the incompetent lunatic Yosemite Same. They have 68 points. The Sens, because of Anderson, stole a game they had not business winning in Winnipeg who have 67 points. The Sens were soundly beaten by 2 of the worst teams in the league Calgary and Edmonton who have 57 and 52 points respectively.

You must be so very proud Pav. Are you even aware of what you are doing here? You are celebrating the losses of a team who will make the post season and have 10 more points than your Sens!!! Are you concerned at all about Ottawa (I strongly suspect your aren’t you got the EK Coffee mug, the autographed sweater, the full length poser, and remnants of his Cuban cigar)? You continue to call out a player who will show up against the teams that play hard, but ignore the player who is the subject of your fantasy and with whom you are fixated. He doesn’t even show up against teams that play hard! Share with us all what you thought of his play in the game against Winnipeg (and while your at it, who is the best and who will win rookie of the year…you said you needed time to think about it….it’s been 8 months for one question and 5 weeks for the other).

“Some say I am repeating myself”………I dare not say what many are really saying about you Pav. Tust me, you don’t want to know.

  11. PaV says:

DanTheMan – I think the chances of us getting in is slim. If we had taken Edmonton and Calgary (which we should have) my tone would be different. I think we would need to run the table. The game tonight and the game Sat will determine the SENS fate I think. We should take Nashville. The much bigger and more talented Habs should walk over the smaller and less talented SENS on Saturday. The funny thing is that all the ‘pundits’ and ‘media types’ that Bobby calls out hiding behind a keyboard said that the Habs will struggle after the Olympic break. They do not have the size or skill to compete for the full 82 games. In the last 5 games they have been outscored 17-10. In that stretch they have only complied 2 wins, and they were both in OT/SO! When compared to other teams, they look very very very small.

    Ole Ole Ole

  12. PaV says:

Dave – I would take it as a compliment that you have stooped to my level – even at my level you are 30 or 40 levels higher than BobbyG.

    Ole Ole Ole

  13. Bobby Goodman says:

Who…ever…said the Sens were smaller than the Habs? In the same post Pav says Montreal is bigger and more talented (than the Sens), then say because of their lack of size and skill, can’t compete in 82 games! I’m trying to understand the kid but I can’t. It reminds me of the science fiction classic “Plan 9 from Outer Space” and an even more classic line in it: “…I must, but I cannot….where does I must, but cannot meet on a graph”. In the Fool’s case I can say: …..I’m trying to understand (the kid) but cannot….where does I’m trying and cannot meet on a graph. Great stuff. The script is God awful and the lines, very simple….I think Pav may…may…understand them.

As for hiding behind a keyboard. You can’t forget that I had a few beers with you and reveal my full name. No hide!

Lets forget about this nonsense. Why not tell us all what you think is wrong with the Sens Pav. Let us all know why you think Zzz played 7 minutes on Saturday? Will he score his 5th goals in 37 games? What do you expect from him in the remaining games? Why did Karly play only 22 minutes? What do you expect from the team in the last 20 some odd games? What’s your forecast for next year? What do you think of Hoffman and why haven’t you said a thing about him for 3 years (do you know and like him now because others do)? If the Sens miss the post season, is it Spezza’s fault or could it be the fault shared by the GM and the DAC/DAACs and the decisions they have made? Is Maclean doing a good job? Is he and his team doing a better job that the 9 others that came before him? What is it you like in particular: missing the post season, the shots and goals allowed? Their 8th worst position in the 30 team league? If Kevin sudenly started liking Montreal, would you too?

Who should win rookie of the year and…..to test the limits of your courage and understanding of the sport, who do you think is the best hockey player in the NHL? Good God man, I may hide behind a keyboard with my name “out there” (yours isn’t) but at least I will have a take as wrong as it may be most of the time! If only you (and many more just like you) were as upset with the demise of the Sens as you were pleased by some of Montreal;s failings (making the post season, only 10 points ahead of Ottawa) perhaps there would be some motivation by the Organizaion to put a better product on the ice.

A hockey note, I really have to wonder why Maclean keeps making reference to “we have to play harder, we need to be prepared, we need to compete” Isn’t he criticizing himself and the DAACs when he says stuff like this? Or is Spezza responsible for that as well as everything esle including the cold weather!

  14. Dan the Man says:

I am predicting an easy 5-2 win for the Sens tonight. Trotz’s days in Nashville are all but over. They have been digressing over the last 3-5 years and I suspect Trotz would have been fired a long time ago if Nashville was not a small market and money was not an issue.

I worry a bit that Lehner is not a happy camper and I can see him leaving for greener pastures the first chance he gets. One has to figure Anderson has at least 5 more years left in him, ergo I doubt Lehner is prepared to play back-up much longer.

  15. PaV says:

Oh Bobby, you are so special. You know my name is Pavan, and just to for you, my last name is Singh. But you know this, we used to exchange emails and once or twice share beers. You come on here, rant, attack, make up childish nicknames and pretend you know what your talking about. Give it up.

Dan I am thinking 5 to 1 for the Sens.

  16. Dan the Man says:

Ouch! Sure glad we re-signed an aging slow defenseman for two more years.

  17. OD99 says:

Holy cow Bobby – way to take it to an another level all together. Seriously man you need to chill the….out.

