Line drive blows through glove of Royals’ Hosmer

- July 9th, 2014

Call it an equipment malfunction, call it bad positioning, call it what you will, but hitting a line drive right through another player’s glove is almost unheard of.

That’s what happened on Tuesday night as the Tampa Bay Rays were taking on the Kansas City Royals.

Rays outfielder Kevin Kiermaier was up to bat and hit a line drive bomb directly at Royals first baseman Eric Hosmer.

Watch what happens:

Luckily, Omar Infante was able to scoop the ball up and throw Kiermaier out at first.

But lets wrap our minds around the physics of what happens here.

This ball was hit so hard, with so much force, that a vital piece of equipment used to play the sport was not able to contain the ball.

Recap: Tampa won the game, 4-3, and Hosmer will undoubtedly need some repairs on his mitt.
