The life and death of Canadian boxer Arturo Gatti is heading to the silver screen.

Jerry Ferrara, famous for his role as Turtle in the hit TV show “Entourage”, will play the tragic boxer and two-time world champion who went 40-9 over his 15-year career, reports Variety.

“I’m extremely excited to be able to tell Arturo’s true life story,” Pat Lynch, Gatti’s manager throughout his career, told Variety. “He was more than just my fighter, he was so much a big part of my family.”

Gatti was found dead in a hotel in Brazil while on vacation with his Brazilian wife Amanda Rodrigues and 10 month old son on July 11, 2009. His death was initially ruled a homicide by Brazilian authorities and his widow was charged with first degree murder.

After further studies, the police ruled his death a suicide on July 31 and released Rodrigues from custody. However, members of Gatti’s family have maintained that Gatti did not kill himself after hiring a private coroner who said his death was a homicide.

The most telling info to come out of the investigation into his death include a bloody purse strap, and the fact that Rodrigues didn’t realize he was dead for 10 hours in the hotel room.

Nicknamed “Thunder”, Gatti fought Mickey Ward three times in the early 2000s that marked his history in the sport. The first and third fights were named fight of the year.