You insult people like it is your job – what the hell is your problem? You tell everyone to give their opinion of this and that but for what? You don’t engage in conversation – you yell at people. Mike has posted his opinions and so have I but we get no response. This is my post from a couple of days ago that you did not respond to…will try again:

Bobby do you genuinely want to discuss topics? I don’t believe so. You are all over Mike (or you condescendingly like to call him, “Mikey”) for not having an opinion but he has had opinions and your only response, just like it is to all of us who don’t come on here daily and trash Murray, Karlsson, Zibanejad or the coaches is that he is a lemming, celebrates mediocrity, enjoys losing, etc…

It is simply amazing that this is lost on you. Your writing style essentially eliminates any discussion because you bring up old, almost useless stats (the +/- being a favourite) to support your arguments but the completely ignore them when it comes to your favourite players.

Tell me Bobby, why is it OK for Spezza to have the team’s worst +/- and one of the worst in the league? I know, it because of excuse A (Karlsson is bad), B (Michalek is bad) & C (Zibanejad is bad).

Tell me Bobby, who are the other players around Karlsson for GVA? Taylor Hall, Joe Thornton, Kessel and my goodness!!! Subban and Doughty – the two best D of all time. Even Trouba – the soon to be best D of all time is right up there. Why is that? Do you think it is because they have the puck a lot and try to make plays? Sometimes, even for those perfect players, attempts at making plays don’t work? I know!! Karlsson sucks defensively so that is why he gives it away but those OTHER guys have had bad bounces, poor team mates or the statisticians are against them.

On another note, Spezza is 6th for Center’s in GVA and the players around him have a lot more TKA’s as well.

Spezza is also near the bottom in hits for Center’s as well with most of the players around him having played far, far, far less games. Some guys who have more hits than Spezza this year include DaCosta (12 games played), Kevin Porter (12 games), Ryan Strome (20 games), Freddie Hamilton (11 games).

Tell me this too Bobby – who do Doughty and Subban have 31 TKA COMBINED while Karlsson has 55 all by his lonesome? I know!!! The Senators have a plan so that Karlsson is the only one able to get pucks out of a scrum and the other guys all win their board battles so someone else can have the TKA to their credit. It is a greedy, stat first players against hard nosed, good Canadian team players.

OK, there are some stats – let’s have a discussion.

  18. Bobby Goodman says:

So Karlsson was on the ice for all 4 of Nashville’s goals and it could have been even worse! On one, he had his stick in the air when he should have been playing the goal scorer (who deflected a shot) harder. On another, he was caught up the ice floating back when Nystrom got a feed back and scored. On the last one, Philips bungled the puck as the last man back while Karlsson was standing in the crease chillin’ Pekka. Everyone is punished because of Karlsson’s defiant disregard for defence. At some point, you have to think the DAC will take notice and have a word. But, probably not.

    Zzzz was again, awful.

Oh yes, Spezza got 3 more points…Ottawa scored 3 goals. He now has 53 points in 58 games good for 15th among centermen. He very well could have had a few more and I suspect Hemsky thinks he’s died and gone to heaven. I wonder if any Letter to the Editor will be published that praises the Captain’s performance…not a chance!

  19. Bobby Goodman says:

Wasn’t it “news worthy” to let all the readership know that Karlsson was on the ice for all four goals scored against the Senators last night? I have to assume it wasn’t because it wasn’t noted in either paper today and you have to wonder why? Really and truly. What is the agenda; protecting the myth? Spezza was crucified for years for giving the puck away but he never even led his team but Karly leads the entire league! After the game last night, there are only 9 defencemen in the entire league with worse plus/minus. This isn’t important enough to write about? If not, why not? What about effort, I know this is subjective but did yo see it from Karlsson?

isn’t it curious that Methot’s plus/minus climbed up in the plus side when he was paired with another but now, after re-joining Karlsson, he’s only plus one and heading in the wrong direction. Has his game gone south?

What about Zzzz, why does he escape criticism? Can’t the question be asked “why does the Coach like him in the middle”? Last night, the big, strong, fast, shooter and 6th choice overall had shots, 1 hit no assists, no goals and lost 90% of his draws! Too negative? Did anyone see him win a one on one battle? Ottawa’s top prospect has but 4 goals in the lst 37 games yet, here he is, with the big club, still getting icetime. The DAC rewarded him for his good play by giving him time on the PP and the PK.

Speaking of the DAC, why on earth would he have Karly killing penalties? Why Zzzz? Why would he ever have Philips on the PP (often he fumbles the puck). Personally, I would much rather have Wiercoch dressing for a game than The Big Rig. In 42 games played this year Wiercoch has 17 points and is even in the plus/minus! The Big Rig after 55 games has 13 and is minus 7! I don’t get it.

Neil is another who can do no wrong. He is minus 10. Greening is minus 12 and Smitty is minus 8. He is stuck with the other two. The “energy line” is minus 20 and that can’t be good…can it? Aww but Neil “woke up” Cowen. What nonsense.

Can you imagine what would be written in the papers if Karly had 8 points in the last 5 games? My God the pics and the paragraphs would be jumping off the pages…hell, the papers would have gained weight (they’ve all been on the Jenny Craig). But it was the Captain who has 8 points in last 5 games so it isn’t worth writing about. For his efforts last night it was written: “…what can you say, he has a flare for the dramatic and tried to push the pace…too bad it came too late”. The Lord giveth and the Lord taketh away. Is he playing better? No he isn’t playing any better at all. The only difference is, he has someone on the right wing who can actually do something. Someone who really can skate, stickandle, pass and read/make plays. When was the last time Hemsky had 6 points in 2 games? I would wager he never did. Spezza pushing the pace didn’t come too late, the goals did though. Where is the Turris line?

