The home of hockey

MONTREAL _ Jason Spezza won’t be in the lineup tonight vs. the Montreal Canadiens. Given the choice, he’d play. It’s not his choice.
The Senators will err on the side on caution. They want to wait and make sure he’s okay. The dumbest argument I constantly hear is that they are better off without him. Look at their record I’m told. Simply not the case.
Spezza is a No. 1 centre in this league. You can criticize his leadership skills. He is still finding his way as captain. He wanted the responsibility and he got it. That means you have to carry the load to go with it.
Spezza is one of the most talented players in the league. Is he struggling? Yup. But those who think this team is better off without him need to give their head a shake. That’s just not the case. They aren’t better without him. Not a chance.
The Senators need him back. They really do. I can understand them wanting to wait. I know there is good chemistry with Mika Zibanejad in the top spot.
Let me know your thoughts.

Did Rocko ask for the C Bruce, or did he say who would like to be Captain (there is a big difference). I think Neil, Philips, Methot and others would like to be Captain but it was the GM who made the call.

The decision made little sense to me, aferall, it’s not like Murray and Rocko were best buds! I said before the season started the Senators marketting team would have to be geniuses to paint Spezza as a leder when they never came him any emotional support for the 10 years he was here! Murray had public fueds with him, he and Annika never came to his defence when he was crucified by the media. Neither did they come to his defence when he was soundly booed in his own barn by his own fans! I am just glad they con’t have an employee calling out “pee nuts”.

Spezza was doomed. Fans wouldn’t give him any credit when he was among the league leaders in scoring and they didn’t recognize his 4th place finish in scoring 2 years ago. But now, after missing last year with a back problem that required surgery and enduring injuries this year, the BLS all pounce! It is interesting that many and even some here, will blame Karly’s bad play on his achilles tendon but Spezza’s back, which is always far more complicated and kept him off skates much longer, is never considered. Why?

I am glad Spezza sits tonight. I wouldn’t have him back at all until he has been deemed 100% healthy by the mecial staff! He has tried to play through pain and it hasn’t worked yet he is still tied for 3rd in team scoring!

I have to say something Bruce, about the Canadian Junior team which got bounced to the Bronze game with Russia. For the many who say “Hokey Canada must know what they are doing” I respond with a loud, not necessarily!!!!! Why select McDavid and then have him sit! Would the OHL’s leading scorer, Connor Brown and his 73 points in 39 games not have helped the team? Why have big slugs who are supposed to be the checkers, take up a spot on the team when skilled kids could do it better. Anderson and Gauthier were awful and they “two” saw limited time. The best checkers were the ones who were the best players!!!!!

Was Dumba a good addition and better choice than Darnel Nurse? Absolutely not! Dumba has skill but he was a defencive nightmare! He was selected because he played for Red Dear!

What about the Coach; how could it be that Canada got bounced with Sutter at the helm???? Sutter selcted his boys as there was no try out perse! He hand picked the team. The hockey club didn’t dominate in any game this tournament! Team Canada didn’t play like a team; Drouin, Dumba, Eckblad and others often played like individuals! The PP stunk! Reinhart is a great big lug but what did he bring besides size and strength!

Do ya think that maybe Bob Nicholson and his good ol boys club of back slappin’ buddies should start considering a new plan? I look at any team in the NHL and the best checkers, by and large, are the best checkers on every team!

  2. PaV says:

Well… Another 2 points. Great game

  3. Mike8888 says:

A very entertaining game. Four in a row and getting closer to a play off spot. Price is playing like he will be the starter for the Canadian team. I think Subban should be on the team as well but after seeing Ryan not make the American team, who knows.

  4. Bobby Goodman says:

The Juniors couldn’t even win a Bronze medal. Do you all remember Hokey Canada telling us that they were going to conduct a full review of the program to make sure they would iron out flaws and “get it right”? NEWS FLASH: THEY DIDN’T

The Sens won last night and wasn’t Condra outstanding? It looks like he might have benefitted by Neil’s injury! I thought he deserved a chance on the 3rd but I wanted him on with Neil and Smith!

