It is the Princess Royal’s birthday – she is 62.

Here’s some fun facts about Princess Anne:

  • She was born at Clarence House, London, in 1950 to then Princess Elizabeth.
  • She was baptised Anne Elizabeth Alice Louise at Buckingham Palace on Oct. 21, 1950.
  • In 1974, there was an unsuccessful abduction attempt – she was unhurt, but her personal protection officer was shot and wounded.
  • Her first marriage to Cpt. Mark Phillips lasted from Nov. 14, 1973 to April 1992. They had two children together — Peter and Zara.
  • Princess Ann married her second husband, Vice Admiral Timothy Laurence, on Dec. 12, 1992.
  • She was given the title of Princess Royal in June 1987.
  • She has been president of the Save the Children Fund since 1970.
  • She is associated with more than 200 charities.
  • She rode in the 1976 Montreal Olympics as a member of the British Three-Day event team. She did not medal (although her daughter, Zara, just earned a silver medal in the team event earlier this month – and she got to give her daughter the medal).
