‘Man of Steel’ will hint at ‘Justice League’ film

After being deliberately vague about the Man of Steel’s connection to a proposed Justice League film, Zack Snyder, the director of next summer’s Superman reboot, has finally confirmed there will be definite ties between his feature and an in-the-works DC Comics mashup.

Just like how Iron Man was the first in a long line of Marvel adaptations that culminated in this past summer’s Avengers, Snyder says Warner Bros. expects him to “keep them on course” for a Justice League movie that is tentatively scheduled for sometime in 2015.

Speaking to the New York Post, Synder says: “I don’t know how Justice League is going to be handled. Honestly, I don’t. But The Man of Steel exists, and Superman is in it. I don’t know how you’d move forward without acknowledging that.”

Aside from Christopher Nolan’s Batman films, which wrapped with this summer’s The Dark Knight Rises, DC hasn’t exactly set the box office on fire. There was 2011′s Green Lantern, which was a critical and financial disaster. And Bryan Singer’s last attempt to reboot Superman in 2006 did not live up to Warner Bros’ lofty expectations.

So there’s a lot riding on Man of Steel, which stars Henry Cavill as the man in blue.

Last week, Snyder has told MTV News that a new trailer for Man of Steel will debut before The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, when it opens on Dec. 14.

“It just feels like a fun Christmas thing to do, drag the whole family out for that action,” Snyder told the network.

Man of Steel will be released June 14, 2013.

Do you think DC can catch up with Marvel in the film adaptation department? Let us know in the comments.

Of course DC can match the Marvel efforts, but they need to follow the formula that worked for Marvel: bring your “A” products, bring in your best writers (DC has ‘em – look what they’re doing with “The New 52″), and don’t let the “suits” into the editing suites.
Green Lantern can be saved. It just remains who they recruit to fill the roles of Wonder Woman, Flash and Aquaman.
Keep out the cheese, go for the best of the character histories, and the fans will come.

David Young is 100% right. DC’s characters are far more iconic than Marve’s (nothing against Marvel), so there’s no reason they can’t duplicate the success. It boils down to quality of story, directing, acting…

I think it makes sense for Man of Steel to be the launch pad for a Justice League film. I’m hoping that this film will not only introduce whoever will take on the role of Batman, but will also give Ryan Reynolds a second chance as Green Lantern. Not only that, but it should also give Adrianne Palicki an opportunity to play Wonder Woman, since the tv series was rejected before having a chance to air.

I have waited a long time for this, I believe it can be done, and done with more intensity and power than anything Marvel has put out. They would need to make sure to include The Trinity (for those who dont know are Batman, Superman and Wonder Woman) Green Arrow, Vixen, Hawkgirl and Cyborg to make it real and to make it a true JL movie.

I agree with David, leave the suits out of the production and bring in some of DC comics top writers….and please, please do NOT include Bruce Timm in any of the production! He killed the Justice League/Justice League Unlimited series with was number one at the time, he has made some really bad choices for DC characters.

I’m still waiting for the Wonder Twins movie. With a little blue paint, I think Justin Bieber would make a believable Gleek.