    Agenda?

  20. Bobby Goodman says:

What really confuses me the most is the silence; why aren’t all you die hard Senator fans demanding more? I’m sure you remember the teams that led or were among the leaders in every category and the players who did the same. The recent loses to Calgary, Edmonton and Nashville speaks volumes and they very luckey to escape Winnipeg with a vicory after allowing 59 shots.

I listened to Menzies and Simpson this afternoon and they too, chose to ignore the symptoms that have plagued the team all year. Simmer, rather than blame Philips for bungling the puck (again) or finding fault with Karlsoon parked by the the Preds netminder, blamed Spezza for not back checking hard enough on the game winning goal. They failed to mention Spezza’s 3 points (the team scored only 3). They failed to point out he has 8 points in the last 5 games and 53 in 60. And, of course, didn’t chose not mention that Karly was on the ice or all of Nashvilles goals.

But what about you guys. Do you have any issues at all (besides my penchant for prose). I will share a secret with you….it’s OK to say if you do……shshshshshs……..

  21. Bobby Goodman says:

    Good on ya Donny!

I wonder where Hoffman will land now that MacArthur is back. I suspect he will be paired with Zzzz and that would be a damn shame. If it were up to me, I would move Michalek out and try Mike on the left wing with Spezza and Hemsky. Afterall, Michalek will not be with the club next year, so lets see what the kid can do (does Murray still harbour hopes of making the playoffs???).

I have to assume we will see more of the same in the remaining games and if that is true (and even if it wasn’t) it raises a lot of questions about next year:

    - what to do with Greening, Neil, Michalek, Condra,
    - what happens with the goaltenders and in particular, The Lehner (Dan’s right, he wont and shouldn’t be happy as a back-up),
    - what about the Coaching (Richardson will be promoted, it is only a matter of when),
    - what about Zzzz, the Coach “likes him in the middle” but on what line and where do he go in the rotation),
    - what can they reasonably expect from him,
    - what do they do with Ryan, I like the kid but after a torrid pace to score 20 goals he has done very little (he is here to score goals, not kill penalties),
    - if things continue the way they have, will the Sens make a pitch for Hemsky (I love his skill level but he has been inconsisent his entire career; and
    - what will be done with the defence; as good as it may be to have huge kids on the back end, they need to possess the ability to make the right decisions, not panick, not chase others around (or concede the corner and the puck)…perhaps…Benoit and Gonchar had that ability.

Next season (the 4th year of the 3 year rebuild) is only one year away from the Stanley Cup GM Murray promised (the 5th year of the 3 year rebuild). Who would you guys like to see guiding the Sens at this critical time in their (de)evolution? Lee, Dorion…more Murray? I would move em all out.

The Canucks have been a disaster this year and that too was predicted but it was the Ownership that lead the way to hire Yosemite Sam! We have seen what happens when Owners get involved and the results can be…disasterous.

There is a big game coming up on Saturday; the Sens will play the Montreal Canadiens. It may have little to do with playoff implications but has a hell of a lot to do with pride. Will Kassian dress and get his 5 minutes or less? I suspect he will, but I certainly wouldn’t have him in the lineup. The Team doesn’t need awful 4th lines. It will be interesting to see what the Coach does with his lineup and what the lineup combinations will be. The game may be meaningless but it will reveal even more about the coaches and the character of the players. I will be very interesting.

Who…ever…said the Sens were smaller than the Habs? In the same post Pav says Montreal is bigger and more talented (than the Sens),…

Oh BobbyG, can’t even keep track of his own contradictions. Chec out your posts roughly around the time the SENS were facing the HABS. There were numerous posts by yourself stating reasons why the HABS have the advantage over the SENS. The HABS were more talented, the Habs were faster, the Habs were quicker and lastly they had more size.

You are full of it, if you want to have an open and fun discussion, stop with the insults, the childish nicknames and the rants with the same posts over and over and over and over and over and over again. You sound like a broken record.

OD/Mike – I heard if the Sens take the last 12 games, they have a chance… looks like an early golf season for the boys!

  23. PaV says:

Oh and BobbyG – I checked the archives – so there is no need to deny that you didn’t state those things about the HABS before the post season. But feel free to contradict your self.

  24. Mike8888 says:

    Bobby,
Perhaps we’re silent sometimes because the Sens are actually our favourite team, and we don’t use this venue as our own personal “Sens bashing” site. I guess we could all whine about the same things over and over, but who would want to read that?

  25. Mike8888 says:

    Pav,
I realize the odds of making the playoffs are bad, but if they can actually start winning consistently, who knows. Montreal on Saturday would be a good start.

  26. PaV says:

Mike – logic doesn’t work with BobbyG. He doesn’t understand that we as fans are not happy with the team, but they are our team. He is a Habs fan – his main thing is to come on here and bash our team.

  27. Bobby Goodman says:

Dave, what about the team, the game Sat, the Canucks? As for Mikey, it is a term of endearment, I will stop calling you Davey it offends thee.