There isn’t a word about Karly’s play again. For those who don’t think the media don’t play a role in how fans think need to think twice. You have to wonder at what point a few words will be dedicated to painting an accurate picture of his performance. Last night was supposed to be an opportunity to showcase “two defencemen who have the ability to control the game”; the author was half right. Where as Suckubban was great and dominated when he was on the ice (and in particular on the PP) Karly floundered. We got to see him in full flight, standing still as others scored. Again, he was on the ice for 2 of Montreal’s 3 goals. He didn’t lead a rush until there were only 7 skaters on the ice!

Karly is now minus 12 for the year but it doesn’t really matter, does it. There are now 264 defencemen in the NHL with better plus/minus. Is it time to be concerned at all? How long will management (and fans) forgive him for not even trying?

What I don’t understand is, he continues to get a lots of icetime. Ceci got 14 minutes and he led rushes. He made good passes. He passed it early in a rush rather than carry the puck and force wingers off-side. Methot, after being scolded (metaphorically) is now only -2 from -8 and it is only a coincidence his numbers got significantly better when he wasn’t covering for Karly. Not surprisingly, Cowen was minus 2 last night and he plays with Karly!!!!

Zibanisbad did nothing last night, didn’t carry the puck, wouldn’t go into a corner (little Conacher did however), was behind the play, stood high in the slot looking for a cookie, didn’t create any opportunities and for that he got more PP time than Turris by a full 2 minutes!!!! His 41% in the dots didn’t matter, he started the OT!

Am I the only one who finds it odd?

  5. PaV says:

    Ole ole ole.

Another win against the more talented Habs.

Mike I agree, Price will be the goalie for team Canada.

  6. Bobby Goodman says:

Isn’t it comical that Sutter suggests “Canada is failing at the grass roots level”? He thinks there is too much empasis on winning and not enough on talent!? Yet, when he was in a position to select Canada’s very best, he left the most talented behind!

I have to wonder why oh why select players from all the junior players in Canada only to have them ride the pines! Isn’t this a round about way of calling the selection process and those responsible failures? These are just kids and it isn’t their fault but Anderson and Gauthier are only two who shouldn’t have been on the team.

I wouldn’t expect Sutter to take any responsibility at all, and he didn’t disappoint! But when he as the architect was in a position to select 4 lines of talented kids and confidently roll 4 lines, he made the conscious choice not to.

You can analyze this untilt he cows come home but the problem is clear. Hokey Canada needs to migrate away from their insecurity complex (selecting players who will defend) and choose Canada’s most talented (force the other teams to defend). On the big ice surface speed and skill will always come out in front. If Canada is failing at the grass roots level, who is responsible? After all, Hokey Canada, every year at this time, delivers a very loud message: “we aren’t good enough”! This may be way out there but perhaps Darnel Nurse might have been better than a few of Canada’s defencemen. But how could a 6-4 brilliant skating defenceman who leads all D in scoring in the OHL and described as “best inside his own blueliine” help the hockey club. Perhaps, maybe, Connor Brown could have been a better choice than several kids on Team Canada! But could we seriously think he would be on the team when kids like RNH, Monohan, Toffoli and many others were set adrift?

If Canada wants goal scorers for the Olympic team, why isn’t Skinner in the conversation? In a injury shortened season, he scored his 20th goal last night!!!! If anyone watched him play this year, they would have seen a kid who has the heart of a lion, the agility of gymnast and the hands of a surgeon. The kid is an unbelievable skater and he possesses an extremely high “hockey IQ”….interesting that only skilled players have high hockey IQs. But hey, why would we want the most talented to represent our Country?! Lets leave Suckubban, Benn, Seguin, Skinner and others behind. Why change a formula that has worked…oh…it hasn’t worked………..and it isn’t working.

  7. Mike8888 says:

The Sens have won 4 in a row. Bobby, we understand you will never like Zibby and Karlsson. However, almost everyone else like the way they both play. They’re both young of course and should be even better.

  8. PaV says:

I see now that Subban suggests ref has vendetta against him – the story is posted on the Ottawa Sun website. Classic.

  9. PaV says:

Mike/OD – check out some of the comments – even the Hab fans think Subban is a diver, ducks on hits and is a loud mouth.

