New ‘Iron Man 3′ clip shows Tony Stark taunting Mandarin

- April 8th, 2013

We’re just under a month away from the release of Iron Man 3 and the fine folks over at Marvel have just released a brand spanking new clip of Tony Stark threatening The Mandarin.

Stark is talking to reporters and he invites his new foe to fight him at his house. “I’ll leave the door unlocked,” he quips.

According to a survey of 4,000 moviegoers by U.S. online ticket retailer Fandango, Iron Man 3 is the movie film fans are most looking forward to this summer.

The third instalment of the franchise pits Robert Downey’s Iron Man against the villainous Mandarin (Sir Ben Kingsley), with a storyline coming from Warren Ellis’ ‘Extremis’ comic.

The new adventure is the first film in Marvel’s Phase 2.

In addition to this new Iron Man clip, Marvel also revealed a new image from Captain America: The Winter Soldier.

The sequel, which is being directed by Anthony and Joe Russo (Community), starts filming today in Los Angeles and will also shoot in Cleveland and Washington D.C.

And an official release seems to indicate that Nick Fury (Sam Jackson) and Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson) will play significant parts in the sequel:

“‘Captain America: The Winter Soldier’ will pick up where Marvel’s ‘The Avengers’ left off, as Steve Rogers struggles to embrace his role in the modern world and teams up with Natasha Romanoff, aka Black Widow, to battle a powerful yet shadowy enemy in present-day Washington, D.C.”

In an interview with SFX Magazine earlier this year, Marvel studio boss Kevin Feige said that both Captain America 2 and Iron Man 3 will be completely different from their predecessors.

“What’s exciting to me about Cap – sort of about ‘Iron Man 3′ too if you look at it – is it’s tonally almost like a different genre,” said Feige. “Shane Black’s described ‘Iron Man 3′ as a Tom Clancy sort of political thriller, which I like a lot. We hired our directors on Cap because they loved our explanation that we really want to make a ’70s political thriller masquerading as a big superhero movie.”

Other people appearing in Captain America 2 include Robert Redford (whose role has been revealed as Agent Alexander Pierce, a senior leader within S.H.I.E.L.D.), Anthony Mackie (The Falcon), Georges St-Pierre (as French foot-fighter, Batroc the Leaper) and Frank Grillo, who will play the villainous Crossbones, a New York gangster who works for the Red Skull criminal organization.

Captain America: The Winter Soldier will be the third film in Marvel’s Phase 2 series, following Iron Man 3 and November’s Thor: The Dark World.

A new ‘Iron Man 3’ trailer has been unveiled.

That’s right – with the movie’s premiere date less than two months away – the guys at Marvel have given us one more teaser before the blockbuster hits the screens.

This time, we see a more insecure and contemplative Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) as he evaluates his roles as a boyfriend, business tycoon, and superhero.

The film stars Gwyneth Paltrow, Don Cheadle, Guy Pearce, Rebecca Hall and Ben Kingsley as Iron Man’s archenemy The Mandarin.

‘Iron Man 3’ opens in theatres May 3.

Have a look at the trailer and let us know what you think.

Robin the Boy Wonder to be killed? Plus, another new poster for ‘Iron Man 3′

WARNING: CONTAINS SPOILERS

Two big pieces of news for comic book fans today.

It appears DC plans to kill Batman’s sidekick, Robin the Boy Wonder, in an upcoming issue of Batman Incorporated.

The news was reported exclusively on the NY Post.

In this incarnation of the comic, which is written by Grant Morrison (The Invisibles), Batman’s 10-year-old son Damian Wayne portrays wisecracking Robin.

In the upcoming book (out Wednesday, Feb. 27), he saves the world. “He does his job as Robin,” Morrison tells the Post. “He dies an absolute hero.”

This isn’t the first time DC has killed Batman’s sidekick. In 1988, Jason Todd was offed in Jim Starlin’s Batman: A Death in the Family.

He was resurrected as the Red Hood, so perhaps Damian Wayne, who was trained by the League of Assassins, will return as well.

If you’re more of a Marvel fan, you’ll be pretty stoked with today’s tweet.

After a slew of Iron Man 3 posters featuring the big guy, War Machine, Aldrich Killian and The Mandarin, the company released a poster of a sad looking Pepper Potts.

Played by Gwyneth Paltrow, the character has been a comic foil for Robert Downey Jr’s Tony Stark in the previous two instalments. But this latest image shows her despondent as she holds a broken Iron Man helmet.

So far, I’m really loving these character posters.

IRONMAN-3

New ‘Superman/Batman’ comic, plus new ‘Iron Man 3′ poster

- February 22nd, 2013

This has been a good week for comic book fans. First, there was Bryan Singer tweeting images of Professor Xavier’s wheelchairs in his upcoming Days of Future Past. Then we got another glimpse of Hugh Jackman as The Wolverine.

Now we’re getting news of a Batman/Superman team-up comic book. The series starts this June and features the characters at the beginning of their crime-fighting careers.

“We’ve been given the incredible opportunity to show these two icons meeting for the first time at this very early and raw stage in their careers,” writer Greg Pak told USA Today. “Neither one of them has ever heard of the other guy.”

The two characters have been a part of the DC universe since the 1930s.

Jae Lee (Ozymandias, The Dark Tower) will illustrate the book. You can see some of the art below.

Not to be outdone by DC’s news, Marvel tweeted a new poster for Iron Man 3 that shines the spotlight on Tony Stark’s nemesis – The Mandarin, played by Sir Ben Kingsley.

Robert Downey Jr. has said the villain will “steal the movie.” And since I was less than impressed with previous antagonists Jeff Bridges and Sam Rockwell, I’ll buy that for a dollar.
