ESPN anchor sorry for ‘Lin is cooking with hot peanut oil’ joke

- November 15th, 2013

Another ESPN anchor has been forced to apologize after a racial slip while talking about Houston Rockets forward Jeremy Lin, who is of Asian descent.

SportsCenter anchor Jorge Andrés, in describing one of his off-the-bench baskets against the New York Knicks, said Lin was “cooking with hot peanut oil” during a telecast last night.

He then issued an on-the-air apology at the end of the show, saying that he used a “poor choice of words.”

It’s the second time in two years ESPN has been in hot water over Lin remarks. Last year, an editor posted the headline “Chink In the Armor” on the website, while another anchor, Max Bretos used the same comment live on air. Bretos was suspended 30 days, while the editor was fired.

Political correctness has gone to the point when any word or group of words offends someone it seems now. If you check the dictionary for the word chink for instance it say A narrow opening, such as a crack or fissure.
    tr.v. chinked, chink·ing, chinks
    1. To make narrow openings in.
    2. To fill narrow openings in.
I mean come on now I sure there was no slur intended there

ESPN…stop being so politically correct. You’re a sports station, not an etiquette station. Be MEN, own it!! The comment was benign.

    Absurdly inappropriate.
