Strange, when I saw Taken four years ago, I would have never pegged Liam Neeson as a burgeoning, kick-ass action star (this is the guy who played Schindler, remember). But following his role as a retired CIA agent who kills pretty much everything after his daughter is kidnapped in Paris, I wasn’t the only one saying: ‘Damn, Liam’s got skills.’
Even though I loved Taken, and enjoyed Neeson in a flawed adaptation of The A-Team, I wasn’t exactly clamouring for a sequel to the Luc Besson-penned action flick. Neeson killed the baddies and got his kid back. Case closed.
Well, it looks like the premise of Taken 2 has the family members of those guys Neeson killed looking for revenge. So with the action switching to Istabul, Neeson’s Bryan Mills will be back ‘doing what he does best,’ which is killing a whole lot of evildoers.
And with a bit more cash to throw around (the budget for Taken 2 is in the $80 million range), we can expect a far more explosive body count.
Taken 2 hits theatres October 5. Check out the trailer below and let us know what you think.
