Is the ‘Justice League’ movie toast?

If you’re a DC fan, you’ve no doubt been stewing as Marvel has seemingly ruled the cinematic landscape when it comes to superhero films.

Sure, Chris Nolan’s Batman movies were a critical and financial success, but The Green Lantern and 2006′s Superman Returns both underperformed.

With the Man of Steel reboot on the way, though, word was DC Comics was planning to use that film as a launch pad for a Justice League movie in 2015. You’ll remember, Marvel did something similar with Iron Man in 2008 that paved the way for The Avengers in 2012.

Director Zack Snyder confirmed as much in an interview with the New York Post last fall. When he was asked if his Superman film would be part of a larger Justice League movie, he answered: “I can’t really say anything to that, because that’s a big spoiler. I will say, yeah, they trust me to keep them on course.”

Well after all this, Badass Digest is reporting that Will Beall’s script for Justice League has been axed with execs looking to hire new writers.

To make matters worse, renowned comics scribe Mark Millar (Kick-Ass, Wanted, Civil War) trashed the prospect of a JLA film in an interview with SciFi Now.

“The actual logistics of each member of the Justice League is disastrous,” he said. “You put them all together and I think you get an excellent way of losing $200 million.”

This isn’t the first time DC has eyed bringing the JLA to the big screen. In 2007, George Miller (Mad Max) had Justice League: Mortal ready to go with Armie Hammer as Batman, Adam Brody as The Flash, D.J. Cotrona as Superman and Megan Gale as Wonder Woman. That film was shelved in 2008.

If Man of Steel is a huge success, then a JLA movie could be fast-tracked. But if you were looking to pencil in a date on your 2015 calendar, don’t hold your breath.

With this latest news, do you think it’s likely we’ll ever see a Justice League movie? Let us know in the comments.

I think as long as you have people like Bruce Timm working in the background you will never see a JLA movie….Bruce Timm was responsible for killing the Justice League/Unlimited series and Teen Titans on TV, both were widely popular and had a huge fan base and had top ratings…he killed both of them to do other failed projects….he was great when BATS was in production but other than that….he is really bad news for any JLA movie…he may not be the main producer, writer etc…but as long as he has any influence…and he does…nothing will be done right!

If they do have a JLA movie…I hope they keep it to its core and include Hawkgirl

I don’t know what you’re talking about – JLA has loads of potential, and as long as they let the director direct (something they didn’t do in Green Lantern) and have a solid script it’ll do very well indeed.
