I didn’t know Premier Greg Selinger was this desperate.
The NDP started mailing out attack ads against Tory leader Hugh McFadyen this week. Which is fine. That’s part of the normal political process.
But have you seen what they’re sending out?
They’re actually trying to get some political mileage out of that moldy, old myth from the mid-1990s that the former Filmon government “fired 1,000 nurses.”
Will they ever give up on that? Are they going to bring back the one about how Filmon was flying frozen toast in from Toronto, too?
The flyer says McFadyen “still thinks firing 1,000 nurses was a good idea.” It’s kind of pathetic, actually. Is that all the NDP has on Hugh? A regurgitation of some factually incorrect myth from 15 years ago when McFadyen was working policy in the basement of the Manitoba legislature?
First of all, nobody “fired 1,000 nurses.” It doesn’t matter how often you repeat a lie, it doesn’t make it true. The Winnipeg Hospital Authority — as it was then called — was shifting nursing positions between hospitals, just like they do now.
Under union rules, you can’t just transfer a nurse from one facility to another, or at least you couldn’t back then. You have to delete the position at one hospital or nursing home and re-posted it at the one you want to transfer nurses to.
So no, nobody fired 1,000 nurses. They may have transferred 1,000 nurses around over time as they reorganized hospitals. But they weren’t dismissals.
I don’t know if this is pure desperation on the part of campaign organizers or whether it’s just incompetence. Does anybody outside of core NDP supporters even care about this anymore? I mean, it was exposed as a lie over 10 years ago. How do they expect to get anything out of it today?
There are a lot of things the NDP could criticize Hugh McFadyen and the Tories for, including the fact that they’ve been virtually invisible over the past two years. The “firing 1,000 nurses” nonsense isn’t one of them.
It has to do with the way the FACKING PC’s trashed the province up until 1999.
Can also be used when you bump your shin” OH FACK”.
The proper way to use it in Canada is”FACKING EH”
It can also be used if a politician keeps a promise” IN- FACKING -CREDIBLE”
That was a good one – “I will (Doer) end hallway medicine within 6 months”.
Reminds me of Chretien in 1993 – “I will get rid of the much-hated GST”
Both of them should have been hauled from their offices and charged with fraud.
Maybe the NDP should run in 2011 with the platform of giving all Manitoban’s a million dolars and a free trip to the Moon.
People like Don can’t seem to distinquish between truth and lies.
The nurses were deleted and then transferred to other facilities – as the bargaining agreement demanded.
The NDP should be charged with defamation and slander for continuing with this outrageously false statement.
The damage comes when you have people like Don who believe it and propagate it further. How shameful.
So Don, how are you enjoying being on the NDP payroll? Are you trolling these blogs from Selinger’s office?
The last time I voted NDP was in 1999. like the majority of Manitobans, It was to punish the less than truthful PC’s for saying they had no plans to sell MtS and then doing so,for shutting down rural hospitals forcing patients to be placed in WPG hospital halls, vote rigging, contracting hospital food(quick-freeze then re-thermalize) and for the recession of the 90′s.
I myself am not responsible for keeping the PC’s out of power since 1999, it was the majority of Manitoba voters.
Actually that’s not 1000% true, the PC’s behavior the last time they were in power has kept them from forming a government.
Who will Manitobans chose?
Greg selinger has a PhD from the London School of Economics, a Master’s Degree in Public Administration from Queen’s University and a Bachelor of Social Work Degree from the University of Manitoba.
or
Hugh McFadyen a layer
With all those credentials selinger still can’t balance the budget?
With record federal transfer payments selinger still can’t balance the budget?
With stripping Manitoba Hydro bare selinger still can’t balance the budget?
don is an ndp hack and fiction is his mantra…
Calling me a NDP hack doesn’t change the fact
McFadyen could never measure up to Filmon or Selinger.
Don is an NDP staffer. He is paid to spout off this NDP propaganda.
How does your opinion equal fact? Seems fiction is your strong suit don. Be consistent. No one take’s anything you have to say seriously.
JG is a circus clown, he’s paid to pick up elephant poop.
Certainly an interesting read .McFayden calling the shots after the next election—NEVER HAPPEN. Most people have good memories and have not forgotten the Filmon era. Just ask any health care provider that was forced to take Filmon Fridays off and than double shift to make up the shortfall later. Now thats saving money…
As for McFaydens PC’s— they’d sell off Hydro, afew of their buddies will be major shareholders, Stadium could be paid off in cash from proceeds and the average Manitoban (that didn’t buy any shares) would be left saying “what the fack”
MK, do you remember during the last PC government how they “REPAIRED” the highways?
Just a reminder, they spread a little asphalt only where the tires ran so now you had these two strips of new asphalt strips down each lane.
The funny part is that when the NDP came back into power the PC’s started crying about the cost of road construction to fix their neglect.
It would be interesting to see how a PPC’er operates their own house.
Well if we don’t pay the heat we’ll save money. Maybe even sell the furnace.
No need for windows, you just see through them anyways.
Plan not to sell your phone, then sell it.
Keep the first -aid kit empty, it costs money to stock those things.
Maintenance, no need the next owner can fix it.
And then proudly say how good you are at saving money.
Folks – Don is an NDP staffer and he is paid to sprout off this propoaganda. He trolls webpages and post NDP talking points.
And MK – the NDP has received record federal transfers and doubled the debt with no improvemnt in government services. For example, I found a loved one in a hospital hallway, naked with no doctors or nurses in sight. I knew that day, that Manitoba had been duped by the NDP.
And MK – stadium? What about the Premier’s buddy David Asper getting a sweetheart deal. Talk about hypocrisy!!!
Just a reminder that Don is an NDP staffer paid to troll web pages. Trolling web pages using taxpayer’s dollars. The NDP way.
JG, you really have a nice writing style.
Thanks Don!!! I like you too! Just hate your politics!
If you would learn to control your hatred you will be a happier person.
don is a funny guy. What line item are you don on the ndp election budget? Propaganda and trolling?
grumpy old man, keep asking question and you’ll keep on learning.
I would say trolling. I have very good luck trolling with spinners at the beginning of fishing season to get those big walleye’s.
Don – I love Manitoba! I don’t hate anything! I feel sympathy for you and would like to offer you some spelling and grammar lessons.
JG,this blog is called:
“NDP misfires on attack ads”
What does my grammar have to do with that?
Sounds like troll behavior!
Sure, the NDP managed to eliminate “hallway medicine”…Now we have hospital rooms that are 300 feet long and 8 feet wide…lol At least patients can get Tim Horton’s at their bedsides now.
