‘GI Joe Retaliation’ gets a trailer makeover

In case you don’t remember, G.I. Joe: Retaliation was supposed to be one of the big movie releases for summer 2012.

There were posters of Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson (who plays Roadblock) and Channing Tatum (Duke) on the sides of malls, and Bruce Willis was on the cover of Esquire. But then Paramount yanked the film from its release schedule saying it wanted to convert the film to 3D and add more scenes with Tatum.

Did filmmakers get cold feet following such high-profile bombs as John Carter and Battleship? Maybe. But director Jon M. Chu had the $125-million movie pretty much in the can, so, all Paramount could do was increase their bet.

Now, with the film firmly committed to a March 29, 2013, release date, we’re getting a new trailer which mixes some old scenes with new ones. The plot seems the same though: The Joes get attacked and there’s a presidential imposter planning Armageddon.

Tatum’s Duke character gets more screen time in the new trailer, Willis has some additional quips and London (as in England) gets blown up real good.

The action sequences seem like they’re going to be well choreographed, so if that’s your bag, this should do the trick. At least until Iron Man 3 comes along the following month.
