‘Man of Steel’ getting 3-D makeover

So after much haggling, it appears next summer’s Superman reboot will be released in 3-D after all.

Batman director, Christopher Nolan, who is producing the upcoming Man of Steel, resisted shooting this month’s Dark Knight Rises in 3-D, opting instead to film some of the sequences in IMAX.

But according to a report on Bleeding Cool, Supe’s second kick at the can in seven years will be converted to 3-D. If you’re feeling nostalgic, you can see a preview for the 2006 version here.

Director Zack Snyder chose not to go the 3-D route with last year’s Sucker Punch, and his 2009 film adaptation of the Watchmen comic book.

The film will also be converted for IMAX screens. A press release that was leaked on IMAX’s site, and has since been taken down, reveals some of the plot details.

“In the pantheon of superheroes, Superman is the most recognized and revered character of all time. Clark Kent/Kal-El (Henry Cavill) is a young twenty-something journalist who feels alienated by powers beyond his imagination. Transported years ago to Earth from Krypton, a highly advanced, distant planet, Clark struggles with the ultimate question ‘Why am I here?’ Shaped by the values of his adoptive parents Martha (Diane Lane) and Jonathan Kent (Kevin Costner), Clark discovers having extraordinary abilities means making difficult decisions. When the world is in dire need of stability, an even greater threat emerges. Clark must become a Man of Steel, to protect the people he loves and shine as the world’s beacon of hope – Superman.

The IMAX release of Man of Steel will be digitally re-mastered into the image and sound quality of The IMAX Experience® with proprietary IMAX DMR® (Digital Re-mastering) technology. The crystal-clear images coupled with IMAX’s customized theatre geometry and powerful digital audio create a unique environment that will make audiences feel as if they are in the movie.”

In more Man of Steel news, Comicbookmovie.com reports that the movie may feature cameos from other heroes in the DC Comics universe.

After Marvel’s domination with The Avengers, it will be interesting to see if DC can successfully launch their own team-up franchise.

Man of Steel hits theatres on June 14, 2013, and stars Henry Cavill, Amy Adams, Kevin Costner, Diane Lane, Michael Shannon, Russell Crowe, Laurence Fishburne and Christopher Meloni.

It’s about time! Superman is the ultimate superhero and closest to my heart. I was disappointed with how the 2006 version flopped so am very excited for the upcoming re-boot. Hopefully this one will get a better reception.