“Is it lost on you” that Spez is + 59 in his career; Karly -26? Aren’t you a tiny bit curious why Spez’s number is bad this year? Have you considered why Methot’s plus/minus gets worse when he is paired with Karly but climbs when paired with others? Is it possible that Zzz’s -12 and Michalek’s -22 coupled with their inability to score goals have contributed to Spezza’s -21 (only 6 wose than Karly)? When you consider it all Dave, perhaps Spezza’s numbers may not be entirely his fault. But you have to look for the truth. Its out there!

I’ve introduced many topics for discussion? Pav seems to be concentrating on Suckubban and the Habs. You on…me. He is unwilling, as are you, to talk about some of the many issues around the league and problems associated with the Sens. If its not a celebration, there is no discussion.

The puck is on Karlsson’s schtick, but when pressured it is given away. Against tough teams he doesn’t touch the puck at all (you never comment on this Dave, why?) His takeaways are the result of picks and team mate’s hard work, not true gets! That is why Dave, he’s minus 15 and on the ice for far more goals scored against than any other Sen! When he does have the puck, the first person he looks to pass to is, you guessed it, Spezza! He even said so when asked why he was so successful in his Norris year: “I give the puck to Spezza as quickly and as often as I can”.

You go after the Captain beause I like him? Spezza is 6th in give Gva among centermen? Are you saying he isn’t leading? Perhaps you didn’t notice Dave, KARLSSON LEADS THE ENTIRE LEAGUE!

Others centers have more take aways, more hits? You really are desperate. You may have noticed, Spezza has 674 points in 671 games. He pounces on the puck, goes into the corners, gets the puck, protects it, finds an open man and tees it up for them, he’s been doing it for years. He’s 29th in league scoring primarily with guys who can’t score or assist (no more than 11g). He’s played with others even worse, yet he is 15th among centers in scoring! Among centers who have taken 1100 or more draws, only two are better than his 53.9%. His 18 PPPs puts him 11th among all centermen. But he still performs 5 on 5 as it represents only 34% of his total. Karlsson 26 PPPs represents 45% of his total! His minus 15 is against 32 points. Karly spends the lion’s share of his TOI with the Spezza and Turris lines (he’s their 4th forward) and 2 min every PP! Spezza spends most of his TOI with Zzzz and Michalek!

Perhaps Dave, Spezza isn’t as bad as the media paint him out to be and perhaps, Karly is much worse. You and the others should ask, why would I dislike any player by default? Perhaps it is because I find defaults in their games and character. I want more, I want better. You guys are quite satisfied!

  28. Bobby Goodman says:

Mikey…sorry, Mike…don’t bash….just comment! You aren’t limited to the Sens, what about the many other issues. What abut the game on Saturday? Where would put Hoffman now that MacArthur is healthy? Where would you play Zzz and why? Why do you think Karly only played 22 minutes in Winnipeg? Why do you think he disappears in tough games? No bashing, just frank discussion.

If your son (hockey team) was doing miserably in school and it was because a teacher (GM/players) was incompetent, wouldn’t you want the teacher replaced? Perhaps Mike, you are entertained by the current Sens and truly see promise in the 5th, 6th and 7th year of the rebuild. I love Ontario, but hate the way it has been managed for years, I love Quebec (played hockey there for a couple of years) but hate what has transpired and the way they have been managed…for many, many years. Voicing my displeasure with a Premier has noting to do with my love for a Province. It is because I really care, I desperately want change. I suspect you may feel the same way and if you do, why do you readily accept the mighty fall the Sens have taken the last 7 years?

Whatever…it seems you guys only want to cheer. Before I go though, you should ask youself Mike, where will the Sens be by the end of the year (and why), where do you think they will be the year after? If I am right and you will see more of the same (failing to make the playoffs or merely squeaking in…will it then be OK to talk about it (bash). And tell your buddy Pav…that the “diminutive Habs” has been an expression of mine for many years (since Gionta and Gomez arrived). They are even more diminutive with Bouillion, Galagher and Deharnais. But the little guys are couragous, some arevery fast and the Team plays with passion and intensity. The GM, his team and the Coaches don’t have double standards, insist on effort every shift every game and hold players to account. Maybe, Mike, that’s why they are 10 points ahead of the Sens in the Standings.

  29. PaV says:

Mike – It is a long shot. I still have hope, little hope, but its still there. Playing MTL (who is in their own slide at the moment) and winning would boost confidence. I also think that we need players like Spez and EK to step it up and lead by example. Spez has picked up his game (since the Oil game last week) but we still need more from him. Its a long break between Monday and Saturday, but should be a good game nevertheless.

  30. OD99 says:

You are a lost cause Bobby. And your ego is too much – I am not focused on you. I am focused on seeing if I can make you understand that if you really want discussion (you have added to your daily rants and now include asking all of us to discuss topics YOU want to discuss). I really don’t think you possess the ability to do it though.

I am also not attacking Spezza – just pointing out that you are a blatant hypocrite. All the things you complain about with Karlsson are the same issue with Spezza but you are blind to it for some reason. Even to the point of (as I stated you would) having excuses for all of Spezza’s negative stats and the positive stats for Karlsson. How is it possible to have a discussion that way? Literally everything good that Karlsson does is luck or due to some other players yet Spezza is guilt free – there is no room for discussion there Bobby. You really don’t see that?

Karlsson leads the team in points – who are these magical players he gets to play with?

You keep bringing up a quote from Karlsson in his rookie year about how he passes it to Spezza like it happened yesterday. Trust me, Spezza is ecstatic whenever he and Karlsson are on the ice together and vice versa.