  10. Bobby Goodman says:

Even the most loyal of fans have to admit Karly is not getting better. Did you like his game on Saturday versus the Habs MIke? If you did, what in particular did you like afterall he was minus two and on the ice for 2 of the 3 goals scored against them. Did you like his effort that game, afterall, he did stand around and allowed the Habs to score twice. Isn’t it conspicuous that Methot has reduced his +/- to minus 2 since leaving Karlsson as a partner? By the same token, Cowen’s numbers have gotten worse! Ask yourself what it is you like about Karly’s game and I think all you can honestly say is his offence (and he is only offence and all the time he is only offence). Shouldn’t the team be in a better position to win games when he is on the ice? With his minus 2 on Saturday he now trails Spezza by 2 and and Michalek by five with the worst plus/minus on the team! Does he make the PP work (did you see Suckubban on the PP).

I would be more lenient on Karly if he wasn’t so smug but mostly if he made an effort but some reason you and many like you totally accept passive play!

As for Zzzzz, I am not sure what skills he has, that impress you so much. It certainly can’t be his speed, agility, stability. It can’t be his playmaking. It wouldn’t be his courage (tiny Conacher goes into the corners far more…while Zzzz arrives late and plants himself safely in the high slot). It can’t be his stickhandling, he doesn’t carry the puck 15 feet unless the way is totally clear. It can’t be his prowess at the dots, he is in the 40% range.

Tell me something Mikey, would you have him on the ice with a man advantage for 2 more minutes than Turris? Would you start the OT with his 41% and limited skill set over Turris?

I would love to celebrate both these kids but cannot. You may have missed it but I favor those who show up every night, not the ones I am told to like. You may have noticed my posts that clearly identify Karly’s rapid decline. He doesn’t lead rushes as often as he used to. He doesn’t shoot as much as he used to, His passes are off and he give the puck away far more often than anyone else in the entire league and this is something I am supposed to be impressed with? Others have caught and surpassed him in points and that was his only redeeming quality but it doesn’t matter at all if he is not helping the team win games! Does it? The other star Zzzz is minus 7 and he doesn’t help the team win either! If these guys playing for another team, you wouldn’t think twice. you wouldn’t like them. Because they are Senators, they are great!

When I watch a game, I look for the things that make a difference: skating, stickhandling, passing, shooting but also courage and effort. Karly has lot of skill whereas Zzzz doesn’t but both are the only ones guilty of not making an effort but that goes unnoticed. When was the last time Conacher was “the hardest working Sen”, when was he noticed for his physicality.

    Suckubban is a bum…

  11. OD99 says:

Didn’t get a chance to read the column Pav but I did see Subban’s comments after the game on Saturday. Seems odd that he didn’t just step up and take responsibility and seemed like a pretty clear penalty. Perhaps the refs were making sure he got called after they turned a blind eye to him roughing up the big and tough Turris behind the Habs net minutes into the match. I still can’t believe they just let him keep knocking Turris in the head without a call.

PK is a diver and a loud mouth, we don’t need anyone else to back that up, it is fact.

Thought PK actually showed a lot of his warts against the Senators. He had some really brutal turn-overs and took the penalty at the end of regulation that the Senators PP took advantage of.

Oh, and Zibanejad and Karlsson assisted on that MacArthur goal that won the game if I recall correctly? Yes, I do recall correctly.

Zibby, as a 3rd line player with limited ice time now has 19 points in 34 games – a pace that would be good for 24 goals and 46 points in a 82 game season. He is -7 and also has a FO% of 50.4% while playing 14 minutes a night and taking 79 shots.

Not too bad, especially considering he has been on the 4th line a bit, been sat on the bench for long stretches and had multiple line mates. As a 20 year old I won’t complain.

Of course Couturier has 18 points in 42 games and is -1 with 86 shots on 19 1/2 minutes a game while sporting a FO% of 46.7%. I am sure there is a wonderful reason for the discrepancy in stats that I just don’t see but I bet some friendly individual will be happy to educate me.

All that said, I think that Karlsson was flat footed and caught unaware on the second Briere goal…he just didn’t play that well at all. The 3rd goal was a scramble but when you go out of your way to find reasons to complain about a guy I guess you could somehow come to the conclusion that it was all Karlsson’s fault.

Stone looked fantastic out there…two games in a row with limited ice he has looked like he can make plays and very happy for him that he scored his first NHL goal. Maybe a bit lucky but a goal scorers goal just finding the room to get it in the net.

I was hoping that they would give Pageau and Stone a chance with Spezza and keep the other three lines together (Smith is playing his best hockey of his career and that line with Condra and Greening always seem to look good) as they are all doing their jobs quite well but it looks like they might move Smith to Spezza’s wing?

