Our man Jordan Cieciwa weighs in after the Nevada State Athletic Commission announced Nick Diaz tested positive for marijuana. Here are his thoughts
Well it was hotly debated, did Condit win, did he get the biggest break of his career, does it matter? Not any more. Las Vegas, Nevada– Dana White, President of the Ultimate Fighting Championship© organization, has issued the following statement on the Nevada State Athletic Commission’s report on UFC 143 interim welterweight championship contender Nick Diaz.
“I am beyond disappointed that he tested positive for marijuana,” said White. “It is now in the hands of the Nevada State Athletic Commission.”
Well thanks Dad!
So at this point in time, it really doesn’t matter who won the fight. It’s a shame because I was looking forward to an even angry Diaz stepping into the cage with a more prepared Condit. That fight would have been one for the record books. Greg Jackson, and that whole team, put on some of the best preparation camps out there. Imagine them with footage on how Diaz fights Condit. Being more prepared on using his reach, being ready for Diaz’s aggressive Octagon Control. It would have been one of those fights that brought in huge sponsors and sold tons of pay per views. But alas, that fight went “Up in Smoke”.
That makes the next question the million dollar question. With GSP on the mend, already back in the gymnastic room, we all know he will have that fight. But what about 4-6 months from now. Who gets a shot?
Well here goes my opinion on the subject.
It all revolves around Wednesday Feburary 15th in Omaha, Nebraska. Diego Sanchez vs Jake Ellenberger. Jake Ellenberger is a wrecking machine, and is on a solid 5 fight win streak, including a 52second knockout on Jake Sheilds. Diego is super talented, but has been off for very close to one full year. You have a young go getter, with power, speed, and aggression. I think he will really turn heads with a win next week. That win puts him in contention and 3 months from next Wednesday, I think we see Condit vs Ellenberger.
Lets not forget about Johnny Hendricks. You may have forgotten him, he was only in the Octagon about 12 seconds last time he fought. But I guess that’s what made him unforgettable. The rumor mill got going when Koscheck won his last fight. These two look like they will meet up in the Octagon. I don’t think Koscheck has what it takes to stop Hendricks.
So before the return of the Champ, GSP. I expect Condit will have to defend his Interim Title twice. Don’t be surprised to see Ellenberger get the next shot, followed by Johny Hendricks. That’s right Mr.Hendricks, in 9months you may be fighting for the Interim belt… Don’t get used to it being around your waste, that belt is Canadian Property. GSP is coming for it.
