Former first-choice goalkeeper Stefan Frei is “done” with TFC, according to a source with knowledge of the situation.
The Toronto Sun is trying to track down what “done” means, but it comes as no surprise after watching the former first round draft pick train away from the team over the last month due to “injury”.
We’re told the shot-stopper will exit TFC by, or at some point, in July.
The Reds drafted the 27-year-old Frei 13th overall in the 2009 MLS SuperDraft, and he served as first-choice netminder until fracturing his leg at the start of last season.
A comeback bid was then cut short this pre-season when he suffered a broken nose against the Columbus Crew, allowing Joe Bendik to step in and win the starting job.
