After hinting for weeks that he’s got a role in one of Marvel’s upcoming movies, Vin Diesel may have confirmed which character he’s playing in a post on his Facebook page.
As Badass Digital first pointed out, Diesel posted a photo of Guardians of the Galaxy member, Groot, late Sunday night.
Deadline later confirmed that the actor is in talks for the role in the James Gunn-directed film, which is part of Marvel’s Phase Two.
Diesel didn’t offer any commentary, just the picture, which was changed an hour later.
Last month, Diesel announced that he had a meeting with Marvel. He later posted a photo on Facebook of himself standing in front of an Avengers comic book poster. “Marvel meeting today,” Diesel wrote. “Only the people in the room can tell you what was discussed.”
Following that, movie fans speculated that Diesel could be appearing in GOTG and The Avengers 2 as the villainous Thanos. There were also rumours that he was being eyed to play ’60s-era hero The Vision or possibly the lead in Edgar Wright’s Ant-Man.
But these latest tidbits pretty much guarantee that Diesel will be voicing a CG character in GOTG, which also stars Chris Pratt, Benicio del Toro, Zoe Saldana and Glenn Close.
Groot made his debut in 1960 in Tales to Astonish #13. The character originally came to Earth to capture humans, before he turned good and joined the Guardians of the Galaxy.
Diesel’s upcoming Pitch Black sequel, Riddick, is out next month, and filming on Fast 7 begins soon with James Wan taking over the directing duties.
What do you think? Are you happy with Diesel possibly being Groot, or should he be playing a non-CG role? Let us know your thoughts in the comments.
Guardians of the Galaxy is slated to hit theatres Aug. 1, 2014.
