‘Iron Man 3′: Watch Tony Stark attempt a mid-air rescue

- April 30th, 2013

Iron-Man-3-Super-Bowl-Poster

Iron Man 3 is literally just days away, and of course it’s way too early to be declaring any one sequence the best of the movie, but the newest clip from the film just became my odds on favourite.

Running at just over a minute, the scene is an extension of the one we’ve seen in various trailers: Air Force One has been attacked and helpless passengers plummet to the ground. Thirteen people are in the air and, as Jarvis informs him, Tony can only carry four.

I’m a sucker for jump scenes in movies and this Iron Man clip reminds me of my fave part from Transformers: Dark of the Moon (just to be clear, that’s not an endorsement of the Michael Bay film – other than this one sequence, I pretty much hated it).

Iron Man 3 takes place after the events of The Avengers, with Tony Stark battling The Mandarin (Sir Ben Kingsley). It’s directed by Lethal Weapon-scribe Shane Black, so expect plenty of eye-popping stunts and lotsa humour.

Robert Redford eyes ‘Captain America: Winter Soldier’

- March 22nd, 2013

In what might be the strangest casting news of the week, acting legend Robert Redford is in talks to join the cast of Marvel’s upcoming Captain America: Winter Soldier.

The news comes via The Hollywood Reporter, with sources saying Redford will play a veteran member of the government agency S.H.I.E.L.D. led by Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson).

Winter Soldier, will adapt a storyline from the comic book in which Captain America’s friend Bucky (Sebastian Stan) is reprogrammed to be a Soviet assassin.

Chris Evans will once again star as the Star-Spangled Avenger, with Anthony Mackie set to play Cap’s sidekick, The Falcon, and Frank Grillo portraying the villainous Crossbones, a New York gangster who works for the Red Skull criminal organization.

Joe and Anthony Russo (Community) will be behind the camera, which is part of Marvel’s Phase Two film series.

In an interview with SFX Magazine earlier this year, Marvel studio boss Kevin Feige said that both Captain America 2 and this summer’s Iron Man 3 will be completely different from their predecessors.

“What’s exciting to me about Cap – sort of about ‘Iron Man 3′ too if you look at it – is it’s tonally almost like a different genre,” said Feige. “Shane Black’s described ‘Iron Man 3′ as a Tom Clancy sort of political thriller, which I like a lot. We hired our directors on Cap because they loved our explanation that we really want to make a ’70s political thriller masquerading as a big superhero movie.”

Thor 2 and next year’s Guardians of the Galaxy will be more “cosmic” in scope.

Captain America: Winter Solider will be released April 4, 2014.

In the meantime, if you haven’t seen it, check out the latest poster for Iron Man 3, and the most recent trailer.

Robert Downey Jr. drops hints about ‘Iron Man 3′ cameos

With The Avengers the biggest movie in the Marvel universe (so far), a lot of people are curious how the various characters will interact as they continue on with their own solo films.

And while we’ll know for sure when the first post-Avengers flick – Iron Man 3 – hits screens this May, Robert Downey Jr. has dropped clues that we’ll see some familiar Marvel faces in the third instalment of his franchise during an interview with Entertainment Weekly.

“We can’t help it,” he says. “Everywhere you look now in every Marvel movie there are opportunities where certain new pals of his could be useful. So they’re in the atmosphere, so to speak, but I wouldn’t expect to see them on the ground in this one.”

Note the words, “on the ground.” When it comes to superheroes, there are more than a few that can fly.

Downey Jr. also revealed that director Shane Black (Kiss Kiss Bang Bang) who is taking over the series from Jon Favreau, has put together action sequences not seen in either of the first two films or The Avengers.

“We’re taking everything from his first gauntlet test in the first movie up through the most extreme stuff we thought up for Iron Man 2 and The Avengers and pulling on all of it and making this one big, extended challenge of physics,” he tells the magazine.

Iron Man 3 is based on Warren Ellis’ ‘Extremis‘ comic book storyline that pits Tony Stark against the villainous Mandarin (Sir Ben Kingsley).

Check out the trailer below and let us know which Marvel character you’d like to see have a cameo in Downey Jr.’s latest. Are you hankering for Captain America, Hulk, Thor, Black Widow, Hawkeye, Spider-Man or someone different?

So after two films where witty banter ruled, it seems Iron Man is getting a Dark Knight makeover. At least that’s how it looks from the newly-released trailer for Iron Man 3.

Backed by a haunting musical score, the new ad opens with a beaten Tony Stark laying bruised and battered in the snow. “I’ve got a lot of apologies to make,” Stark says in a voice-over as he removes his Iron Man mask.

“Nothing’s been the same since New York,” he continues, alluding to the mayhem that occurred in this summer’s Avengers. Remember that doozy? When Thor’s brother Loki came to Earth and flattened New York?

A voice-over continues over clips of familiar faces from the franchise – his gal Pepper Potts (Gwyneth Paltrow) and friend Rhodey (Don Cheadle) – before stopping on Aldrich Killian (Guy Pearce), who, in the comic story arc Extremis, unleashes a super-soldier virus alongside the Mandarin (Ben Kingsley).

“Some people call me a terrorist,” the Mandarin chillingly says. “I consider myself a teacher. Lesson No. 1: Heroes; there is no such thing.”

Then we see how Tony Stark’s world will totally come undone in the new film. His suits are destroyed and his palatial oceanfront retreat is barbecued. By the end, Stark is left dragging his mangled Iron Man suit through the snow.

All that’s missing is Commissioner James Gordon’s weary “rise” line from the Dark Knight Rises trailer earlier this year.

So yes, the film looks darker than its predecessors. And I like it.

Iron Man 3 is being helmed by Lethal Weapon scribe Shane Black (who also directed Downey Jr. in Kiss Kiss Bang Bang) and is due out in North America May 3, 2013.

First official photo from ‘Iron Man 3′ set

Marvel has tweeted a photo from the set of Iron Man 3, which hits theatres May 3, 2013.

Not a lot is known about the third instalment, but it is rumoured the film (directed by Lethal Weapon scribe Shane Black) will be based on the Warren Ellis Extremis comic series, which dealt with humans becoming super-strong thanks to nanotechnology. Guy Pearce and Ben Kingsley are playing the villains.

The movie started filming in North Carolina last week and will also shoot in China and Florida.

With Robert Downey Jr.’s Iron Man currently sharing the screen with other Marvel heroes, my big question is: Which of The Avengers will be making a cameo in Iron Man 3?

Here’s hoping it’s Hulk.

In the meantime, Iron Man has a new Twitter account you can add to your list of follows.
