SEATTLE – Toronto FC fans will have to wait at least one more week to see one of TFC’s new prized possessions.

Gilberto, the club’s new multi-million dollar striker, didn’t travel to Seattle with the Reds late Wednesday night.

The Brazilian suffered a hip flexor injury during pre-season which will keep him out of Saturday’s season opener at CenturyLink Field.

The 24-year-old Gilberto remains one of the league’s biggest mysteries, having only briefly appeared in one pre-season game for Toronto.

Earlier this week, head coach Ryan Nelsen told the Toronto Sun Gilberto remained two weeks from regaining match fitness.

He’ll likely be hoping his new striker will return in time for next Saturday’s home opener against D.C. United.