4 in a row and hoping that they can put in a good show in Denver and keep this thing rolling for a while to stay in the hunt. Will be a lot of movement around the Senators this week as they only play twice while the Leafs play 4 times and the Wings 3…plus all the other teams in the chase as well.

  12. Bobby Goodman says:

Oh, I remember when Spezza was minus 9 and the media brought the number to everyone’s attention. Karly is minus 12 and there is no talk at all, which begs the question, when will it be a concern? And, why do Ottawa fans have to wait for the media, shouldn’t they be concerned right now? It is amazing how Karly is celebrated as the best hockey player in the NHL but head to head with Suckubban, he fell flat on his face. You know he had a miserable game when neither paper wrote a singe word. It is the closest he will come to criticism. I am waiting for the day when fans can make the call on their own. I suspect it will never happen.

  13. PaV says:

OD99 – PK doesn’t usually fight but when he does, he fights Kyle Turris. I have to agree that PK tends to be at his worst when he plays the SENS. You do recall, both Z and EK assisted on the winning goal – while the ‘best player on the Habs’ sat in the box. He could have stood up after the game and taken blame for his actions. He would have gained some respect. I get the impression that he isn’t well liked in dressing room. Imagine being a teammate and seeing the guy who lost the game for you blame the refs? Are you kidding me? The SENS are starting to play better – they are far from out of the woods. They need to keep it going tonight and then again in Nashville. Our record vs. Western teams is not very good.

Spez is back in the lineup. Here is hoping he isn’t coming back too soon.

  14. Bobby Goodman says:

Isn’t it fascinating that Dan Boyle is described as one of the bubble boys to be selected for Canada’s olympic hockey team? Does this make an sense what so ever? We are reminded every day that the games will be played on the larger ice surface so speed is a pemium. We are also told every day that this is a tournament, not a season long event so risky players need not apply. Yet, Dan Boyle joins PK Suckubban “on the bubble”.

Boyle is now 37 years of age and he has had a wondeful career but age catches up to everyone. He is great with the bisquite and always has been but as speed is lost with each passing year, stickhandling is less effective. And then you have the numbers. In spite of playing on one of the best teams in the league (currently 5th overall and that will change for the better) he is a minus player. He has 19 points this year which is great but when you add the minus 1 he simply doesn’t cut it; yet he is on the bubble. Suckubban however, has 33 points and is plus 13 and he is “the most polarizing” of all the players and he too is on the bubble and his team has 5 less points and has scored 114 goals while San Jose has scored 142! Oh yes, the Montreal Canadians have allowed 103 goals against while San Jose has allowed 111! Do you think there is something wrong with this picture? Subban has more points, has a far better plus minus, is far more physical, much faster, better shot and 13 years younger but….he is on the bubble? How very silly!

But sillyness abounds! In the other paper today it is reported that Ottawa’s defence, “although hardly perfect, has been sighty more sound”! Do readers really believe this shite? This is probably there version of a literary scolding of Karly’s play.

It looks like Karly has taken the low road again and is not talking to the media. Is this too something Sens fans celebrate (after all, they forgive his admission of lack of effort, his quitting on plays, his “I’m not an effin’ God” and “shit happens” and his ever growing plus minus now -12). It is fascinating that Spezza is a lightning rod for incessant criticism, but a player can announce to the world his team doesn’t stand a chance and another (karly) can do/say what what he has and still be the darling. I don’t get it but as I have said, I am not supposed to.

I wonder if Karly will show up for the game in Colorado. Who knows, all it takes is one hard hit and he is gone baby gone.

I heard Y3 say Zzzz is playing “great” because of his physicality. I don’t know about you guys/girl but to me physicality is getting hit to make a play as well as following someone into a corner and then laying them out in an appologetic manner. Lets all count how many times Zzzzz beats the opposition to the puck in the offensive zone (hell, anywhere). And, lets keep track how many times the diminutive but couragous Conacher beats the opposition to the puck in a corner! That’s what physical play is all about!

  15. Bobby Goodman says:

The Olympic Team selection never conforms to any real standard. The team is supposed to be fast but they select slow players. The team is supposed to be responsible but they have players who fall in the minus column.

