X-Men fans received another tidbit of news over the weekend that should further fan the flames of anticipation for next year’s Days of Future Past. Over the weekend, director Bryan Singer tweeted the return of Anna Paquin, Shawn Ashmore (who played Rogue and Iceman in X-Men, X2, and X-Men: The Last Stand), and Ellen Page (who was Kitty Pryde in X-Men: The Last Stand).

The trio join mainstays from the original trilogy of films Ian McKellen (Magneto), Patrick Stewart (Professor Xavier) and Hugh Jackman (Wolverine), who will appear alongside cast members from X-Men: First Class – James McAvoy (the young Professor Xavier), Micheal Fassbender (the young Magneto), Jennifer Lawrence (the young Mystique), and Nicholas Hoult (the young Beast).

That leaves Halle Berry (Storm) and Famke Janssen (Jean Grey) – who appeared in the first three films – still waiting by the phone.

The plot for Days of Future Past is adapted from a 1981 storyline from the comic series that involves time travel. In case you’re a newb, First Class is a prequel X-Men film that takes place in the 1960s.

Singer directed the first two X-Men films before turning the franchise over to Brett Ratner. Singer went on to make Superman Returns (we all know how that worked out) and Valkyrie. His next film, Jack the Giant Slayer, opens March 1.

X-Men: Days of Future Past is currently in pre-production and opens July 17, 2014.

What do you think of having stars from both series appearing in the same film? Will Days of Future Past suffer from having too big a cast? Let us know in the comments.
