Pacific Rim: New trailer promises oodles of action

Santa has been bringing action geeks plenty of treats over the last week. In the past seven days, we’ve seen new trailers for Star Trek Into Darkness, Man of Steel, The Lone Ranger, Oblivion and G.I. Joe Retaliation.

Now comes the first full-length trailer for Guillermo del Toro’s Pacific Rim. And from the looks of it, the sci-fi/action bonanza could be epic.

If you don’t already know, the Toronto-shot film is del Toro’s homage to Japanese ‘kaiju’ monster movies – you know, Godzilla, Cloverfield?

But unlike previous “Monsters versus Humans” movies, this time around we’re going to suit up Transformer-style to do battle with the creatures from the deep.

The action looks stellar, and the trailer provides the best line of any movie due next year: “Armageddon is cancelled” (courtesy of Idris Elba). By the looks of this, Supes, Kirk and Spock just might have their work cut out for them.

Check out the trailer and let us know if you think this will be the action event of next summer in the comments below.

Pacific Rim is due July 12, 2013.
