Johnny Depp fans rejoice. After years spent in development hell, we’re finally getting a look at next summer’s The Lone Ranger.
Disney stoked anticipation for the movie with its release of several high-res images from the film, a teaser poster and (what you’ve really been waiting for) a trailer. Following the familiar Jerry Bruckheimer logo, we’re treated to some slick action courtesy of director Gore Verbinski. With the advent of the railroad, it seems all sorts of baddies have emerged hijacking trains and such.
Tom Wilkinson’s narration doesn’t tell us much of what the film is going to be about. But we do hear a heavily accented Johnny Depp (who plays the Native spirit warrior Tonto) spurring on Armie Hammer’s Lone Ranger when he says, “There come a time Kimosabe, when good men must wear mask.”
The Lone Ranger has been an on-again-off-again film for years. The film was shelved in 2005 and again in 2011 before being green-lit last fall. But even though Johnny and horses might not mix (his 2000 film The Man Who Killed Don Quixote was never completed and Dead Man was DOA), the action looks great. And, hey, anytime Depp and Helena Bonham Carter get together it’s can’t-miss right?
The Lone Ranger will be released July 3, 2013. Check out the trailer below and let us know your thoughts in the comments below.
