It’s not very often we get to see the Queen decked out in full robes, but she was Friday for the Service for the Order of the Bath at Westminster Abbey.

The service is held every four years and attended by the Prince of Wales, while the Queen attends every second service. The last time she was at the service was 2006.

Members of the army, as well as some civilians, are awarded the Order of Bath in the ceremony.

The Queen did not take part in all the usual pomp and circumstance – the 88-year-old did not take some steps for safety reasons, and she curbed some of her duties.

Here are a few more photos of the day, which is steeped in tradition.

Kate, Thank you for putting out this article. We don’t often see proper reports about the Queen performing her duties and it’s nice to see.
