‘Fast & Furious 7′ scribe working on exit for Paul Walker’s character

- December 11th, 2013

Since Paul Walker’s death last month, fans of the Fast & Furious films have wondered how filmmakers will proceed on the shooting of Fast 7.

Walker, who played one of the series two leading stars, had only finished half his scenes when he was killed in a fiery crash Nov. 30.

We now have some indication on how Universal plans to proceed with the film. According to The Hollywood Reporter, screenwriter Chris Morgan will attempt to rework the script to use the scenes that Walker already shot and “retire” his character, Brian O’Conner, from the series.

Following his death, Universal and director James Wan had to wrestle with writing Walker’s character out of the seventh movie and starting from scratch, recasting his role with another actor, abandoning the film entirely or using the footage he had shot, and writing him out of the final product.

Producers on the Fast & Furious series were already eying Fast 8, with 9 and 10 probable. So O’Conner will need to be killed, imprisoned or left ambiguously on the run from the authorities.

James Wan told TMZ over the weekend that the film will not be scrapped.

THR reports that if Morgan is successful in crafting a workable solution, the film will resume shooting in January, but it is unlikely that Fast 7 will make its scheduled July 11, 2014, release date.

Fast & Furious 6 is out on DVD this week and a leaked extra shows an eerie scene from the seventh film in which O’Conner promises “one more funeral.”

Fast 7 also stars Vin Diesel, Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson, Michelle Rodriguez, Jordana Brewster, Tyrese Gibson, Ludacris, Kurt Russell, Djimon Hounsou and Tokyo Drift’s Lucas Black.

So, how do you think Brian O’Conner should be written out of the Fast & Furious franchise? Sound off in the comments below.

I feel out of respect to him and his character since he has played Brain since the start of the series, they should Kill his character in an explosion…. You will be missed Paul Walker :’(

No one can “replace” Brian O’Connor in these movies… Please do not make any other person Brian O’Connor!!!! You cannot replace Paul Walker….Not even in the movies!
Maybe giving the rest of the world the opportunity to grieve…. O’Connor dies in the movie (late in the movie, if possible) and maybe a ” younger O’Connor brother ” is introduced for 8.
Please respect Paul Walker and the “core values – family” of fast movies – no one person was “it”.

The movies were great because they were family.

Ian Shaw takes out Brian and Brian’s son Jack should become old enough to “ride or die” with uncle Dom

I feel that lucas black should be in the car with paul walker (both windows down)and then ian shaw slams into the car then lucas black is thrown from the car and brian is not thrown out then when the car lands ian shaw hits paul walker again and hits him over the bridge while in the car

WARNING: you may throw up from this! Rumor has it that Justin Bieber is being eyed to take over as Brian O’Connor to finish up F&F 7.

There’s no way in hell Bieber will take his spot. All the stuff that people are saying about it is bull shit.

as a memorial way of writing Brian out i feel they should kill Brain off in a car crash and make it as if when he said theres only “one more funeral” he ment the bad guys but it turns out to be him and the bad guy Paul was one of the best actors and one of my favorites it was really heart breaking to hear that he has died i send my condolences to his family and wish them a merry christmas and happy new year, i am very sorry for your loss…and DO NOT!!! try to replace him NO ONE CAN!!!

What about Having walkers character and his girl leave the movie to hideout from statham revenge plot to protect the kid . Then if they make a part 8 cast Liam hemsworth to replace him they kind of look similar.

Aight bro this is what has to happen (my opinion) is that Jason statham kills Brian during the end of fast six right so they mention that as the begging of fast7 ok and dom and the gang go on a emotional raging rampage to try and kill the guy who killed Brian then they can end the series if they want but make it a two part movie because it’s gunna take a while to explain everything

Oops I put begging instead of beginning my bad

just kill him off so that the team can honor him and it written into the future f&f easily and cut writers a break.

What’s with you people? How does it “honor” Walker to not only kill off his character in the franchise and Universe he clearly loved, but do it with a fiery crash/explosion on top of it? I’m sure he’d want his family and friends relieving the moment through his character’s similar gruesome death. I rather think he’d want to see his character live on with a happy ending for him and his family. Not to say his part should be recast, but rather they write him off any number of ways. He already seemed much less prominent in 6 and they have plenty of characters to fill the Gap. Personally I’m looking forward to the inclusion of Lucas Black and would like to see his character get a lot of screen-time.

I’m not the type that always hopes for a happy ending, and sometimes the tragic or noble deaths of characters is necessary, but they’re not painted into a corner here. The character should live on through the future sequels, if only in reference.

I have one Idea. Have Ian kill Brian like he killed Han. In the name of revenge. Lucas black character turns out that he is related to oconners character. His dad was a naval officer so he has Intel on how to get Ian .make Paul Walkers character his uncle or something.so he would want to get revenge for the death of his uncle and his best friend.

I have a great idea that universal studios can use and it will be an excellent way to let him go in an a good but sad emotional way.

  17. Zel | December 16, 2013 at 12:36 am

Brian will be killed by Ian, and another male character related to Brian (brother, cousin or best friend) will join the F&F team to get back at Ian…actor for the male character can be someone who looks a bit like Paul Walker (e.g. Joshua Jackson, Josh Duhamel, Shane West).

I don’t think it needs that much detail, but I think if a crash were to happen with blacks character in the car and he took over as a revenge figure ornsomething it’d be a good way to repay respect to the series and Paul. FF is Paul walker he loved it.

*avenger figure. He’s already that for Han May as well add Brian ?

  20. carlos | December 16, 2013 at 7:44 am

I think they should make cody walker(paul walkers younger brother) take over and play the role for the remaining movies. Paul walker will surely love that. For his younger brother to play his role in the movie. Yeah its not gonna be paul but hey paul would have wanted that. Dont just cut him out because thats not fair.

In the extended clip at the end of FF6, it is mentioned that they are being snuffed out one at a time.Hunted. Brians’s death would be the ultimate kill with eyes on Dom next. Hobbs is down, but not out and the team is now definitely suffering. Mia goes home to grieve and the rest of the team find themselves injured or having close calls just to rouse Dom. Just when it seems that Shaw has the last say, a new team,(much younger) steps in at different points of the movie to help save the day and eventually wipe out Shaw. Their faces are revealed in the end when Vin can throw out one of his one liners and we can roll on. This series is in need of a reboot anyway. The ENTIRE cast is looking too old and haggard these days, Paul Walker included. This is a good time to bring in new blood. RIP Paul You will be missed! From the womb to the grave you were an angel the entire way.See you on the other side!
