The new Prince Charles

I love the new Prince Charles.

I believe it’s his love for Camilla that has softened him (and maybe becoming a grandfather), but he is not the man he was a decade ago and thank goodness for that.

He always seemed the epitome of “stiff upper lip-ness” but he has relaxed a lot in the past few years. The last time he was in Canada, he tried his hand at DJing. In the U.K., he gave weather forecasting a go.

It’s the small things that have changed. Sure, he still makes the goofy jokes, like on Tuesday when he said the Symons Medal he was awarded could break a few toes after it was dropped just before it was given to him.

But as he discussed going to Cornwall, P.E.I., later in the day, he referred to Camilla as his “darling wife.”

As I said, it is small – but I feel like there was a time the woman at his side would have been referred to simply as “my wife.” The added “darling” just makes him that much more relatable, I think.

His mother, the Queen, certainly got the message that people want to see the more human side of royalty and she took it to heart. Prince Charles, it seems, appears to also be following those same tips.

And I think Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, is the reason. She is one of the hardest working royals and she doesn’t just stand and smile for photo ops – she is photographed eating ice cream, drinking a beer, getting her hands dirty – I’ve said it before, but she’s one of the most interesting royals to watch because she does things.

I only hope Charles continues to follow his wife’s lead.

I like the new Charles too. Charles and Camilla should gotten married sooner, before he married Diana. Charles is a lot happier and I am glad his finally married the love of his life. Camilla bring out the best parts in Charles his happiness, laughter and enjoying life. All the best to Charles and Camilla and for visiting Canada on his Great, Great, Great Grandmother birthday.
