Boba Fett spinoff on the way?

- January 8th, 2014

When Disney announced it was purchasing LucasFilm and was planning a new Star Wars trilogy, they also surprised everyone with news that they intended to make various spinoff films.

While no specific characters were confirmed, the popular assumption pointed to stories involving the bounty hunter Boba Fett, a young Han Solo or Jedi Master Yoda.

As you’ll remember, The Attack of the Clones prequel showed Fett as a young boy, who watched his father Jango Fett get decapitated by Mace Windu (Samuel L. Jackson). But the famous bounty hunter Boba Fett didn’t appear again until The Empire Strikes Back (the character showed up in The Clone Wars series and was digitally added to a revised version of A New Hope). His origins – at least in the official film canon – were never dealt with.

That now appears to be over with a solo Boba Fett film reportedly in the works.

In a recent AMC Movie Talk, director Jon Schnepp (Metalocalypse) confirmed that Empire Strikes Back scribe Lawrence Kasdan is writing the solo Fett movie. “One of them is Boba Fett,” Schnepp said discussing the Star Wars spinoff movies. “It is. I know. I know for a fact. I will never reveal my source, but it is the one written by Lawrence Kasdan.”

Last year, EW speculated that a solo Fett film would take place either between A New Hope and Empire, or between Empire and Jedi.

Of course, nothing is official until Disney confirms it. But I for one am intrigued with the idea of a stand-alone Fett adventure.

Star Wars: Episode VII will begin filming this spring for release Dec. 18, 2015. Are you happy with the idea of a Fett spinoff? Sound off in the comments.

Boboa Fett is the onlt stand alone character worthy of his own francvhise, for the fact his appearance was never shown in the original series. A young Han Solo franchise would ridiculous, as Han not being played by Harrison Ford is blasphemy, just as “The Road Warrior” not being played by Mel Gibson…..though I don’t mind Tom Hardy with all due respect.

The problem with having a Han Solo franchise is the current state of Hollywood….the focus is too much on getting some pre-teen in a starring role without sifficient enough experience, and throw him in there with a young female co-star (a la a Kristen Stewart-esque actress) with the same issue being lack of talent; it’s all about who can we throw in there for eye candy….Star Wars has always been a focus on the storyline first and the love story/eye candy 2nd…..Hollywood’s attempt at recreating magic from 2-3 decades ago for other films is putting too much emphasis on younger audiences who care for nothing more than special effects and wattered down storylines with bad actors/actresses……..I can see them now trying to get Chris Hemsworth (or whatever his name is….the dude who played Thor) to play Han and it’d be a joke…..if a story is going to be done about Boboa Phett or Han, then do it the right way.

Oh I was referring to the “original” trilogy regarding the love story-arch being 2ndary, as opposed to the “new” trilogy, which has its own reputation of being garbage by many traditionalists, though for the record I did like the inclusion of Darth Maul, and “Return of the Sith” wasn’t too bad…..but I do wish Jenga Fett had more camera time.

I think a story line built around Jabba and the Hutt clan would be awesome… there are so many characters that could be explored there, good ugly storytelliing… maybe even make Star Wars into a horror spin off!
