Mister Beer misses

- March 27th, 2012

A little while back, I happened upon Mister Beer Bottle Brew while at my local grocery store.

And I jumped at the chance to try it out.

After following the directions on the label, and leaving the brew to ferment for two weeks, I was eager to get a taste of the Red Lager.

The results? The flavour wasn’t as bold as I had hoped, and it fell a little flat.

I don’t want to judge a whole product line on one taste, and I may well try again at some point, but it wasn’t the best first impression.

Who knows. Maybe I did something wrong — but there’s not much to do at all. That’s the whole point. Drop in the pill, let it do its thing, chill and enjoy.

If any of you out there have had the chance to try and had a different result, feel free to contact me: dave.breakenridge@sunmedia.ca

I’ll publish any of your experience in this space.

I have been drinking this beer now for just about a year. Love it. I find that if you leave it for about 30 days from time of the start of the brewing time until consumption. It is much better. I usually have 6 of the brews on the go at all times and friends seem to love them.

I tried them all and I really enjoyed them. Although different in taste, I find them to be better than most macro beers, more fresh and flavorful. Someone who is used to commercial lagers might find them a bit strange, but to me they are great! Try them and see.
My faves are Cerveza and Blonde ale for hot summer days, and Brown ale for its rich flavor.

    Thanks for the comments!

Glad to know there is room for improvement.

I tend to like a wide variety of beer and lean toward smaller breweries and interesting flavours.

But I imagine I’ll have to give Mister Beer another try.

I’m a recent convert to Mr. Beer and I’ve gotta say, you must have done something wrong, because Mr. Beer is freaking awesome. I like the red even though I am not a fan of the reds in general. My favourites are Cerveza and blonde. I have to agree though it does taste better if you leave it longer – very hard to do hee hee. The first time I tried Cerveza I didn’t like it, but the next time I let it sit longer before refrigerating and I loved it.

I hope you give Mr Beer another try.

I love MB it is cheap and tasty, my favorite is the Brown. I too find it you let it “age” some what it is more mellow.

Maybe the Red Lager is not your taste? Try another one.
When I decided to try MB Bottlebrew I bought one of each product and found I really like the Cerveza.

Brewed it, waited for the two weeks or so, bottled it, let it sit for a week, not that overly impressed. Waited three more weeks, difference like night and day! Not bad at all for a home brew. Just have to be patient, thats all.

I have been making this beer for more than a year now. I have tried them all and my favorite is the Red Lager followed closely by the Pilsner. I found that they do have to brew longer than the stated time at normal room temperatures. I had one bottle that went flat for some reason. Maybe there was something wrong with the cap so it let most of the gas out.
