FINAL PLAYER RATINGS – TFC v. SANTOS LAGUNA

- April 4th, 2012

Sun Media’s soccer guys — Wolstat and Larson — rate the Reds …

For Sun Media’s ratings, each player is given a 5 rating at the start of every match. Depending on his performance, each player’s rating will either approach the top score (10) or bottom score (1).

FINAL PLAYER RATINGS – TFC v. SANTOS LAGUNA

Kocic – 5) Stranded on each and every goal … must be having nightmares about Toronto’s central defence
Eckersley – 5) Had no part in four of the five goals … his physical play frustrated the Mexicans … decent
Harden – 4) Not good, not bad … could he have done better on Santos’ second? … no longer boo boy at the back
Aceval – 1) It doesn’t get much worse … terrible on opener and the penalty was almost comical … where’s Iro?
Morgan – 4) Shaky first half, but did okay after break … added nothing to the attack … lazy on fifth goal
Dunfield – 6) No complaints … hard in defence … puzzling why he comes off every game
De Guzman – 3) Very average in the first half … the penalty – and it was a penalty – was shockingly disappointing
Silva – 7) Did very well in possession … helped offence do enough to win the tie … confident
Soolsma – 8.5) Has to be shaking his head after providing so much … lively and brilliant on Plata’s second goal
Johnson – 6) Did an adequate job in place of Koevermans … Did everything he was asked
Plata – 5) Took his two goals well … but if you’re watching, you realize he was poor for a good portion of match

FIRST HALF PLAYER RATINGS – TFC v SANTOS LAGUNA

Kocic – 5 – Couldn’t have stopped either goal … had a poor clearance … no real complaints
Eckersley – 7 – Physical play is frustrating the Mexicans … can’t concede restarts around box
Harden – 4 – Great half, until the 45th minute … how big would having Frings be right now?
Aceval – 2 -  Lazy…weak on an important challenge with Peralta then allows Gomez to get in behind on goal
Morgan – 4 -  Stagnant … can’t turn it over cheaply in attacking third … Santos will continue attacking space behind him
Dunfield – 7 – Has done everything he’s been asked to
De Guzman – 5 – Horrible giveaway almost cost reds early … good tracking likely prevented goal
Silva – 7 – Composed … took ball down off the corner that led to first goal … playing beyond his years
Soolsma – 9 – Lively on the wing … earning countless corners … brilliant on Plata’s second
Johnson – 7 – Active … battle in corner led to corner that led to goal
Plata – 7 – Took both goals well …  but is he trying to do too much in the middle third?

I agree with most of your ratings, particularly Aceval. I don’t think Harden was at fault for the second goal. He left Gomez to run offside but Eckersley didn’t step up and played him on.
