Clearly, Catherine, the Duchess of Cambridge, has impressed her in-laws.

The Telegraph reports Kate is set to attend yet another event solo – she’ll be going to an Olympics party next week without Prince William by her side (he has to work).

Last week, Kate went to Newcastle on her own while her husband attended a funeral for a former nanny.

These solo engagements are just what the PR people ordered because it’s showing Kate in a different light (and perhaps quiets critics who say she doesn’t do anything to earn her keep) and has the media talking about her role with the royal family – and not those topless photos (although there is usually a line about the photos somewhere in the stories – the photos just aren’t the focus anymore).

But Kate going out on her own also shows that the royal family trusts her not to, well, mess this up. She doesn’t need her husband there to hold her hand at events, or even Prince Charles or Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall. After a year-and-a-half of marriage, Kate can shine on her own and not completely embarrass the royals.