I have mentioned other players and other items about the Senators plenty of times – you ignore them so give it a rest with your comments asking me to discuss, discuss, discuss.

In fact, I think you win, you can have this place all to yourself.

Mike, Pav and the rest – have a good few months, perhaps I will check back in next season.

  31. PaV says:

One has to wonder what does MTL do now? They have scored one goal in 120 minutes of hockey.

Ole Ole Ole….. maybe the ‘media types’ that know ‘nothing’ were right on this one…. MTL doesn’t have the skill, size or talent. IF they make the post season, like last year, will get walked over and not make it to the second round.

  32. PaV says:

OD99 – why leave due to one nuptee? You have great insight along with Mike and others – just ignore him.

  33. PaV says:

But the little guys are couragous, some arevery fast and the Team plays with passion and intensity

That’s why they have scored 1 goal in 120 minutes of hockey. They have been outscored in horrific fashion over the last 6 games. They are slow, weak and lack scoring. But in BobbyG’s eyes, that is passion and intensity.

  34. Visitor - Pierre D. says:

PaV, if you are that obsessed about the Habs please head to a Habs board or blog.
This space has been graciously donated by SunMedia to discuss the SENATORS so let’s stay on topic lest we lose this privilege!

Anyways, Don, I’d like to ask (if I may) why you didn’t say a word about ANderson pulling himself the other night. Goaltenders get jostled constantly during games. Is Anderson too precious to allow his royal self to be bumped? What is he going to do in the playoffs when Brad Marchand, Zdeno Chara, Patrice Bergeron and others are in his kitchen? Is he going to skate to the bench and pout? I’d like some answers to THOSE questions but instead we got a mind-boggling reference to what Lehner did three or four years ago?
Lehner has been average to below average this year! I do not blame HIM at all for this as our coach is coaching like he is managing the Antigonish Lobstermen instead of the Ottawa Senators. Still no criticism of the DAC!

AJ Jakubec rages, like man badly in need of anger management of some sort, when you question the DAC on the post-game show. He says: “Doubt Paul MacLean at your peril.” but I have doubted him for some time and am being proven right! The media at large, fearful of losing their free pass to see NHL hockey, won’t ask the coach hard questions.
Ian Mendes is the ONLY one that has wondered why the SEnators are bottom five in goals against since Paul MacLean has been here! It should not be “Doubt MacLean at your peril”, it should be “BE coached by MacLean at your peril!” as he alienates Ryan and Spezza, mismanges MacArthur, gives too much icetime to Matt Kassian “Uhhhh the team has a .800 win percentage with Kassian uuhhhhhhh I am smart head coach”. The fool has never heard that small sample sizes are not to be trusted, and that a larger sample size (ALL the NHL games Kassian has played in, or at the very least 200-300 NHL games played) is necessary to judge this phenonmenon!

But now I am hearing (again…) that Ottawa’s prospects are world-beaters and that Curtis Lazar is Superman! I hope Lazar does better than the Android or Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz, who apparently has the hardest shot but can only score 3-4 goals a year!

I certainly hope the Senators can beat Montreal Saturday, if not they sure aren’t beating COloado, a team that hires actual winners instead of never-were’s like Bryan Murray and Paul MacLean!

  35. PaV says:

VIS – it would be nice to have you and Bobby bugger off and post somewhere else. This blog is not about what you and Bobby make it out to be.

  36. Neil Harris says:

Yes, this place sure has degenerated with Bobby’s long-winded rants and PaV’s infantile trolling of Montreal and all the “ole” nonsense. Still, there is some good discussion. Even Bobby has several very good points, they just get watered down when they are repeated ad nauseum.

I believe the team has a chance to make the playoffs. A win in MTL on Saturday is essential to doing so. Spezza is starting to lead. If he can just translate that passion to the defensive side then all will be well. He has looked good with Hemsky. The big worry is still our average goaltending and sub-par defence, where only Mark Methot is a legitamitely top-tier defenceman. If our goalies can elevate their game for the home stretch we have the firepower to put together a run and get on the bubble at least. Gotta have faith.

  37. Bobby Goodman says:

Pierre, pity the Fool. What’s this Blog about? Why not talk about the good and the bad?

Zzz has 4 goals in 47 games (will it be 4 after 38?) and he is “celebrated” for winning a “skills competition”!? Didn’t Greening win 2 before? Zzz fell down in a skating drill! Speaking of skills, Karly wasn’t the fastest nor did he have the hardest shot. Wasn’t his attitude just wonderful?! Awww but he was “tired”.