As far as I am concerned, as much as I like Patrice Bergeron, his 25 points and lack of speed doesn’t cut it. His game, like others who are on the team by default, have games best suited to the smaller ice surface. I would take Seguin and Jamie Benn over Bergeron. Both are extremely fast and on the huge ice surface, they would bring far more than winning face offs. I would also take Jumbo Thornton, his 6-4 frame and 48 points over Bergeron! If the speed is a saw off (and I still give the edge to Joe) Thornton brings so much more! Stevenson writes that “scoring is an issue” but 99% of the time a goal is scored because someone got them the puck!!!!! Hell, Jumbo is going to help make Burns a 25 goal scorer! But, Bergeron is on the team! Speed is not necessary for some players. Perry can not be described as quick. Getzlaf isn’t quick. But they are on the team no matter what. PK is on the bubble but the slow Seabrook is a lock (he is very good but benefits greatly by playing alonside Keith). Eric Staal with probably be on the team and I would take Benn and Seguin over him! Marc and Jordan are always in the mix and I don’t know why!!! Taylor Hall has 41 points playing on a crappy hockey club but he wont be there, niether will Skinner (who can also play center) with his 33 points in 32 games and minus 2 versus Eric Stall and his 35 pts in 42 games and minus 15! Shea Webber has 27 points and is minus 13 but he is a lock as well! Stamkos shouldn’t even be in the conversation; I love the kid but he is coming back from a broken leg!!!! Duchene is another who is young, extremely fast with enormous talent who stars on the smaller ice surface in the NHL and would do wonders on the large olympic size rinks!

Mr. Happy will tell everone what the criteria is and then change them when it suits his fancy. He had Morrow on the team in Vancouver.

There is so much silly bugger that goes on it is enough to make your head spin. It is the same stuff that goes on with the Juniors. I will say that there is a very good possibility that St Louis will be on the team, afterall, it will be his last go around!

If a dumb bastard like myself could make the call before the WJHC that the Canadian team wouldn’t compete, what does it say for those whose job is H O C K E Y!!!!!!!!!! Isn’t it time we got some in management with high Hockey IQs? Isn’t it time to move beyond the same tired old clique of familiar faces! Isn’t it time to have only one single minded agenda: put the best team of players on the ice that puts maximizes Canada’s chance to win Gold (to me, Silver and Bronze don’t even matter).

  16. Bobby Goodman says:

Lets try to be a ittle bit honest here, I know it is a forum for the BLMs to congregate but lets call a spade a spade please.

I suppose Dave, you are quite happy with Karly’s play and he looked far better than Suckubban on Saturday? Seriously. Was Suckubban minus 2, was he minus 1? Did Suckubban make the PP effective…what about Karly? Is Suckubban minus 12? is it better to blurt out “I’m not an Effen God” and “Shit happens”? Is this taking responsibility Dave? What about avoiding the media, is this something you condone? You are much better than that…aren’t you?

As for Zzzzz, do you still think he “has a powerful stride”? Is he agile? Do you think he wants the puck? Can he beat anyone or a pylon one on one? Does he win one-on-one battles? Does he go into the corner or does he leave that work (like Karly) for others (Conacher and Michalek). Lets count how many times he beats the opposition to the puck on Thursday night in the game against Colorado…shall we.

As for this numbers, there are good but he as been given every opportunity to to put up only positive numbers! He NEVER kill penalties. He NEVER plays against the other teams best! He continues to get a lot of icetime with the man advantage and on ocasion, even more than Turris, Ryan and MaArthur! Indeed he got an assist in the OT against the Habs and wasn’t it a beauty. Would you have put him on he ice instead of Ryan (the teams leading goals scorer) and Turris (the teams 3rd leading scorer)? Weren’t Karly and Zzzz fantastic with only 3 habs to contend with and their best player in the box? It was afterall, the only time I saw Karly willing to carry the puck all game!

Zzzz gets all the easyt assignments. Indeed he has 19 points but 7 of them are gifts with the man advantage. So, he has 12 points at even strength and is minus 7! With nothing but easy assignments, I wouldn’t quite call tyhat celbratory numbers, would you? On a bad hockey club, Couturier kills ever penalty and I suspect it isn’t because he is bad at it or that he is awful at the face off circle! On the PP he actually makes things happen by HANDLING THE PUCK not dishing it off as soon as it is on his stick! He plays against every other teams very best players so his assignment is to cover them and in spite of that, he is only minus 1!!!! Zzzzz doesn’t get the tough assignments, only the easy ones and he is still MINUS 7!!!!! The Sens don’t trust him to kill penalties because he can’t. The Sens would never have him up against the other teams very best, because he can’t. But, he will get every opportunity to be successful with all the easy assignments. You have to look at the entire picture Dave (but I suspect you kow that already. Only a Fool woulnd’t consider the facts.

