Rays outfielder Wil Myers misses fly ball by a mile

Tampa Bay Rays rookie outfielder Wil Myers played the position like it was his first day on the job.

During Game 1 of the the American League Division Series between the Rays and Red Sox Friday, Myers was tracking down a fly ball in right field, launched by Boston DH David Ortiz. Putting his hand up to warn off his teammate as he approached the warning track, Myers looked to give up on the play while turning away and missed the catch.

It wasn’t even close.

Looking at the replay, Myers seems to have lost it in the sky while the ball can be seen dropping in front of the wall several feet away for a ground rule double. Or someone called him off.

Either way, the play helped the Red Sox score five runs in the bottom of the fourth inning, erasing an early 2-0 deficit.