Turn away Pav; the Sens are God awful, only 7 teams have worse records. They’ve averaged the 4th most shots per game and only the Islanders and Oilers have allowed more goals. The two goaltenders are off; Lehner’s allowed 3.05 goals per game and with .912 save percentage and Anderson 3.10 and .912. The defence are collectively -27 (Gryba is best at +6, Karly worst, -15), the forwards are -58 and the DAC and DAACs can’t make things better! Annika was great, but could he lead 2013-2014 Sens? Actually, his “great leadership” is an exaggeration. Consider the Teams record since his arrival (when it mattered most):

    - ’05 – ‘06 lost in 1st round in 4 games to Toronto
    - ’06 – ’07 lost in 1st round to Buffalo
    - ’07 – ’08 lost in 2nd round to Washington
    - ’08 – ’09 lost in 1st round in 4 games to Buffalo
    As Captain of the Senators
    - ’09 – ’00 lost in 1st round to Toronto
    - ’00 – ’01 lost in 1st round in 4 games to Toronto
    - ’01 – ’02 lost in 1st round to Toronto
    - ’02 – ’03 lost in 1st round to New Jersey
    - ’03 – ’04 lost in 1st round to Montreal
    - ’04 –’05 no games
    - ’05 – ’06 lost in 2nd round to Buffalo
    - ’06 – ’07 lost Stanley Cup final to Anaheim
    - ’07 – ’08 lost in 1st round to Pittsburgh
    - ’08 – ’09 missed the playoffs
    - ’09 – ’10 lost in 1st round to Pittsburgh
    - ’10 – ’11 missed the playoffs
    - ’11 – ’12 lost in 1st round to New York Rangers
    - ’12 –’13 lost in 2nd round to Pittsburgh

With the best team in Hockey, Annnika led the Sens to the finals once! They made it to the second round only 3 times (including the Cup Final year). THEY LOST IN THE FIRST ROUND 11 TIMES! Is this great leadership? What is great leadership? Anyone? If Captain Alfredsson couldn’t lead the best team in the NHL to a championship, lose in the first round consistently and fail to make the playoffs twice, what can Captain Spezza do with this team?

The Fool says he loves the Sens, so why not Spezza: 674 points in 671 games and plus 58 over his career (in spite of his -21 this year playing primarily with Michalek -20 and Zibanejad -12); 53 points (second on team) playing with 10 different wingers, none with more than 11 goals; 29th in league scoring (15th among centermen); 11th in PPPs (but great at even strength, his 18 PPPs represents only 34% of his total); 9th in assists and of the centers who have taken 1100 draws, only two are better than his 54%.

Keep posting Pierre and talk about it all, the good, the bad and…

  38. Dan the Man says:

Big game vs Montreal tomorrow. Habs are indeed falling from grace. Sens should win, but I am really worried about the dreaded rust factor kicking in.

  39. PaV says:

I only do the HABS thing as I am proving that repeating the same thing over and over and over and over means squat. The immature nicknames are just sad. The arm chair coaching is pathetic.

Dan the Man – the HABS are falling from grace, but from what I read they will have their #1 back in nets. Price looks like he is starting on Saturday. We have Lenher in nets. Lets hope his outing is better than when he played vs. Detroit. Anderson is out – apparently there are some on here that think that he is too precious to play. Which on its own is a ridiculous comment to make; someone who likely has never played any sport.

  40. Bobby Goodman says:

You’re right Neil. I do repeat and should stop because the issues I bring up often, are always ignored.

Tell me all, should lack of effort be ignored…is it acceptable? It is to Dave. In a post earlier he detailed another account of Karlsson quitting on a play. I don’t know about you guys but even once is unacceptable! The guy was on the ice for all four goals score against in a game but saw 31 minutes? Go figure.

I love discussion, but can’t get it going and I think part of it is because some here simply don’t want to accept some failings. Neil, do you think Zzz should play center? If so why (last game he had 2 shots, 1 hits and lost 90% of his draws. The game before he didn’t have a shot nor did he have a hit. He rarely has the puck on his stick! Hoffman, the poor bastard, will be playing with him in Montreal.

You say the Captain should pay more attention to defence, can you explain where Spezza fails? Often, he is the one digging for a puck in his end. He comes all the way back., he wants to come out of his end as a unit and when Karlsson doesn’t lose it, or doesn’t pass it away/dump it off, or make everyone stop at the other teams blueline, he passes it to Spezza! Always on the right side! If Spezza has to pay more attention to defence, what about Karlsson (-15) Zzzz (-12), Michalek (-20), Neil (-10), Greening (-12), Smitty, the poor bastard playing with the other two (-8)?

On the team I realy hate, I realy lke: Spezza, Hoffman, Turris, Ryan, MacArthur, Smitty, Boro, Wierchoch, Methot, Lehner and Anderson. Can anyone say they like that many players on a team they dislike?

I simply want better, most here don’t really care. Isn’t it worth noting that since Murray inherited the best team in the league the organization has been in steady decline ever since? Or shoud we ignore that reality. In 4 of the last 7 years under his (friends and family) stewardship, the Sens have allowed more goals scored agasint them. What about points? In the last 7 years with him at the helm the team had/has:

    - 43
    - 36
    - 44
    -32
    - 41
    - 43 (did the math to account for the short season)
    - 35 (that is the projections based on where they are now)

Even if my math is off Neil, it doesn’t change the fact that the team is God awful and all the signs are pointing for it to continue! Where as I and some others want frank discussions at what needs to be done, most don’t want any change and simply want to celebrate!

The GM has gone through 9 Coaches already so I suspect he wont get rid of Maclean (and his crew) anytime soon, even though they have the 8th worst recored, allow the 4th most shots and are 3rd worst for goals scrored against! Spezza needs to work harder o his defence (WHAT ABOUT A DEFENCEMAN?).

The Habs lost to Boston, but shouldn’t have, they beat them everywhere but the score board. Parros and Weiss didn’t dress; Budai, Murray, Emelin and Briere were brutal. I think Therien is an awful Coach.