As for Karly, wasn’t he good with only 3 Hab skaters. He has 18 Power Play Points (PPP). That means he has 20 points at even strength which make his minus 12 that much more alarming! But I suspect you know that too!

  17. OD99 says:

How the Senators have managed to have the two worst players in the world on their team is beyond me.

I don’t understand how players so terrible could even be drafted let alone find their way on to the same team…I suspect it is Murray and his family’s fault plus all the other people who work for him that are to blame.

If only all of our players were like Spezza – he is big and physical and knows his way around his own end. His -14 is a testament to how horrible all the players are that end up on the ice are when he is on the ice too. If it wasn’t for all the brutal players he is forced to play with he would be leading the league in scoring and be a +55 (at least!!!!) by now.

Everyone should play like Spezza. Hit hard with courage and heart and play amazing defence each shift. Don’t ever give the puck away and don’t ever be the reason for a goal. If we had a team of Spezza’s we probably wouldn’t ever give up a goal because he plays hockey the right way. With courage and heart and very, very physical. Each shift he is putting someone through the boards or taking a big hit himself to make a play. Too bad that play is to a horrible hockey player (just pick one!!!!!) who everyone loves because Bruce told them to.

Canada will lose the gold medal because they don’t have a team of Spezza’s and PK Subban’s. Can you imagine a team like that? They would be unstoppable and would win each game at least 10-0, probably by a lot more.

I am not hard to please so just start by getting rid of all the terrible players on our team that couldn’t have even played with my senior team (you know who they are!!!!!) and I promise that the Senators will start to play like champions because they aren’t all following the lead of two guys who are just awful and terrible and don’t play hockey very well at all.

  18. Bobby Goodman says:

When you have nothing, default to the absurd. It speaks volumes Dave.

Spezza is a point per game player over the course of his career. He is a plus player over the course of his career. He has been hurt by being hurt, so join the gazillion members of the Blind Lemming Society and pounce. You must have been one of the giddy ones to call out Spezza early this year. And I am sure your enthusiasm grows as the numbers Anti-Spezzite members grow. I thought you were better but it goes to show you how wrong someone can be.

I am up for a discussion and will make predictions, it is conspicuos that you never do. You, like your many friends wait for subliminal instructions and then make your opinions be known. You must be so very proud.

I happen to like 10 players with the Ottawa Senators Davey-boy! So I am only half negative (or half positive). Dont’ you find it all too obvious that Zzzz gets all the easy assignments; you are unwilling to comment on that reality. Weren’t you at all curious that 3 forwards from different lines all started in OT? Would you have selected Zzzz and Stone? Do you care to guess how many times he will beat the opposition to the puck on Thursday night? How many faceoffs he will win, how many shots, how many times he carries the puck longer than 15 feet.

Spezza is minus 14 playing with Michalek who is minus 17. Methot was minus 8 with your darling Karly, but now he is minus 2….why do you think that is Dave? Is injured Spezza’s -14 with Milan so much worse than Karly’s minus 12?

Canada should win Gold with 2 different teams Dave; I just want them to smoke the competition with their best. You didn’t have much to say about the Juniors…safe and…..expected. I suppose you liked the team that represented out Country (if so, why?). I suppose you think Sutter whith his constant scowl is motivating. I suppose you think if a player makes a mistake he should sit for long periods of time! Perhaps you are waiting for instructions before commenting.

You have yet to even comment on the Olympic team Dave; am I to assume that I am wrong with my “opinions” there as well? It must be terrible to live in a world where you need validation from Fool(s). I was expected an inteligent response from you about:

    - Karly’s comments
    - karly’s unwillingness to take responsibility
    - Karly’s minus 12 at even strength
    - Zzzz physicality (or lack there of)
    - Zzzz PP time, no PK time and easy assignments
    - Zzzz’s -7 at even strength (with only easy assignments)

I expected too much I guess. If you were a secure man, you would concede Suckubban played much better than Karly on Saturday…but you can’t and you wont. You would acknowledge his plus 14 is a wee bit better than Karly’s minus 12. You would also concede that he plays his game every night no matter who is in town. He doesn’t select his targets (did you see him nail Neal last year?).

