Socks with sandals? Ed The Sock’s I Hate Hollywood debuts

We should have smelled this coming years ago. Ed The Sock is back.

If you know who Ed The Sock is, undoubtedly you’ll be pleased by this news. If you don’t know who Ed The Sock is, well, how the heck does one explain?

First things first: Ed The Sock’s I Hate Hollywood officially debuts Monday, Sept. 17 on CHCH television. That’s Ed, pictured above. Looks like he has taken pretty good care of himself through the years. You know, staying out of the sun, keeping “in-drawers.” (sorry.)

Through various TV programs in the 1990s, Ed The Sock – an actual sock puppet, obviously – was on the cutting edge of showbiz snark. Honestly, today I can see Ed’s influence in everything from Chelsea Lately, to Tosh.0, to The Daily Show, even to no-holds-barred animated series such as South Park and Family Guy. The internet basically launched a gazillion little Eds.

In his new series, Ed turns his comedic venom toward Hollywood. Not many targets there, though. (That was sarcasm, in case you missed it.)

Ed The Sock stood out back in the 1990s because he was so different. Now, in the TV landscape of 2012, we’ll have to see if Ed’s shoe still fits.

Ed actually tried a comeback just a couple of years ago. He had a show on CHCH just after they went back to the original call letters after the ill-fated E! rebranding. It was basically a cheap “MST3K” knockoff called “This Movie Sucks”, and it aired latenight on Saturdays. (And I definitely get the feeling that I was the only one watching it every week.) It wasn’t completely horrible, but it wasn’t exactly high art, either.

I’m still gonna check out his new show, though. I doubt it’ll be the same guilty pleasure it was back in the CityTV days, but it should still be good for a guilty laugh or two.

Ed the Sock’s “This Movie Sucks”, was super-hilarious!
I wish that it would come back for more seasons…
I REALLY, REALLY MISS IT. :-(

Why do all the good shows get cancelled?
    I don’t think anybody will ever know – it’s a shame.

I know why the really good shows get cancelled. It’s because they are intelligent, well-written and easy to understand, for the SMART VIEWERS out there. Unfortunately, the smart viewers like you and me, make up only 5% of the humans on earth…. :)
