CUP PLAYER RATINGS — TFC VS. MONTREAL

- May 3rd, 2012

Sun Media’s soccer guys — Wolstat and Larson — rate the Reds …

For Sun Media’s ratings, each player is given a 5 rating at the start of every match. Depending on his performance, each player’s rating will either approach the top score (10) or bottom score (1).

LARSON SAYS …

KOCIC – 7 - Made multiple routine — but big — stops … was fairly commanding in the box … no complaints
HENRY – 4 - Shutout hides the fact he was a nightmare on the ball … connected just 13 passes … only excuse is he’s out of position
CANN – 4 - A few scary moments … had a miss-clearance that rolled through the middle of the area … doesn’t instill confidence
ACEVAL – 5 - Was good in the air … negated the momentary lapses he’s become known for … decent
MORGAN – 4 - Gets a four just because of the clean sheet … same as Henry — his distribution is woeful … Connected 11 of 30 passes.
FRINGS – 5 - Looked like he was conserving for the weekend … blended into the tie … his lack of involvement had a lot to do with the club’s mentality to sit back
DUNFIELD – 5 - Same as Frings …
DE GUZMAN – 5 - Mucked it up in the middle … had a few of his usual poor giveaway in the middle third … put in work
LAMBE – 7 - Headed ball off the line … substantially more confident than the player we watched in March … a good few weeks
JOHNSON – 5 - Put in the work, but seems to be tiring … questions as to whether he can last for 90 Saturday … Not much to work with as Winter pulled nine men back
AVILA – 5 - Same as Johnson … not much to do with TFC only pushing 3-4 guys forward at any given time

WOLSTAT SAYS …

Kocic 8 – No mistakes, one fantastic save, one very good one.
Cann 6 – Can play better, but wasn’t bad.
Aceval 6 – Solid effort, made some key defensive plays.
Henry 8 – Best game as a pro defensively no question. Offence still needs work.
Morgan 5 – Not much of a factor, not looking as dangerous, though that was part of plan on Wednesday.
De Guzman 6 – Like most of the Reds, didn’t stand out one way or the other. Did make one fantastic pass though that should have resulted in a scoring opportunity.
Frings 6 – Made some crucial plays while tracking back. Doesn’t look right offensively.
Dunfield 5 – Did his job. Not as rugged as usual.
Avila 3 – Invisible after two fine performances.
Lambe 6 – Great play to head sure goal off of line. Probably most dangerous TFC attacker.
Johnson 5 – Could not get untracked, but was getting horrible service.

While Henry distribution is a LOT to be desired, he excelled in his primary duties cleanly tackling and winning a lot of balls. I wish he knew what to do with them though…

  2. Jeff says:

Not sure what game Mr. Wolstat was watching. Henry probably had his WORST game as a professional so far. Aceval was a liability. The only guy out there who played 100% was Reggie Lambe.
