It’s official: RDJ is staying put as Iron Man.

Marvel has announced that Robert Downey Jr. has signed on to reprise his role as Iron Man in The Avengers 2 and 3.

While we already knew that The Avengers 2 is coming May 1, 2015, the news about Avengers 3 comes as a bit of a surprise. And a welcome one at that.

It was expected that RDJ would return for the Avengers sequel, with director Joss Whedon telling The Daily Beast he wouldn’t make the film without him.

The actor himself even said, “I like being a company man.”

Marvel promised more casting news soon, adding that Avengers 2 starts production in March 2014.

Absent from today’s news was any info on whether RDJ will return for Iron Man 4. With the third instalment the most successful at the box office, I’m sure Marvel will want to see him back in his own stand-alone feature.

What do you think? Are you happy that he’s back for Avengers 2 and 3? Do you hope this means Iron Man 4 is in the works? Let us know your thoughts in the comments.

Robert Downey is the archtypical Tony Stark! The roll was made for him! Whoever cast him couldn’t have made a better choice. He restructured the role of Sherlock Holmes and made it his own but Tony Stark was made for him it couldn’t be a better fit!