  41. Bobby Goodman says:

Correction: the numbers represent wins….not points, but id doesn’t matter teh message is the same, the team has been in steady decline for years! Where once the Sens challenged for the prize, were among the league leaders in every category, were fun, exciting and entertained, they aren’t that anymore. Most fans have lowered their expections considerably. We need Annika back, he could lead this team out of the darkness the same way he led them…in the same way he led them……….he really didn’t lead them…did he?

  42. OD99 says:

Karlsson won the puck control relay – (speed while handling the puck) and the shoot-out…Spezza won…nothing. So funny yet so typical – the hypocrite is able to deride the skills competition because Zibanejad wins the hardest show and IN THE SAME PARAGRAPH make a negative comment because Karlsson didn’t win hardest shot or fastest skater. Too funny.

Karlsson leads the league for Dmen PP and even strength points.

Mackinnon is certainly having an incredible season – what a player, he reminds of Crosby except he is slightly taller. Will be fun to watch the Avs on Sunday but how dumb is that timing? The Senators have to play Saturday night in Montreal then home the next day at 5PM? The schedule is so odd this year.

Was sad to hear that Petersson was traded away, I still had some hope for him with his skills. Guess we will see if he can make in the NHL with another club.

Huberdeau – a guy who lit up the QMJHL and who was drafted 3rd overall the same year as Zibanejad only has 9 goals, 25 points and is -7 in 65 games while getting loads of playing and PP time.

I am hoping to watch the Preds/Sens game on PVR tonight – sounds like the Spezza/Hemsky line woke up just in time that night…hopefully we will see some scoring evened out with MacArthur back with Turris and Ryan (hopefully Ryan can start burying some of those chances too!).

I like having the young guys together but do wish it could have been Hoffman – Zibby – Conacher…still bugs me that we just waived him. Dumb, dumb move…even if they had to let bodies sit for the final games after acquiring Hemsky they could have re-adjusted the roster in the off season. Unless perhaps we were at our contract limit? Bruce, do you know if that played in to it?

Oh ya, I decided to listen to Pav – would have been dumb to move on and that isn’t really my style anyway.

  43. Bobby Goodman says:

Murph my man, I’m not sure why you say the Sens should win tonight, Montreal has a better record and they may have Price back.

It will be interesting to see what happens. Ottawa’s scored 18 more goals this year but have allowed 43 more to be scrored against them. This has been their downfall the entire year.

The Turris line matches up almost even with Montreal. 135 pts to their 138) It is a push. But the Spezza line blows the Plekanek line out away with 187 pts to their 87. The 3rd and 4th lines may be the difference makers. While Smitty, Neil and Greening are minus 20, Weis, Prust and Moen are mins 5. From a toughness perspective, neither side will have a distinct advantage. Averaging out the points per game, Gallagher, Eller, Galchenyuk have averaged .45 ppg while Zzz, Hoffman and Condra averaged .31 ppg.

As for the defence, The Sens could take full advantage of Douglass Murray (the Sharks let him go because he is brutally slow), Emelin (who is having just an awful year) and Bouillion. Beaulieu, a beautiful skater and plus player, will not dress. Karlsson the same number of games against eachother, Karly has 17 ponts and minus 5 while Suckubban has 13 points and plus 7.

What does this all mean, perhaps nothing at all…in a single game, anything can happen. The difference most often comes down to who truly wants it more. Lets see who leaves it all on the ice tonight.

If Price is back and the game in Montreal, I have to go with Habs.

  44. Dan the Man says:

Bobby, at this time of the year, it seems to me that the team most desperate for the win usually does. Ottawa really can’t afford to lose while this game is not as important for Montreal. Despite Ottawa’s shortcomings, they do tend to play well against Montreal. Remember, Price should be rustier than the entire Sens lineup. Take a look at tonights NHL schedule. If you simply pick the team most desperate for the win, you will pick the eventual winners 90% of the time.

One thing that really irks me is that everybody knew back last October that our defense is poor yet GM Murray has not done one thing to try and improve the situation. If we had to blame one aspect of the Sens poor performance this year, it is the overall play by the defence.

  45. OD99 says:

So I am the one that calls out Karlsson for his lazy back-check yet you turn that in to me saying it is acceptable? And then once again you blatantly lie and say you want discussion.

You don’t want discussion, you never have, you simply want everyone on here to agree with you and tell you how smart they think you are because you complain about everything under the sun (and in the Sun).

I did watch that Preds game and will say that Spezza quit on the OT goal the Preds scored against the Senators…he has Jones until the blueline and then just let him walk in and poke the loose puck in. Too bad, not what I expect out of a captain.

Hope for a Senators win tonight so I can read all the reasons they shouldn’t have really won.

  46. Bobby Goodman says:

You know Murph, I never really liked the term “desperate”…bad things happen when you’re desperate: some will rob banks, bald guys wear awful lids…some contribute to many different Blogs. Nothing good happens when your desperate. I perfer a player with pride, who wants to win and willing to whatever it takes. MIA when it matters, doesn’t cut if for me. Perhaps it is semantics Dan!

