RoboCop trailer hits the web

- September 6th, 2013

We’re getting our first look at the trailer for the remake of RoboCop. And upon first viewing, I’m not convinced the movie needed a remade, but when it hits theatres February 7th, 2014, I’m sure I’ll be one of the first in line.

Joel Kinnaman (The Killing) stars as police officer Alex James Murphy, who is transformed into a crime-fighting machine after suffering a critical injury in a car bombing. “We’re going to put a man inside a machine,” OMNICORP’s Raymond Sellars (played by Michael Keaton) tells us.

Director Jose Padilha departs from the 1987 original by having Murphy’s transformation happen while he is still alive (in the original, Murphy is murdered).

The technology that transforms Murphy is supposed to give our crime fighter the “illusion of free will,” but it isn’t long before he figures out how to override the system.

“Dead or alive,” he says echoing a line from the 1987 original, “you’re coming with me.”

What do you think of the trailer? Are you excited RoboCop is being remade or is this a giant disaster? Let us know in the comments.

Jose Padilha’s remake of the 1987 sci-fi classic Robocop won’t hit theatres until August 2013, but Sony (perhaps taking a page from Prometheus) is already teasing audiences with a promo spot for the fictional Omnicorp.

In case you really want to geek out, Omni (or OCP) was the name of the company in the original that created Robocop.

Since the movie hasn’t begun filming yet, we don’t get to see any actual film footage. But viewers are treated to a glimpse of what Robocop’s suit might look like. We also get to see Robocop’s nemesis from the first movie – the ED-209.

The clip closes with Omni touting their upcoming mechanical revolution “where human resources meets robotic engineering.”

Robocop stars Joel Kinnaman (The Killing) in the title role and also features Gary Oldman and Samuel L. Jackson. Check out the ad and let us know your comments below.
