Canadian international Piette glorifies Hitler in weird Champions League post

- May 2nd, 2013

Another day, another professional athlete making a poor — scratch that — an extremely poor decision on social media.

And this athlete just so happens to be Canadian.

Samuel Piette, a midfielder with the Canadian men’s national soccer team, let followers know Thursday how happy he is to see a pair of German clubs in this month’s UEFA Champions League final.

But the way he went about showing it will without a doubt stir up controversy among those who follow the 18-year-old from Repentigny, Quebec.

With Bayern Munich and Dortmund set to square off for soccer’s most coveted club prize, Piette, who plays for German first division side Fortuna Dusseldorf, posted a photo to Instagram glorifying Adolf Hitler.

Worse, he wrote underneath the post, “Hitler and his army are back”.

As of Thursday night, the post was already circulating throughout the North American soccer community, which will likely see supporters come down hard on a kid who, although intelligent on the soccer field, apparently lacks something upstairs.

Even more scary, the posting appears to have more than two dozen “likes,” which takes things in an entirely different direction.

Simply put, this is beyond outrageous — and is an act that shouldn’t go without some kind of reprimand.

Piette recently made is first senior team appearance for Canada last June when he played in a goalless draw against the U.S. in Toronto.

UPDATE:
He apologized …

I think it was something done to try to look for likes and done in an obvious sarcastic tone. He might have even done it to see if he could get away with doing it. This type of action has a child like mentality to it. Kind of like giving your teacher the middle finger for pointing out that you are wrong on something. Its possible he just hates both teams since he plays for Dusseldorf and both teams in the finals are German rivals.

Done in poor taste and he might not understand how badly his options might decline in the future but hopefully he apologizes sooner rather than later. Hopefully, he doesnt dwell on it.