I see Dave is back and that is good….Ole Ole Ole Ole. I have to wonder if he’s still proud of his two Swedes. The DAC put out a city wide APB but couldn’t find Karly for 60 minutes. But Dave’s stubborn, he will like Karly and Zzzz no matter what they do…er….don’t do. Zzzz will score 60 points a year and we see evidence of it ever game he plays, what with his speed, skill, compete level, creativity, stickhandling. BTW: Karly won the shootout iligitimately, he failed on his first attempt and should have sat but he took other players place(s)?! Turris may have beat him on the relay…the organizers were desperate to get him engaged but he is one of those who believes he is entitled. I wonder if Dave was proud. And shouldn’t Brown be a wee bit embarassed after shamelessly chasing Karly around a caling out: “Erik…Erik…Erik…Erik….Erik……Erik……..Erik…..” only to be ignored. No Spezza didn’t win anything, but like he does in a hockey game, he cared about his event and he is closing in on Karly team lead…in points…he leads the entire league in give aways and being on allowing other teams to score when he is one the ice. Methot was minus 3 tonight….isn’t it amazing how quickly he is losing his way?

Dave now thinks Zzzz is better than Huberdeau….(the kid is comical)…..why…because teh 6-4 inche Huberdeau starred in the Q and is having an off year this year. He only won Rookie of the Year at the same age as Zzz was when he was riding the pines in the SEL!!!!! Another bum that Dave thinks Zzzz is better than is Coururier another 6-4 inch French Canadian kid (they come out of the shoot with a pair of Tacks on their feet) who starred in the Q. Today agaisnt the Pens, Couturier had 2 assists, was plus 3, saw 19 minutes of icetime and saw 6.28 minutes of PK (his team won 4 nothing). Did I say he was plus 3!

Zzzz had his usual game. No goals (4g in 38 games and counting), no assists, no shots, minus 1 and he did all of it in 11 minutes of icetime…the coach doesn’t have much confidence in him 5 on 5 but he likes him in OT!!!!??????

At some point, Dave and the others will have to concede Karly doesn’t show up for the tough games (he will be invisible again tomorrow)l And they will also admit that Zzzz isn’t a very good hockey player…Then again, maybe not.

  47. OD99 says:

Bobby why so infatuated with me? Don’t worry, you have no clue about me and you never will based on your reading comprehension skills and focus on 2 players so just rant away, every day on the same things over and over again and feel proud that you are the one-in-a-million who knows everything about hockey and are always correct.

I have come to realize you don’t actually know what “conversation” or “discussion” means. You keep complaining (is there any other way that you communicate? Not that anyone on here has ever seen) about nobody having a discussion but then you do your ramblings, insult everyone and try to make the same tired points you do each day.

You can insult me, ignore my points for discussion outside of Karlsson and Zibanejad (as we have learned – if you actually read posts – we will most likely never completely agree on these players and that is the basis for your attacks every day…attack, attack, attack and hope one of us comes around to your thinking) or whatever makes you happy.

I know you are over-joyed that the Habs came back and won and even more so that Subban would have received an assist on a couple of plays that the puck bounced around (no doubt those are amazing assists and Karlsson’s two assists were luck). I can just see you running to the keyboard to gleefully pound out a little more of, “Karlsson and Zibby are garbage, PK is awesome…blah, blah, blah…”.

Shocker – Huberdeau is having an off year with excuse, A, B and C…Couturier had a good game (finally) so you hold that up as the standard (with the all mighty +/- to back you up)…

So seriously – don’t worry about me and I wont’ worry about you OK? You can attack all you want but this is the last response you get – I am here (less and less) to discuss the Senators as a whole, not a shift by shift basis.

  48. Dan the Man says:

Perhap desperate is the wrong word. Perhaps can’t afford to lose is a better way to phrase my point. Philly is doing another number on Pitt, in Pitt, which supports my theory. Ottawa can’t afford to lose this afternoon, so despite the quick turn around and the massive fatigue that goes with it, put your paycheck on a Sens win over the Avalanche. The flakey Anderson will play a great game.

  49. Bobby Goodman says:

Dave, attack? Damn you are a stubborn man. Zzzz has 26 pts and is minus 12. He is awful in in FO circle, never wins or even engages in one on one battle, doesn’t kill penatlies and sees 14 minutes TOI and you love him. ABC Couturier, finally showed up when the previous Coach was fired. He didn’t play Coururier at all and had him pigeon holed. ABC Couturier has 34 points (8 more than XYZ Zzzzz), is plus 15 better than XYZ Zzzz, he relishes and wins one on one battles and sees 19 minutes on the ice on average….oh yes, he plays agaisnt the best on every team and he kills every penalty. XYZ zzzz doesn not! Couturier finally showed up? That bad….even for you Dave. These numbers will never convince you who might be better because Dave, you are just that stubborn. Hell….you now slam stars that come out of the Q, but celebrate others who failed in the SEL…go figure.

Was I giddy about the Habs winning? Of course not, I predicted it would happen. Was I happy Karlsson was, again, God awful, not at all, I predicted he wouldn’t show up. Was I giddy about Subban performance, of course not, I have often said he shows up when games are playerd hard and it matters.

Atack you, hardly Dave, I am simply pointing out your stubborn ways, in the same way I pointed them out when you had undying support for Daisey the Air Rifle, Rund’sbad, Butler, Pageau, Silfverberg, Da Costa, Stone, Cowen and of course the flashy XYZ Zzzz. You think Subban’s +2 compared to Karly’s -15 is meaningless….PLUS 17 DIFFERENCE IS MEANINGLESS! If nothing else, you are consistentl Dave. The DAC and DAAC’s should stay, the GM is doing a find job, the team shows a lot of promise…..its all good to you Dave. You belive there is no need for change…….I predicted that as well.
