Wes Welker really did not want to be on TSN’s Off the Record with Michael Landsberg on Thursday.

That became evident when the Denver Broncos wide receiver mentioned to Landsberg that he only has two minutes left to talk to him. At the start of the interview.

Here’s how the awkward conversation went down, transcript included:

Landsberg: You can always tell if a guy wants to do the show by the hello. Let’s listen, hey Wes Welker.

Welker: How we doing?

Landsberg: Good, how about you?

Welker: I’m doing alright, I got two minutes left. So…

Landsberg: So we’re getting you just before the buzzer?

Welker: Right before it.

Landsberg: Right before the buzzer, do I smell Old Spice, is that correct?

Welker: Um, ya. I mean it’s probably going right through the microphone. Ya, absolutely, I got it dosed on.

Landsberg: Have you really ever taken a 40 minute shower?

(Here’s the Old Spice commercial with Welker that Landsberg asked about…)

Welker: I’m sure I have.

Landsberg: Is it true Payton Manning pranked you at the Pro Bowl a few years ago?

Welker: Yes he did.

Landsberg: Now have you been able to pay him back?

Welker: Of course.

Landsberg: Of course. What did he do to you?

Welker: Um, you hit me up about it, so I’m sure you know about it.

Landsberg: Okay, well he loosened the bottle top right? Which is kind of old, I thought he’d have something better than that.

Welker: Ya, ya. I mean he’s pretty old school.

Landsberg: You have a ‘puggle’ is that true?

Welker: Yes it is.

Landsberg: Okay what is a ‘puggle’ is that a pug and obviously a…?

Welker: Well, she’s actually kind of a mutt, but we think she’s ‘puggle’. We got her from the humane society. It’s very Colorado of us.

Landsberg: You didn’t name her Giselle did you?

Welker: We did not. (Looks away from camera)

Landsberg: We did not. You’ve got passes from two of the greatest quarterbacks in the history of the game, tell me one thing before you go, the difference between catching from Payton and catching from Brady.

Welker: (Looks over again) Well that looks like all the time we have. Thank you.

Landsberg: I can’t believe we just got buzzered. We got buzzered. This may qualify as a walk-off. This could be the first walk-off since Chael Sonnen.

Speaking of Sonnen…

    Landsberg is a tool……

How is Wes Welker “spacey” during this interview? For most of it Michael Landsberg sounded like an idiot. He reminded me of those South American reporters who show up for Superbowl media days and spend their time asking randomly bizarre questions.

Any time I go to the trouble of watching on the OTR clips on the web (which is not often), Michael Landsberg, without fail, sounds like an idiot. Bet he is happy to get much needed attention on TSN.

What do you mean, “how was he spacey”? He couldn’t focus on what was going on at all. He looked like he was on drugs, trying to count all the pretty butterflies flying around. If a guy doesn’t want to do an interview, fair enough; but then just don’t do it. :/

How has someone so devoid of talent remained on television for as long as Landsberg? I know Ericka Ehm – one of the original Much VJs – was Moses Znaimer’s niece or something. So how did Landsberg ever get on the air? Did he have pictures of Ted Rogers in compromising positions?

    Landsberg is the spacey one….
Guy has a Super Bowl to play and he’s wasting his time with lame interview…
Buh bye I have a game to win….

    Landsberg’s a disgrace to his profession….

Landsberg – Come on – Welker did the right thing – you were acting like a ratings hungry tool.

Landsberg has always been a an arrogant A-hole. I thought Welker was very nice to him.

Agreed. Landsberg is a donkey. What was the point of having Welker on? He should maybe write for a gossip amg if he’s going to ask those kinds of questions.