I hope against hope you will find your own voice Dave.

  19. Bobby Goodman says:

Oh, “how the Senators managed to have the 2 worst players in the world on their team” shouldn’t be beyond you Dave. In all the years that the Murrays have been here, who have been the stars (legitimate stars not the ones only celebrated locally). And, they aren’t the worst, in fact, I have said often (write this down) Karly is very gifted but doesn’t give a damn if he team wins or loses and he focusses on his stats only. I have also said he never shows up for the tough games and that the Sens will never win anything of significance with him in the lineup. Sound familiar. Zzzz is a bum though and he is a bum who is a pretender. You are told he is great, therefor, he is great! In reality, the team (Murrays) need someone else they drafted to celebrate (all the others have not lived up to the advanced billing).

Bobby what is the use of attempting a discussion with you again? You don’t seem to ever read what I write – you find a couple words and then translate them into whatever message you want. As I said I don’t know if it is your comprehension of if you just have a terrible memory or what but you believe what you want to believe despite what anyone on here writes.

You comment about having nothing and defaulting to the absurd is most appropriate coming from you because you it is you and only you who is the broken record here and that goes for your daily (many times multiple times a day) rants on Karlsson and Zibanejad and then your really old reliable comment about lemmings and nobody else having their own mind, etc…

I shouldn’t be shocked anymore, you have been trying to sound superior for years on here now but every time you don’t like what someone has to say you go back to stating YOU are right and the rest of us are essentially stupid, or fools or mindless or whatever. You are very insulting and condescending in almost all of your posts and you NEVER actually engage in conversation – you just start throwing out insults. The next time you reply and have a discussion will be the first.

As for not posting as quickly as you like or about the subjects you may want me to – I have a busy life with a job that requires me to travel and two young kids at home, pretty sure I have my priorities where they belong.

Bobby, this is a test. If you actually read and absorb what I am writing I will expect a proper, mature reply to this post. Show me you aren’t just an old windbag. Prove to me that I should actually engage with you by having a rational response. No childish name calling, no putting words in my mouth or thoughts in my head – just a civil reply.

Bobby your reliance on the +/- stat is absurd – most hockey people realize it is an outdated and ineffective way to truly understand a players defensive shortcomings. And by the way, +/- doesn’t include PP or PK numbers. I believe you like to pick and choose your stats to support your argument. Even then you are prone to colouring the stat (Zibby has more points than Couturier? It’s because he gets all the best PP time…etc…for the record Zibby gets 40 seconds more PP time a game than Couts) so it seems when you decide something, there is nothing that will change it because you will say the sky is green and the grass is blue to fit your agenda.

As for Zibby not facing tough competition, what does killing penalties have to do with anything? Your golden boy never killed penalties until very recently and his last attempt was horrible with a glaring give-away that led to the tying goal in the closing seconds of a game the Senators would go on to LOSE. Tell me, do you pick a player 6th overall because he can kill penalties? We have Condra, Smith, Greening, Pageau, Michalek to kill penalties. So please explain why it is so important to you that Zibby kills penalties at 20 years old?

Yes he beats people to pucks and he has proven to be pretty good against the boards so far. He can beat a player one-on-one with speed to the outside but not many dance through guys in today’s game so if that is your standard you must not like most forwards. I know you are a fan of the slow toe-drag that works once every 500 times but I have grown tired of it.

As for the juniors I go back to that whole comprehension thing again…I stated that I thought the Canadians would play in the Bronze game and beat the US with Sweden playing Russia in the gold game. Got half of them right. You said Canada would finish 5th so we split the difference and we are both wrong.

I don’t understand where your comments about Sutter’s scowl and benchings are coming from other than once again you trying to tell my what I believe? His scowl is irrelevant to me (much like the 3 stars after a game) and no I don’t think a player should be benched for a bad play.

Olympic team has some holes in it for me. I don’t like Carter being there over St. Louis and I Marleau could have been replaced by Seguin but it is a tough spot to be in…the St. Louis omission is most glaring for me.

Weber is easily a Canadian Olympian.

Not sure what Karlsson comments you are talking about but I don’t like that he doesn’t take responsibility and seems to shrug off some mistakes. The +/- isn’t good but will get better as the team plays better…
